Done it . Hurrah. Cannot believe how long 3 mins seems to last for. Thank God for "Laura" ... I wonder if she comes on MN?

pennygallops · 22/05/2013 21:12

Could be a bit of muscle strain namelessmcnally - ???

For those using run keeper - I found it inconsistent. And I find my GPS watch much more reliable and better to track my pace mid-run.

I like hearing about your club training cinnamon, then I try to copy it as best I can. I'd love to join a club but just can't fit in at the moment. Sad

fromheretomaternity · 22/05/2013 21:23

W8 D2 today - nearing the end!! My knees are not feeling so great, once I've 'graduated' I may have to reduce how often I go. Am seeing a physio who thinks they are tracking wrongly so the kneecap is causing friction - not good. Doing physio to try to help correct it.

Doing Race for Life next weekend and I am having stern words with my knees to keep going till then!

NamelessMcNally · 22/05/2013 21:42

It's not really on a muscle penny... Fear it may be ligament or tendon type stuff. It was such a fab running evening I could cry.

NamelessMcNally · 22/05/2013 21:43

Go FromHere. You will do fab. How about a support to get you through and even a few days rest pre.

UmBongo · 22/05/2013 22:02

Well done fromhere, good luck for your race for life, I am doing one in a few weeks and have just done w8r1.

I ran for 25 minutes and did 3.6K, a little bit slower pace than last run, but it was bucketing down and I wanted to make sure I can do the extra time. So I will try and speed up a bit next time.

Wasn't half wet when I got in though!

I don't have a gadget to track my run when I am doing it, so I do it on map my run when I get home, the only problem is I have to map each individual run as I can't seem to edit the previous run without it changing the last runs statistics.

fasterthanthewind · 22/05/2013 22:05

this is a new nickname and NOT accurate for this thread!

have just started running after 3DCs and never having done it before. I'm fairly fit - walk 5 miles most weekdays - and partly because I don't have a fancy phone/MP3 player, just kind of went for it.

anyway, my achilles tendon, always a weak point, is hurting... Not agony, but I felt it quite badly the next day going up and down stairs, and having bruised it once really nastily years ago, I don't fancy damaging it!

What should I do? I can run 10-15 minutes without stopping, and when I do stop it's only for 30 seconds or so breather - so the walk 2 mins run 1 sort of stuff seems a bit crazy. Or maybe I should be doing that?

cinnamongreyhound · 23/05/2013 07:17

Well done JH1967 that's fantastic!!!!

It sounds like your Achilles NamelessMcNally. I really don't know anything about injuries! I injured myself and tried to carry on but ended up having to take 2 weeks off. I am still in pain now and will never know if its because I pushed it or not. I knew at the training I did that I should stop as it was excruciating but didn't so I'd say run but listen to your boy while you are. There are quite a lot of good websites if you know what you've injured or if you can afford it go to a recommended physio.

Well done wizzler!

Glad you are getting it sorted fromheretomaternity :) good luck for your race for life.

Well done Umbongo, I reckon that's a 32min 5k. I can't use any mapping sites as large chunks of my run you can't see the path to map it hence using the apps.

Welcome fasterthanthewind, sounds like you could start at week 5 or 6 and go from there? It is constant running after that though 25, 28 and then 30 mins. Or you could just concentrate on going an extra min or two without stopping each time.

Well I was crap in the time trial!! Well 1min 56 off my best 5k. Went off at the slot for my pb and was totally last over the line :(. Fastest 5k since I injured myself though and I ran there and back 2k each way. Lovely evening for it but managed to upset dh by asking him to drive my club reregistration form down because I forgot it (10-12 min run/2min drive) :(. He eventually forgave me but I was dreading going home and he was grumpy for some time :(

OP posts:
jchocchip · 23/05/2013 08:58

:( at forgetting registration, cinnamon, I worry about my parkrun barcode every time. I couldn't ask dh to fetch anything at the moment as car has flat battery :( and we can't find charger. Think a new battery may be on the cards.

travellingwilbury · 23/05/2013 13:59

Hi all , Wk5 r2 done :) I managed it , still thought I.might die in the last minute or two , but I did it !

Still scared about the next bit , 20 mins is a loooong time .

Sorry I am coming on here and blurting but not responding to anyone , my phone is being ridiculous .

Looks like everyone is doing really well though .

gingerpinz · 23/05/2013 15:10

Well done travelling, that's fab!

I really surprised myself today and went out when I really didn't want to. Had planned to go to my fave country park to run while DH took boys to play park again but weather being really weird here today with bursts of sun then rain showers and it's blowing a gale so decided against going there and I nearly talked myself into postponing until later today or tomorrow but tbh think I would have struggled to fit it in and weirdly I actually wanted to go!!...and I did!

It was Wk 4 Day 1 and I did find it a bit hard in bits (mostly struggling with breathing) but I did it and managed my second fastest overall pace so far...and I feel great now!

Cannot believe how much I am enjoying this and want to do it!

dementedma · 23/05/2013 20:30

Week 6 run 3 and I did it! 25 minutes which worked out at 3.84 k so slow but I bloody did it!
Week six, eat my shorts.Grin

Dingle · 23/05/2013 20:40

Well done everyone, you are so inspiring. Unfortunately this bug has really knocked me for 6. The thought of running at the moment is far from my mind but hoping to start up again over the weekend.

I am wondering whether to just start W2 again, or even to start right at the beginning from W1.

jchocchip · 23/05/2013 20:59

Well done travelling, ginger and demented Grin Dingle as soon as you feel well enough try and take it up where you left off make sure you do your warm up and cool down to avoid stiffness. Haven't run tonight but went on cross trainer, lifted some fairly heavy weights and swam a few lengths - all low impact stuff to rest my foot. Will go for pb on Saturday :)

pennygallops · 23/05/2013 21:47

Evening all. I had a little 6.6k run, managed to complete that in 39mins. I'm aspecting to do lots of running next week as it's half-term and report writing. I hate report writing so I'll be running as work avoidance.

Everyone seems to be enjoying their running. I sometimes wonder why it is so enjoyable and addictive...

You'll manage 20mins travellingwilbury - you are a runner now.

Your pace will increase dementedma without you even noticing, just because you are running regularly. My first parkrun was 32 mins not I'm now nearly under 27mins, that's in 5 months.

Good luck for Saturday jchocchip My family are trying another parkrun this Saturday - a 5th anniversary bash!

Hope you are feeling better soon dingle.

Glad you are enjoying as much as the rest of us gingerpins. Some days I think I am a running bore.

I bet you weren't that slow cinnamon. Good hear you are well on the way to recovery!

And finally ... welcome fasterthanthewind!

cinnamongreyhound · 23/05/2013 22:22

You will do it travellingwilbury!!!

Well done gingerpinz.

Glad you're back on track dementedma!!

I'd start where you left off dingle, hope you're feeling better soon :)

I did it in 28m 44 pennygallops, was just horrible being overtaken by EVERYONE!!!

Not parkrunning Saturday as I promised the boys we'd go to the cinema. Our local one has a Saturday morning special of £1 a ticket for old films and we haven't been for ages because of my running! Hmmm just looked and the film are wreck it Ralph which we've seen, Oz which is way to scary for ds1 and tinkerbell which I imagine dss(11) will not be happy to watch. It was brave last week :(. Perhaps I will run then! Was going to say not sure whether to go Saturday afternoon for tomorrow evening. Can't go Sunday but will Monday again. My running buddy is doing a triathlon on Sunday so won't be running with me for a few days!

We are no longer in big/slim/whatever weightloss but sport and exercise topic, hope as many people find us!

OP posts:
pennygallops · 24/05/2013 07:35

Hmmm, I wonder why there's a been a change of location?

I've woken up to horrible cold, windy and rainy weather ... I'm a little relieved it's a rest day for me.

yetanotherworry · 24/05/2013 10:28

Hi all. Just finished W4R4 although I found it really hard going and frequently had to rely on mental power i.e. I'll just keep going until the next corner. I made the mistake of thinking I'd run round the fields at the top of a big hill so I was exhausted by the time I'd finished my 10 min warm up walk! Then when I got up there it was so windy. Its the first time I've never taken my fleece off. I think I'll stick to running round the streets in future.

Good luck for all the park runs this weekend...

fruitpastille · 24/05/2013 10:54

Well I have been rubbish at keeping up with this thread but am at least keeping up with my running. Had a few days off with a bad cold but back on track now and am on week 7 doing 25 minute runs. It's going ok but I am very slow! I was going to try the local begginers club but am a bit intimidated as they do about 3 miles and I don't know if I am ready for that. I am being inspired by all the success stories on here though.

JH1967 · 24/05/2013 16:23

Glad I'm not the only mad person enjoying this running lark. I woke at 5 this morning and decided to go for a run. I was supposed to be on W6R2 but it would not play so I skipped to run 3, and amazed myself (and the dog!) by running for 25 minutes Grin I've checked on map my run and I cover 5.1 km including warm up and cool down so well chuffed. I will sign up for the local race for life, i can't be the worst.

pennygallops · 24/05/2013 20:31

Sounds like you are doing well JH1967, fruitpastille and yetanotherworry.
About to get the running gear ready for the whole family's trip to the parkrun. Quite excited about the big anniversary event at the parkrun we are going to. And today DH found DS's running trainers that we have been searching for all week. Smile
Happy running everyone!

UmBongo · 24/05/2013 21:27

dementedma you are going faster than me, I just did 28 minutes (W8R2) and did 3.7km. Todays excuse is that it was very slippy on the bridlepath on the first half of the run and that is why I am not going fast. But again I did get a bit further than last time and I got home without being rained on so that's always a plus. Grin. Every little helps as they say on the advert. If I can do 5k in less than 40 minutes in another few weeks then I will be pleased with myself (utterly shocked at myself actually considering a few short weeks ago I thought I was going to die when Laura asked me to run for 3 minutes ShockGrin )

cinnamongreyhound · 24/05/2013 22:34

Well done everyone! I didn't go out today and I'm not sure I'll go tomorrow as I have a very poorly doggy who may or may not be with us tomorrow :(. Shes had antibiotics and anti inflammatories but so far her temp hasn't reduced. Vet isn't sure what's causing it yet but we've got another appointment tomorrow and if it hasn't changed then they will most likely recommend we have her put to sleep. She's very old and I don't want her to have any investigative operations that may give her another 6 months to a year of life. Vet said today she'd support euthanasia but we wanted to try something before we made that decision. I hope I haven't just given her a night of pain to do it tomorrow anyway :(

OP posts:
jchocchip · 24/05/2013 22:44

Oh poor doggy. At least you are giving the antibiotics a chance. Hope they work.
