I mean for everyone including those who have graduated from the C25K. Do we have one?

Im coming up to my one year anniversary of running now. I have started to do Parkruns as they have now started up near me. I have just come back from a 10K too and am currently feeling the post run euphoria. I would like to tell people about it, but DH isn't that interested (just like Im not interested in his hobbies)

So do we have a thread already which I cant find? Or can this be it?

I think there are a lot of 10k races so you identity is safe GrinGrin. It's a good time regardless of her age , well done you DD

FoundAChopinLizt · 24/04/2013 06:47

Apologies for boasting last night. Was very excited...Blush

EauRouge · 24/04/2013 09:00

Kiwi, Yes, I did the first one and managed it within my target time so was pretty pleased. I didn't go to the last one. I'm hoping to get there this weekend, I'm on drugs with pretty horrible side effects but things are improving so hopefully I can run. Not sure if I'll get a PB though! I need to get some trail shoes to cope with all that mud, it was so slippery.

Well done to your DD Chopin. I'm sure there's an age percentage calculator thing on Cool Runnings, maybe try there.

edwinamerckx · 24/04/2013 11:32

Chopin 46 mins is a good time for a hill course - well done your DD!

kiwibella · 24/04/2013 19:28

46 mins for a 10k is outstanding!!

Hope you are feeling better soon EauRouge... we've had a few days of sunshine so hopefully the park will dry up soon.
We live near the park but I doubt that I will get down there before Saturday to check it out.

I ran 4.5 miles in 50 minutes on the treadmill today with a gazillion interruptions from dd (prob another 10 mins but I'm only counting the timer on the treadmill!!).

I need to get up early to run while the family are sleeping.

FoundAChopinLizt · 24/04/2013 19:59

Thanks everyone for congrats to dd. She is sure to thrash me at my first 5k attempt at end of June Smile

Fyouimfabulous · 25/04/2013 14:03

I've been skiving this thread and my running since my 10k dire race! Getting back out on Sunday and doing a 4 week offer at the gym I used to go to for some cross training from Monday!
Just not felt in the zone at all, but feel worse the longer I leave it!

melliebobs · 25/04/2013 15:10

Just done 8.32k in 61 minutes. Wish I could make my legs go faster Grin

Hedgepig · 25/04/2013 16:05

Roller skates maybe Mellie? When you find the secret to faster legs let me know Mellie

Does any one have any suggestions for keeping my hair out of my eyes. I have a short bob like haircut which is too short to tie back and my hair is really starting to irritate me as it gets warmer

Fyouimfabulous · 25/04/2013 17:08

Hedge - how about an elasticated hairband?

melliebobs · 25/04/2013 18:18

Hedgepig when I played footie I used to have short hair but long fringe. I had one of those elastic hair bands that was 2 elastic circles but joined at one point.

Itsaboatjack · 25/04/2013 20:59

Well I did my first run today since my half marathon last weekend. Felt pretty good, until 3 people ran past me so fast it felt like I was going at walking speed Grin

I've been struggling to shake off a cold, and today I realised why, I've come out covered in spots - I have chicken pox. So I'm quarantined and I guess won't be out running for a while. It's only 4 weeks until the London 10,000 so I hope I'm all better by then, I keep getting told how it is going to be really bad as I'm an adult!! I've done the race every year since it started so really don't want to miss it.

Hedgepig · 25/04/2013 21:25

Thanks for the hair idea, I do have a hair band but it pings off my head, I think it may be a bit small.

Itsaboat. Oh no The Pox ! I caught it form DS1 when he was 4 months old, sorry to say I have never been so ill in my life , it was like flu and serious sunburn at the same time. Poxclin is supposed to be good.

melliebobs · 25/04/2013 21:40

Quarantine period for the pox is only 5 days so providing u feel ok u should be fine (dd who's 13month has just had it. Plied her with virasooth and piriton!)

Nicnocknoo · 25/04/2013 22:06

Kiwibella, I didn't think you were being presumptuous at all don't worry. I had a crappy time but couldn't keep taking ADs so decided to do something about it. Running is so good for people in so many ways. I drop the boys at school and then go for a run out along the country lanes - no music, just peace and quiet punctuating by me gasping for breath! Sets me up for the day.

Went on a great 10k run along the local canal path the other day (knocked 10mins off my previous time!! which sounds fab until you consider my last time was in a half marathon where I was taking it slow and also the canal path was v flat Smile). I did overtake two boats though - ok they were going v slow!

I just need to work out how to get more energy. I swear having short legs doesn't help me!

FoundAChopinLizt · 27/04/2013 10:21

I'm so impressed by all the dedication on this thread.

Any advice for shin splints please? Exercises or shoes that you've found helpful. I'm just starting wk3 of C25K. I pronate a lot and am running in nike cross trainers that I had already, am looking to buy New Balance as have a gift voucher! It's not a huge problem, just pain on beginning of run which settles, and tender to touch after a run.

EauRouge · 27/04/2013 12:34

Chopin, I got painful shins around that part of C25K but it didn't last. It is hard to stretch your shins isn't it? I found that pulling my toes up helped if you see what I mean. Have you had a gait analysis done?

Did anyone else do a Parkrun this morning? I did my local one and I think I did pretty well. I didn't time myself so I'm waiting for the official results to come through .

EauRouge · 27/04/2013 12:35

Did I bold C25K on purpose? Why did I do that? Confused

FoundAChopinLizt · 27/04/2013 12:37

Thanks Eau, no haven't had gait analysis done, am scared of posh running shop in case I get hypnotised into buying some crazy price shoes from some young fit type.

EauRouge · 27/04/2013 12:46

I thought that too but I checked out the prices of my local specialist place and it's not all that much more than Sports Direct. If you tell them you're on a budget then they'll help you stick to it.

Hedgepig · 27/04/2013 13:19

Eau I'm waiting for my park run result I was over optimistically hooding for a sub 30min. I didn't make that but hopefully got close, why oh why do I always forget to stop my flipping watch at the end of a run .

It is really worth getting the right trainers as you know you over pronate. My local shop is very low key but the lady that runs it is very good.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 27/04/2013 14:37

Eau and Hedge - I'm waiting for my park run result as well. I don't think I'll have a great time but at least I went out in the cold and wet for some exercise Smile.

Hedgepig · 27/04/2013 14:56

Got my time, just under 32mins a new PB and I have improved my time by just over 5 mins from my 1st ParkRun in icey Jan GrinGrinGrin not bad even though I say it myself . Hopefully I can do a sub 30min by the end of the summer .

Hedgepig · 27/04/2013 14:57

Obviously I have just completely outed myself to anyone paying attention to my local Park Run

EauRouge · 27/04/2013 15:38

Well done on the PB! I'd love to be able to do a sub 30 min 5k, maybe by the end of the year. I'm still waiting for the results of mine
