Makeitup, I've just completed w5r2 (2x 8 min runs) along the same streets that I did my w1 runs. I struggled with w1, thinking that I was never going to be able to do it and today's run seems fairly easy in comparison i.e. I was more confident that I could do it.

Hope all the injuries get better soon. Do you think its the change in weather making everyone's joints a bit sensitive?

Shotgun, I would seek advice from a physio about your arthritis and running. Arthritis is a 'wear and tear' disease so you may cause yourself more damage in the long term but I don't know if it depends on the type of arthritis.

Morning girls x

Knee is feeling a lot better this morning, stiff and hurty when I first weight bear, but loosening up quite quickly and then pain free. Do I run? DH is grumbling at me (not that he knows ANYTHING! Wink) but I want to go, and it is only 3 miles scheduled for today. If I go to the racecourse, I can always stop after one lap if it does start again.

yetanotherworry, I wondered that, cos it went very cold again, and I didn't really warm up properly neither, just handed the car and kids over to dh at the train station and started running back towards home! I normally walk for a few minutes first, or have been up the school and back or something beforehand.

Good morning guys Smile

I'm still plodding away at the 1 min intervals but I stopped smoking this week, eeeeeek! Lastnights run felt so much easier. Hoping to step it up a bit very soon.

Hope it's lovely and sunny where you are today xx

Chopstheduck · 31/05/2013 07:24

Oopla, well done! I used to smoke, so know how hard it is, but hopefully the running will help you too, it's a great de-stresser!

cinnamon, any news on Billy?

Chops - you do need to make sure that you warm up properly - as well as stretch when you've finished - otherwise you risk injury generally, never mind aggravating your knee.

Report
pennygallops · 31/05/2013 14:16

I will be stretching more when I'm back with the running.

So I've been to get my gait checked again today. After running over 400 miles since October, my running trainers are on their last legs (no pun intended) and I no longer over pronate. So I'm now in neutral trainers but with greater cushioning (and quite a bit poorer). They are cloudster on trainers with a very funky sole. Can't wait to try them out.

I have no idea where my message went from earlier!!

Thanks for asking Chopstheduck, we are picking him up tomorrow morning straight after parkrun :) Confused. Glad to hear your knees are feeling better, I'd give it a go and if they are not happy after a couple of minutes walk home.

Sorry not to reply yesterday I was at legoland all day with my mum and my boys. Had a lovely day but it was long! Away from home 7.30-10 and lots of standing made my calves feeling quite stiff.

Glad to hear you've found a solution to your problem pennygallops and hope you enjoy your new trainers :) scary how many miles you can rack up in just a few months!

BigStickBIWI - I know! Blush I'm generally ok, because I walk, then maybe bike, so I get a good warm up like that. Really must take more care though

cinnamon, that is brilliant news!!
Legoland during half term must have been interesting! We live jsut down the road, so I had an annual pass and used to take the dts loads when they were toddlers and the older two were at school.

pennygallops - that is interesting, didn't realise it was possible to change gait!

I'm off in a bit, fingers crossed knees will be ok, been on my feet most of the day and they seem fine, so hopefully will be ok.

I'm not pain free, but I think I'm on the mend. I'm marshalling tomorrow at the parkrun and offered to tail run the week after. Even though I want to get out running, I'm not going to run just yet. I did manage 5 mins on the treadmill at the shop - Smile. It is so frustrating being injured!

Nice dog news cinnamon.

Do you wear knee supports chopstheduck?

Well done on your run oopla.

Did 30 minutes tonight and covered about 4k. Am feeling more confident about the Race for Life in 3 weeks now.

I know all of you run and as I have restarted c25k I was wondering if anyone can recommend a pouch or similar to hold a mobile phone during running. I will be running in very hot weather and was not convinced of the armband thingy. I also don't want to buy another pair of shorts as I have plenty albeit without proper pockets.

BIWI · 31/05/2013 21:17

I have one of these It sits snugly around the waist, holds my iPhone, car keys and a tissue or two, and doesn't bounce around too much!

I have discovered tonight that I had listened to the right podcast the other night! So tonight was a lot easier!
Just wondering if anyone can recommend anything for fallen arches?

Report
pennygallops · 31/05/2013 21:31

makeitup have you had your gait checked? Apparently I don't have very high arches but they can fit trainers to suit your feet, speed and gait! There seems to be a lot of money in running.

So guys should I get a knee support for when my knee is better? Or run without, so I know when to stop and rest?

cinnamon How about... Couch 2 5k ... more than a hobby ???
Or couch 2 5k ... warning, running is addictive ???

Sorry, I'm not great with ideas tonight - I'm deep in the process of writing end of year school reports. Confused

Wow long thread!

I am now an official graduate having done W8D3 and tomorrow I will be at the Regents Park Race for Life 5k. I am feeling a bit nervous about it, don't know why really, but I'm sure will be fine when I get there.

Knees still dodgy (runners knee - knees don't track properly) and really struggling to get the motivation to do my physio regularly but need to force myself so I can carry on running long term.

Report
cinnamongreyhound · 31/05/2013 21:53

Good luck tomorrow fromheretomaternity, I'm are you'll be great.

No idea about knee support, my dh wears lots of wraps when he lifts and wouldn't life without but I haven't had to wear anything so far so I wouldn't like to advise pennygallops.

New thread over here

hi, started c25k start of month and have run 2 or 3 times a week.
wk1 and wk 2 ran both twice.
wk3 ran 3 times.
wk4 couldn't complete 1st time but have run it twice more and will do once more.
so we start wk 5 next wk and there are 3 runs which look very hard. should we do 5a till we manage it, then 5b till we manage then 5c till we manage which looks very hard. or should we do 5a,5b,5c as far as possible then repeat whole week till we manage?

New recruit here! Grin

Spent some time researching last night and reading threads and forums. Whilst on the couch.. Decided its a whole new month, lovely morning, dog needs more exercise too, and I was fed up with my own pathetic excuses.

So the scruffy trainers came out and I m now 'glowing' nicely Grin

Hats off to the people that started in cold weather - miles more getupandgo than me!!

Really puffing when I was cooling down so very glad of the podcast music to disguise my own wheezes Blush

Welcome muddyprints and watchingout!
I would suggest giving them a go and see, don't assume you won't manage w5r1, have a positive mind when you go in and take the runs nice and steady.

This thread is almost full so come and join us on our new one here :)

just a follow up point on armbands etc to hold ipods. I had my monthly massage today (my one and only treat to myself!) and had mentioned to the guy that i was doing C25K as he had commented on the better muscle tone in my legs. When he was doing my right arm/shoulder it was incredibly painful, although I hadnt actually been feeling any pain before he started working it. I was stunned when he asked "so, what do you hold in your right hand when you are running? Your ipod?". Could have knocked me down with a feather! yes, I do, and its causing me to hunch that shoulder up and tense it and he could feel the difference. Told me to imagine I'm holding a butterfly between my finger and thumb, gently enough not to hurt it but enough so that it can't escape (or a Pringle, he said, if you cant bear the thought of holding onto butterflies lol), and that will keep the arm and shoulder relaxed. so now you know!
