I had two days in between runs and although I have never run before I would say I am reasonable fit have done the Shred a few times this year and do plenty of dog walks.

Didn't get an gait analysed though so maybe that is it. I will stick with it and as you say trust the programme - Thanks Smile

nextphase · 05/10/2013 06:59

Iwish www.mapmyrun.com if you know where you've been.
It seems to have most of the cycle routes I use, with one massive exception, but will let me tell it I'm going off the road, and just join the dots where I go off road, and onto cycle path about 1km later!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 05/10/2013 07:23

Thanks, I used map my run to plot where I'd run. I'm now deflated at how slowly I must be going!

Mairead does that mean that you've finished the programme? Well done if you have, what are you planning on doing from here?

nextphase · 05/10/2013 07:43

I graduated months ago, and still haven't done a 30min 5km.
BUT I can run for a full 35 mins! That is a massive improvement in fitness, and I can see it in other parts of my life. Just wish the waist would follow

watchingout · 05/10/2013 10:06

Mairead - in my book, that means you've graduated - congratulations!Grin

Well done to all starters and progressers ( I KNOW that's not a word.. ) much better than being on that couch eh?Wink

wizzler · 05/10/2013 12:31

FunnyFace I always find the second run of each week by far the hardest.
Dawn.. thanks for the inspiration.. 20 mins seems such a long time.. I get loads of confidence from this thread with people who can run for 30 mins..

CiderwithBuda · 05/10/2013 13:16

W6R2 done. Now very scared about 25 mins on Monday! Thought about repeating W5R3 and doing the 20 min but I think I will at least try the 25 mins. I know I can do 20 so I will at least do that. Will aim for the 25 but if I can't do it I will just do what I can and repeat week 6. If I can do it I will be chuffed and progress to week 7. Am trying to trust the programme!

BIWIZ · 05/10/2013 13:31

If you can run for 20 minutes you can run for 25!

originalpiratematerial · 05/10/2013 15:11

Iwish - go to endomondo.com and sign up - you can then use the Endomondo app to record your runs, tell you how fast you're running, how far you've run etc etc etc. I use it all the time.

originalpiratematerial · 05/10/2013 15:14

oh whoops - sorry - just read your post again. I'm not sure whether you can do it via an ipod nano. I have it on my iphone.

CiderwithBuda · 05/10/2013 16:55

Yes BIWIZ! (Why do you have a Z now?)

Just been into town and popped in to Mountain Warehouse. Now proud owner of two new long sleeved running tops - buy one get one half price so I got one in current size and one a size smaller. A hat and gloves for when it gets cold and a light running jacket. Oh and a water bottle!

Can't believe I am almost two-thirds the way through the programme! And loving it.

Buda - what a brilliant haul!

Running is addictive, isn't it.

CiderwithBuda · 05/10/2013 18:31

It is! And it comes with shopping opportunities! What's not to like? Grin

BIWIZ · 05/10/2013 18:57

It is in homage to Maryz

CiderwithBuda · 05/10/2013 19:36

Ah. I see. I think.

watchingout · 05/10/2013 20:22

Yy - what BIWIZ said to Cider Grin

.just got a "Lidl special" running top - really pleased cos it fits. Obvs not able to try it on in the shop, so just a bit of judicious holding up and the ARMS ARE LONG ENOUGH TO FIT THUMBS IN HOLES! Doesn't happen very often as I am > 6ft Confused
Never had a long sleeve running top so guess I need to go out in the cold now..

cinnamongreyhound · 05/10/2013 21:16

Hi All! Been so busy with new term stuff as I'm a governor at school and on preschool committee so been running but not posting!

Hello!

I picked up my running shoes today, (shoes had to be ordered as I have tiny feet) and went for a sort of test run to see what I could do. Quite pleased with myself.

I'm going to do a proper W1D1 run first thing in the morning tomorrow. Hopefully before the DDs are up.

MaireadnotMermaid · 06/10/2013 18:19

I did finish a few weeks ago. Trying to keep motivated so started the 10k programme. Running a charity 5k in a few weeks

originalpiratematerial · 06/10/2013 20:04

Wk5R3 this morning. I made heavy weather of it and now I feel like I'm coming down with a lurgy Hmm.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/10/2013 08:11

Hope your first run went well lucyintheskywithdinos!

Well done on your w5r3 originialpiratematerial!

It can be hard to keep the motivation once you've finished MaireadnotMermaid, I had a bit of a wobble!

My race went really well but I ache today! They could start on time because of lack of police presence so we started 20 mins late which then only gave me 1hr 25 mins to get to the other end before the train left to come back or we'd have ha to wait for another hr and 40mins! I did it in 1hr 22, after expecting to do it in 1hr 30 Grin

Reiltin · 07/10/2013 10:24

I did W3R1 yesterday with the buggy (even though it was a weekend, didn't get to do it aloneHmm) but finished it and did all the bits and didn't even find it too hard. So proud of myself! Saying that I ran for 3mins sounds like nothing but I couldn't have done it 3wks ago. Looking forward to trying to best my pace tomorrow!

lucyintheskywithdinos · 07/10/2013 10:35

First run was lovely...went out before the DDs were up and came back to DP giving them their breakfast. Lovely sunrise in the park and a surprising number of people meditating!

Strange though, I really wasn't out of breath but my legs felt tired!

MirandaWest · 07/10/2013 10:45

Did week 5 run 3 this morning and kept going all the way through :) and I went 3.45km and know I could have gone (a little) faster so feel I am getting back to being able to run again :)

cinnamon am very impressed. And can see the motivation of train times would drive you on to go faster Grin

originalpiratematerial · 07/10/2013 10:56

Ok that's Wk5 done with now - I've done it four times, which seemed to be what was recommended (Guardian podcast). Now on to the 20 minute run which I don't feel ready for at all Confused. Probably won't run tomorrow (I've run today and yesterday) so Wednesday is pencilled in for having a crack at it.

cinnamon congrats on your race time, that sounds very impressive.

Mairead I'm not sure what to do once I've finished C25K - last time around, I gave it a few weeks to get used to running, then started doing 5to10, and did it very slowly - it took me from January to June to finally run 10K Grin. And then when I had done 10K, I really lost motivation and didn't run much at all over the summer, which is why I'm redoing C25K now.
