Well done for getting out there again Miranda, it's harder when you've had a break to get back into it! I'd say, from my stance as a relative newcomer to running but with many runners in my immediate family, probably get new shoes, or at least get to a running shop with the ones you have and see if they can advise. Someone with more knowledge may say different though!

Did w2r1 this morning with no trouble. Still pain in my hip, but it's not unbearable, will perhaps try GP tomorrow.

cinnamongreyhound · 09/12/2013 14:45

Well done MirandaWest, did you enjoy it? New trainers sound like a great idea!

Well done lookout!

Keeping my hand in the running. So so speak.

Hating the dark evenings :(

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 12/12/2013 20:01

Just done a set of the 5+ intervals.

I had no idea the rain was going to be so heavy tonight! It was fun though Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 13/12/2013 19:46

I like running in drizzle but not really heavy rain!

For those who were asking before I would definitely recommend run fat b!tch run, it's a fantastic book! There are some bits I don't agree with but it's very motivational and talks about all of the barriers that stop us running and also pin points things you feel about running but can't really articulate.

It's very quiet here at the moment, how's everyone's running going?

Hi, I hope you don't mind me jumping in here. I've been lurking non and off for the last few weeks.

I've just finished week four and will be starting week five tonight.

Week five scares me to death! It's such a jump, in the third run you're supposed to run for 20 minutes. I'm only just about managing five at the moment!

Has anyone been equally scared of week five and done it? Please reassure me Wink Thanks.

RunRunRuby · 16/12/2013 10:25

I did week 6 run 2 this morning. 2x 10 min runs with 3 min walk in between. Next run is 20 mins solid running Xmas Shock it seems like only yesterday I was finding 1 min 30 of running hard work.

solveproblem my week 5 sounds different to yours as my first twenty minute run is at end of week 6 but so far I've found each jump hasn't been as bad as I thought. I ran for a total of 20 minutes today with just one walk but didn't find it too bad at all.. Beforehand I wasn't sure I'd be able to do it. I find it helpful to have a little mantra that I repeat in my head while I'm running which distracts me from thinking "I can't do this, this is really hard..."

RunRunRuby · 16/12/2013 10:26

Oh it's GoodbyeRubyTuesday by the way, changed my name for Chrostmas but it's rather appropriate for this thread Xmas Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 16/12/2013 13:26

Everyone felt exactly the same I think solveproblem!! And everyone on the thread managed it and felt great afterwards. Take it slow and steady and have faith in yourself and the plan :)

Thanks you ladies!

Runrun, your week 6 does sound like my week 5. What programme are you following? I'm doing the nhs one.

I can't believe I can actually run for a whole five minutes now and I do have faith I the plan. But twenty minutes still feels far far away!

I'm doing the twenty minute one on Thursday night, will let you know how it went.

It's good to know that other people have felt the same way and succeeded. :-)

lookout · 16/12/2013 20:31

Good luck with it solve. I've just started week 3, in the rain this morning. Actually felt I could have gone a bit further than the 3 minutes but don't want to push it. Hip still hurts. Still haven't been to the doc though, am sure it would be a waste of time. In spite of the pain though, I love running Grin

RunRunRuby · 18/12/2013 09:27

solveproblem I'm using an iPhone app called Ease into 5K.

I did week 6 run 3 today which was 20 minutes solid running. It really wasn't as bad as I expected. My app notifies me at 10, 5, 2 and 1 minutes left, so for the first ten minutes I had no idea how far through I was, which I found a little unsettling. Now I'm used to it and know I can do 20 minutes I will be fine. Next run is 20mins, 3 min walk and then another 5 mins running, seems like quite a big jump! Today, for the first time since starting the programme, I felt really hot and my head was pounding a bit by the end.

lookout owch at hip. Have you glad your gait checked at a running shop or anything?

solveproblem · 19/12/2013 20:30

With much thanks to you ladies, I managed the 20 minutes today! I really can't believe I did it.

Last week I was struggling my way through five minutes and today I did TWENTY!

Even when I set out for it today I disintegrated think I was gonna do it, I was telling myself that it would be ok to walk parts of it and that I could stop half way though and go home if I wanted to as it was raining. BUT I DID IT!

If you're reading this and you're the laziest most unfit person I'm Britain I want to tell you that there is hope! If I can do it anyone can!

I'm so so happy!!!

solveproblem · 19/12/2013 20:32

Disintegrated? Didn't.

My phone likes changing my words!

RunRunRuby · 19/12/2013 21:40

solveproblem fantastic! Well done Xmas Grin

lookout · 20/12/2013 00:16

Yay solve well done! I am both lazy and unfit so am slightly worried about the upcoming 20m in a few weeks time, so thanks for the encouragement! Well done again Grin

lookout · 20/12/2013 07:44

Runrunruby, yes I have had my gait checked and actually it's from when I got those new trainers that the hip started! I would say they were the wrong shoes only they sorted my knee problem out directly so I'm not sure... Just completed w3r3 and it was difficult in the icy conditions. Not sure how I'm gonna deal with that over the next few weeksConfused

cinnamongreyhound · 20/12/2013 08:21

Well done solveproblem!! Feels great doesn't it!?!

Might be worth going back and mentioning your hip pain lookout there may be something that will help both your knee and hip :)

OP posts:
lookout · 21/12/2013 00:10

Would a running shop advise on injuries better than a GP? Is that in their remit?? They were excellent about my knee so you could well be right!

cinnamongreyhound · 21/12/2013 11:21

I just thought if it's something that's started since you started wearing their shoes they may have an idea how it's changed your posture to cause the pain. I seem to remember on this thread a while ago someone developed pain after buying new shoes and they took them back and they straight away suggested another pair and exchanged with no extra cost.

OP posts:
solveproblem · 21/12/2013 11:57

My colleague developed problems with his feet after having his gait checked when he bought new trainers. He took them back and the shop assistant was very helpful and helped him find another pair.

HalleLouja · 21/12/2013 21:19

I have started C25k again for the millionth time. I have finished it before so have started week 5 day 1. Went fine though am sore today. I am going again tomorrow.

I do find it helps being on a fred.

cinnamongreyhound · 21/12/2013 21:33

Hi HalleLouja! You just have to keep going long enough to get the bug then you'll never stop again :). I've just read run fat b!tch run and it makes a lot of sense, if you struggle with motivation I thoroughly recommend reading it!

OP posts:
lookout · 22/12/2013 09:43

cinnamon and solve thanks! I doubt they'd exchange though, I've had them since September haha! However even if they can advise on my posture and suggest another pair for when I get over the Christmas deficit that would be awesome!

HalleLouja well done for starting again, especially in this weather! Interested to know you are sore, though poor you (Epsom salts in a bath are excellent for sore muscles)! I haven't been sore yet, so wondering if I'm doing something wrong?
