Cinnamon - def good motivation to ruin faster! Well done.

Original pirate - the guardian programme seems different to the nhs one. The 20 min run is in week 5 of the nhs one.

Well. Trust the programme they said. I did. And I did W6R3. And ran for the 25 mins! And Laura says I am now officially a runner! Grin

Iwearblack · 07/10/2013 19:46

Well done cider do you feel like a runner?
Hope to join you by Friday!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 07/10/2013 21:22

Week 7 run 1 done.

I did it and tried to go faster than at the end of week 6, but am still only going about 3.6km which I'm disappointed with.

I feel like I'm going so fast - I can't go any faster just yet!

CiderwithBuda · 07/10/2013 22:11

Iwearblack I think I do!

Iwish - I am so slow! Not worrying about that just yet though. I keep forgetting to check speed. Will try remember next week. If I go any slower I will be walking though!

Vagndidit · 08/10/2013 09:57

Well..had an unexpected "break" of about 5 days while DS had a nasty flu and DH was inconveniently out of town. Not a single moment to myself since Thursday.
Def lost momentum and felt it while attempting w5R1 again this a.m. Didn't quite finish today but determined to push through w/out stopping on Thurs.

lucyintheskywithdinos · 09/10/2013 08:07

W1D2 done. Felt easier than the last run too. I managed to sprint the last interval!

I'm remembering why I loved cross country at school, it was cold and drizzly this morning. Lovely!

If I stay on target, I'll finish c25k in December. Bit worried about keeping it up through the cold and ice, I have balance problems and am housebound in the ice. DP suggests getting a stand for my bike so I can cycle indoors to keep my fitness up...what would other people do?

CiderwithBuda · 09/10/2013 09:42

W7R1. Didn't realise it would be 25 mins again. But it was and I did it. And it will be 25 mins for the next two runs this week. I was wondering about the step up to 30 mins over 3 weeks. Keep meaning to measure my distance but forgot again.

Vagndidit - well done on getting back to it. You will manage it next time.

Lucy - a bike stand might be a good idea. And when it's not icy you can still run. We have a cross trainer and are thinking of getting a treadmill. DS and I would use it. Might even get DH on it too.

MirandaWest · 09/10/2013 10:58

I need to go out and do week 6 run 1. Have just procrastinated for about 30 min Hmm

Will report back in a while...

MirandaWest · 09/10/2013 11:39

I did it. With a headwind every way I turned I think Grin

Decided to run a little during the cool down and went 5.40 km altogether in just over 35 min. Not exactly looking forward to 25 min of running in run 3 but hopefully run 2 will get me in the mood for it :)

originalpiratematerial · 09/10/2013 14:45

Hello all Smile

Onto Wk 6 of Guardian podcasts this morning, so did 20 minute run and it was fine - I was very relieved. That's the first time I've run for 20 minutes properly - no stopping for drink of water or to blow nose, no walking whatsover - since June and it felt great! I ran 3.21 km, so I wasn't running fast at all, but I am pleased that my stamina is gradually coming back.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 09/10/2013 21:01

Week 7 run 2 done. 3.7 km I think.

I gave it my all - could barely walk straight during the 5 minutes brisk walk at the end, but I'm still not even going 4k Sad

I did have some very annoying underpants on today!!

originalpiratematerial · 10/10/2013 11:18

How many minutes of running is Week 7 in the version you're doing, Iwish?

cinnamongreyhound · 10/10/2013 14:51

Well done everyone!

I've run through two winters now Lucyintheskywithdinos, it's actually fine! It's rarely too bad to run, I tend to stick to roads as they're gritted and the paths aren't great. Running the forest is fine as its uneven so perhaps a field you could do laps round?

25 minutes of nonstop running all week pirate.

I'm doing the NHS choices version and it's killing me!

Will be off out again tomorrow night!

wizzler · 10/10/2013 22:30

Well done to everyone, this thread is really inspiring.

I have just completed W5R2, just the big 20 min run of W5R3 looming at me now. But Laura says I can do it and she has been right every other time so I will have faith.

Thanks to whoever it was who mentioned making sure your arms don't cross your body.. when I am struggling a bit, I make my arms go forward (iyswim!) and it makes a big difference.. really helps my breathing.. so Thanks!

Reiltin · 11/10/2013 09:08

So I'm planning on starting a new thread and only people who are behind me in the programme can join. That way, when people are talking about runs, I will be safe in knowledge that I've already done it. As opposed to all this talk of 20min runs and weeks 5 & 7 freaking me outWinkGrinGrin

RippingYarns · 11/10/2013 09:14

Whatever week you're on, I'll be behind you, Reiltin

Just having another coffee taking on vital fluids and I'm off for week3 day 3

MirandaWest · 11/10/2013 10:02

Was meant to be run 10 min walk 3 min run 10 min but I kept running at the end for a bit to get to 5k. And including the 5 min warm up and 3 min walk it took me 31 min 13 sec to do 5k. Think my legs have realised they can still run when they try :) in total I did 5.51km in 34 min 41 sec

Whenever I manage to get round to doing week 6 run 3 think I'll try and keep going in the running part and see how long it takes to run 5k...

originalpiratematerial · 11/10/2013 10:11

Week 6 Run 2 (Guardian podcasts) - 20 minutes running. I was slower than on Wednesday but as I have a dodgy tummy (again Hmm - darn DH and his chilli con carne) I was just quite pleased with myself for doing it at all. After the 20 minutes I walked for a couple of minutes and then ran on (very slowly) until I'd done 4 km. At that sort of pace it would take me almost 35 minutes to run 5 km but I'm not too bothered about that. My PB last year was only about 31m30 seconds and it took me months to get to that Blush. I'm just not built for speed!

cinnamongreyhound · 11/10/2013 12:39

That's fab MirandaWest!

Sorry it hear your not quite right but still a good run originalpiratematerial

We did intervals at training this week: 3 laps at 10k pace, 2 laps at 5k pace and then 1 lap as fast as you can with a recovery lap between. And then did it again in opposite direction with a jog to and from where we trained. Just in case pennygallops is still loitering or anyone is interested :)

OP posts:
MirandaWest · 11/10/2013 13:07

I'm not sure I could ever do proper training cinnamon - I'm very impressed. I do have quite good self motivation (or do at the moment anyway...)

What do other people think about when they're running? For the first few minutes I am wondering why I am putting myself through this again although after that I start thinking about all sorts of vague problems/issues and try and work them out. Think today's run was better as went a route with a straight road and no side roads to cross so easier to concentrate on the running part :)

cinnamongreyhound · 11/10/2013 13:09

I usually have to be kicked out the door by dh for training, I don't enjoy it but I do want to get faster so need to do something other than just run!

I usually think about all the stuff that's happened in the day or need to do later unless I'm pushing myself then I'm talking to myself about how much further I can go and that I can do it and it's supposed to be hard!

OP posts:
Reiltin · 11/10/2013 16:56

Thanks, ripping! Though you're only a day behind me so I best get running Grin

Reiltin · 11/10/2013 16:59

Miranda, the only time I think about something specific is when I'm getting tired or feel like I need to stop. Then I focus on my breathing, arms or feet.

Dawndonnaagain · 11/10/2013 17:05

Hello!
I'm still going, but I've dropped back a week, trainers arrived and running in them is so completely different from running barefoot! I have aches and pains in my calves and can't seem to do more than twelve minutes at the moment, so I'll just drop a week but keep going, seems more sensible than coping with an injury.
