Is anyone doing this/done it?

Done my fit test yesterday and done pretty shite

Done the first circuit today, fooking hell, couldnt even manage half of it! I thought id finished the circuit, was feeling pretty chuffed, then i realised that was just the warm up! Jeez

office great descriptions of that workout there Grin

mitchy I saw you on a thread yesterday maybe a month or so old about a high intensity interval training class you did. Just wondering how that compares in difficulty to insanity?

I feel like I'm pushing myself and dripping with sweat and can't do much more the ones I've done but also I've been holding back a teeny bit as I've never done them before and so don't know what to expect/what will come next. Next week I'm going to really push myself Grin

Mitchy1nge · 01/07/2013 08:26

Shock yikes thanks officelady Shock I got up at 5.30 to do it but seem to have been hanging out laundry and wiping things ever since. Just as well!

Reastie that HIITS class was many times harder than insanity - take ski abs for example, there was no touching the floor between the left and right. So where we would go straight back, then up to the left, straight back then up to the right in that class you bring your feet up to the left and somehow swing them up to the right without letting them touch the ground in between - does that make sense? That is the bit that stayed in my mind, it was such an impossibly difficult move. And it was a lot lot faster than insanity (so far, I think month two might be like that class) and hardly anyone could do it, whereas I think anyone who really really wanted to could get through an insanity session.

Mitchy1nge · 01/07/2013 08:31

I don't think they are normally like that, probably more like the shred or insanity

stowsettler · 01/07/2013 11:09

Hello, just spotted this thread and thought I'd join in :-) I did start Insanity this time last year then promptly discovered I was pregnant Hmm.

2 weeks into Insanity now and I've just done the fit test for the second time. Quite a big improvement! Except on suicide jumps, which I loathe! Has anyone completed the Insanity workout and moved on to something else? I'm tempted by P90X but I gather you need more equipment?

Mitchy1nge · 01/07/2013 12:18

hip flexor burner oh my god what the FUCK etc that was so horrible Angry but didn't find the shoulder thing in plié too bad by comparison - I don't think it was 'lovely and quite gentle all the way through' up to that point either, are you insane? Grin it was nice though overall, nice to keep up with everyone else for a change!

I'm worried that month two is going to be severely too hard and I will die of self loathing for not being up to it! But I could repeat month one, worst possible outcome? Apart from dying obviously. That wouldn't be good.

Reastie · 01/07/2013 12:24

mitch you can always try the first month 2 workout and if it's that bad go back to month one. Can't imagine doing anything harder Confused

Hello stow how old is your DC now?

My scales have broken so have bought a fancy pants body fat pair, looking forward to it arriving tomorrow Grin [saddo]

Mitchy1nge · 01/07/2013 12:29

Hi stowsettler :) what a terrifying side effect of insanity first time, please god don't let that happen to me especially as I am a bit old for it

you can get all the p90 workouts online (they are everywhere and various offshoots) and do them in the gym, I didn't even know it was originally a home workout thing until this thread. Unless you prefer doing stuff at home? I think you need a pull up bar thing, it would probably pull my whole house down Shock

ASYLUM CAME TODAY - that's what I'm doing next, the nutrition guidance is so much simpler, I wasted hours of my life yesterday (or nearly an hour) trying to organise my meals for a few days

and if I survive that there is a sort of hybrid asylum/insanity calendar so it just goes on and on and on

Mitchy1nge · 01/07/2013 12:38

Hi reastie, that is a bit exciting Grin - what are the new scales like? I HATE mine, I weigh myself every day (which is reassuring because fluctuations used to scare me but now I can plot a trend on MFP) and no matter how I shift my weight, where I put them in the house, the reading won't deviate each time. They are bit bit and miss with the body fat readings though which is what I really wanted them for. Sometimes it just won't do it. Grrrr

Reastie · 01/07/2013 12:40

these are the scales mitchy will let you know how they go when they arrive but they look very similar to the ones my gym have

Mitchy1nge · 01/07/2013 13:28

they look amazing, look at all those glowing reviews!

am sneakily previewing the asylum Shock might need a lie down

stowsettler · 01/07/2013 16:50

Cheers Mitchy, will check out p90 online. Happy enough to go to the gym (and as I'm a member it'd be good to make a bit more use of it) but tbh it's easier to do stuff at home with Madam to see to. Am back at work next month, which will probably make things even harder Sad

officelady · 02/07/2013 06:38

Morning fellow insanians! Good to see we have another victim participant, welcome stowsettler!
I showed my friend the first insanity DVD last night and she immediately pointed out that the introductory music is very similar to the Casualty theme tune Grin Love the irony!
I did Core Cardio again this morning, and I revise my earlier statement that it was nice and gentle. I was clearly delirious after the hideous hip burning shoulder agony segment. Although I was very proud that I kept going all the way through today, and one of the gym dudes dropped out loads of times, I kept seeing him bent over and pulling faces while I was still in the zone. Go me!
I have decided to start naming the gym dudes in the background, so far I have got "patterned hair man", "bandana guy", "heart rate monitor" and "curly locks mad grin". I'll let you work out which ones they are.

stowsettler · 02/07/2013 10:07

Thanks ladies! reastie DD is now 4 months old. She thinks my jumping around in front of the TV is hilarious.
Did Plyometric Cardio Circuit this morning at 6am. I really must be insane. I found the in-out abs harder than ever this morning (I particularly hate those) but there's no doubt my cardio fitness is way, way higher than it was 3 weeks ago.
officelady well done you! What is this Core Cardio of which you speak? Does your gym run Insanity classes? Confused

Mitchy1nge · 02/07/2013 14:31

core cardio is the one you do every day in recovery week

it was nice to put 'names' to some of the participants - heart rate monitor is not very flexible is he?

from the first few minutes (literally, the first transition from switch to mummy kicks) my limbs were LEADEN - I abandoned it until later and it was easier but have never had that before Confused maybe am just knackered?

combat class and a run tonight so I'd better snap out of it, on the plus side the asylum nutrition plan aka eat every ten minutes is going well

going to be about a million stone :(

Reastie · 02/07/2013 18:40

stow my DD is 2 and when I do my exercise DVDs she starts jumping around and when I finish she likes to high five me and say 'good job Mummy' Grin

Did the cardio one today for first time . Man, that was hard work!

Love the names to people, yes to heart rate monitor man. The pretty lady who's always at the front I think they call her 'the machine'.

mitchy asylum eat plan is eat every 10 minutes? DO expand love the sound of that

My new scales arrived today. I love them. They do weight, body fat, BMI, visceral fat (I think that's the name), BMR, and muscle %.

stowsettler · 02/07/2013 18:42

Crikey. I was looking forward to the 'recovery' week. Maybe not eh.

Ah I see what you mean, the Insanitisers, as I call them. That Tania really does my head in, she's far too fit and perfect.

And you won't be a million stone, think of all those calories you must be metabolising Smile

stowsettler · 03/07/2013 19:19

Ugh, pure cardio and cardio abs this morning, I have to admit I struggled. Thankfully it's just cardio recovery tomorrow, I need the rest.

officelady · 03/07/2013 20:10

I loved Cardio Recovery - it's like a day off! Tania "the machine" aka "lady whoops a lot" gets right on my tits. She never seems to need a break! WTF is that about?!
This morning I suffered with leaden legs during the mummy kicks. I hate mummy kicks - they are the absolute worst bit of Core Cardio. Well, mummy kicks and switch kicks. And hip flexor burners. And the shoulder killers at the end. Apart from that it's all good haha!
Mitchy I am well impressed that you are doing additional exercise - no wonder your appetite is big. I am constantly starving but trying to eat healthily & drink plenty of water. I am typing this whilst drinking a large glass of wine by the way!

Reastie · 04/07/2013 07:19

Good grief mitchy I just googled the asylum Shock if insanity looks insane that looks utterly impossible. I could never do that!

I'm doing plyometric (or whatever it's called) today.

stow yes Tania is far too perfect and pretty for me. I just Envy too much when they show her

Mitchy1nge · 04/07/2013 10:16

I decided not to do insanity yesterday Shock did a sort of mini workout at the gym, warmed up, weights/RIP60, tiny bit of cardio and later walked round some fields looking for running routes.

My knees KILL. I don't know if I have been doing insanity too aggressively enthusiastically or if it's from running as well as jumping but yesterday I woke up all 'let's go downstairs and make breakfast before insanity' and my knees were 'fuck that shit' and they meant the stairs let alone insanity Shock googled various of my knee related symptoms and it seems this is just what happens if you are thousands of years old and super-morbidly obese Hmm

so I don't know, they are a bit better today, I will prioritise insanity and running because they are my favourites and not do any classes - but only run twice a week off road, maybe walk run and I might skip the Weds workout of insanity Shock am sure I will still benefit from a reduced version! Feel a bit sorry for myself though because was having such a lovely time with it all and have lost 3.4kg in total!

Reastie · 04/07/2013 11:24

mitchy I'd bet it might be too much exercise wearing down the knee?? I've heard regular aerobic classes in the long term can be bad for you as there's too much stress on certain joints leading to problems in the long term. Hope you manage to get back on it and wow at losing 3.4kg from it

I did the pyrometrics (or pyrotechnics as I call it Wink ) , hard work as ever...please tell me this will get easier?!

stowsettler · 04/07/2013 12:14

Reastie Grin at your DD, I'm hoping such early exposure to high-intensity exercise will ensure my own DD doesn't have the weight issues her mother has!! Oh and in answer to your question, no I don't think it EVER gets easier!

Mitchy your knees will definitely have issues with running AND insanity. I suspect the gym may not be such an issue (depending on what you do there of course). You should avoid running on hard ground of course, and perhaps even lay off it for a bit. Big CONGRATS on losing so much weight with it - you inspire me!

Mitchy1nge · 04/07/2013 13:29

thanks you lot :)

I sort of managed it, working sort of larghissimo really really slowly and no jumps (kept moving though) although all the bits I hate of core recovery were unaffected by my knee pain and I could manage grrrrr

feel bit less sorry for myself now anyway but not sure about running tonight Confused

yztj · 04/07/2013 14:06

I am so glad to have found this thread. I started Insanity and I am on now day 5. I was searching Mumsnet for other mums who had previously done Insanity but expected all the threads to be old. So I am really happy to have found this one where you are all doing it right now :).
I am finding it a real challenge as I was not doing any real exercise prior to this. I told myself that if it was too hard I would stop and try something a bit easier but I really enjoy it so will keep going.
I was just wondering at what time of day you all do your workouts?

stowsettler · 04/07/2013 14:18

Hi yztj - I am a relative newbie to the thread too, so pleased I found other nutters who subject themselves to Insanity.

I try to do my workouts as early as possible. When I'm not working I get up at 6am to do them before DD wakes up, or I do them after feeding DD and walking DDogs. When I am working I still try to get up early, otherwise I do them AS SOON as I get home - no sitting down or I would just never get round to it!

Well done for keeping going - it is an extreme exercise programme mind, so don't stress yourself if you struggle. I took 3 weeks to do the first 2 weeks (with a bit of other stuff thrown in), but suddenly this week it's clicked.
