Well that was a lovely fresh morning run. Managed 5k in around 28mins - happy with that. There was a refreshing light drizzle, no wind and a warmish temp. I'm now ready to face the day, (my head is observing me this morning).

Chopstheduck · 21/05/2013 07:22

sounds lovely! Are you a teacher then? Had to read that last sentence a few times before I made any sense of it! Blush

gingerpinz · 21/05/2013 08:56

That sounds lovely penny...my kind of conditions.

It's beautiful here too but no chance of getting out until later this evening as I am on my own with DCs all day and then have my book club at 6pm. Planning to take my running kit with me and go on the way home (Wk3 Day 3).

UmBongo · 21/05/2013 09:24

At least you won't come across too many hills in Norfolk chopstheduck Enjoy the flatness.

Oopla · 21/05/2013 10:21

Hi guys, back to walking till my ankles chill out a bit went for a ramble lastnight got a bit lost and found a wood and the cutest pond complete with tadpoles Smile was pretty excited!

OhThisIsJustGrape · 21/05/2013 11:40

Chops if your hotel is in Acle then you could go for a lovely run along the Norfolk Broads. I don't know that area very well but I bet there are some lovely paths along the waterways, perhaps a google of the area would find somewhere suitable? Just don't try and run along the Acle straight (major accident black spot :( )

Still having knee pain, feels like it will never settle. Thought I was ok yesterday morning but after pushing a shopping trolley round waitrose the pain was back so I'm keeping dosed up with ibuprofen and icing my knees as per physio advice. Can't see me running this week though, gutted as I got such a buzz out of it. Although I think I'm more gutted that I spent nearly £100 on trainers that I may never use Grin

Chopstheduck · 21/05/2013 13:54

waterways is a lovely idea. I don't know if there is a towpath or anything along the Bure? I def wouldn't try the Acle straight, I grew up in Gorleston (nr Gt Yarmouth) and the number of cars I have seen in the ditches along there! I tried googling but it is such an awkward area, roads without paths and some runs even seem to go along the a47!

migrant · 21/05/2013 14:40

Managed to do wk7, day1 tonight. Just scraped 4km in the 25 mins which was tough going for me, I'm usually soooo slow! However, I have my heart set on 5km in 30 mins, so I really tried to up the pace tonight.

So stoked that I can now even consider running for 25 minutes. This programme really is quite something!

travellingwilbury · 21/05/2013 14:52

Stupid phone is playing up but Wk5 r1 done today ! I did find the last 5 mins a struggle and I can't say I am looking forward to the rest of the runs this week but I will be doing the next one on thurs .

Sorry for those with poorly bits and hurrah for everyone doing fab runs .

cinnamongreyhound · 21/05/2013 19:07

I was getting a blood blister on my big toe in my old trainers but only if they got wet chopstheduck. I also got a black second toe (weirdo with second toe longer than big toe Blush) but my new trainers are a 1/2 size bigger. Just as my black nail grew out it happened again and I've found if I do my trainers up tighter it doesn't happen :)
Glad you enjoyed your run, have a lovely trip! Acle is an odd place, it's not too far to drive run and drive back for a shower. I wonder if yarmouth has a shower in the toilets?

Good time for your 5K Pennygallops, hope your observation goes well.

Lovely to find tadpoles Oopla, we have them in the pond at our country park and the boys are so excited!

Think positive OhThisIsGrapes, you WILL use those trainers!

Well done migrant, reckon that's good going for week 7 Grin

You will do it travellingwilbury! Well done.

We have sun!!!!!! Was going at 6 but waiting for my friends hubby to get home so we can go together. Hope the sun lasts until 8, at least I walked the dog in the sunshine :) Got my clubs handicapped 5k time trial tomorrow, I am probably going to be the second or third to go :( we start staggered so we all finish together. The fastest guy at the last one (which I started but didn't even manage 100m because of my leg) was 15min something!! Hoping I will beat my parkrun with it being on road.

Yep, chopstheduck I am a teacher and I have a very lovely Y3 class this year.
Ooooo gingerpins I'd love to be in a book club. Did you get your run in?
Congratulations migrant and travellingbury - you are both making great progress. I agree migrant the program is fantastic, I've lost count of the number of people I have recommended it to.
How was your training session cinnamon? (And my lesson did go well, thanks.)

BigStickBIWI · 21/05/2013 20:49

OMG I really can't imagine being able to run 5K in 15 minutes!

gingerpinz · 21/05/2013 21:19

I did penny and I am very proud of myself for going...would never have done that in the past! Had a grumpy/testing day with the DCs and book dashed out to book group as soon as DH got home at 5.30, didn't finish 'til 7.30 but then got changed in the pub toilets and went to a local park on the way home. Lovely evening, beautiful blossom on the trees, lots of people out and about enjoying themselves. Ran a bit slower than I have been but still 14 min/mile overall so not dreadful and enjoyed it.

Well done migrant and travelling!

Hope you had a good run tonight cinnamon and good luck tomorrow.

pennygallops · 21/05/2013 21:22

Good for you gingerpins. Sometimes I think it's not about pace or distance, but just running for the love of running. Grin It's so good for my stress levels.

cinnamongreyhound · 21/05/2013 22:07

Training last week Pennygallops? We did 4 min at 10k pace, 2 min at 5k pace, 2min recovery. We did that 5 times. I tried to change pace but did very slow jog in recovery as I'm still stiff after running so can't stop start. Tonight we did about 8.5k in 51 mins GPS is not great at the moment with very leafy trees! One said 10.8k the other said 7.4k (runkeeper and endomondo), looking at both maps you can kind of see where each went wrong!

Well done Gingerpinz! Glad you enjoyed it, looking forward to my 5k tomorrow :)

Well done on post book vlub run ginger. I was a bit stressy but have been out for a little run by the canal this evening and feel better. Feet ache though Grin . I like the idea of a handicapped 5k and everyone finishing together. Would be a bit crowded at the finish funnel though!

cinnamongreyhound · 22/05/2013 04:10

It's on a road but a quiet one, more a finish line than funnel :)

OP posts:
Chopstheduck · 22/05/2013 07:46

I like the idea of a handicapped run, cept I'd prob have to start the day before anyone else! WinkGrin

I knew of one shower in the market place toilets in Yarmouth if it still exists. It's annoying, I could have gone for a run along Gorleston seafront then back to my parents house but my strange parents don't have a shower! They only like baths.

I've always found running quite de-stressing, but the lovely thing I've noticed now is my mind wanders and I'm not just concentrating on getting to the next bend, etc. I can get out and really clear my head, and the time flies past.

I think I need shoes half a size bigger too, though thankfully mine hasn't gone black yet. At this rate though I will be spending the summer in trainers!

That's a great pace, cinnamon. My gps on my phone doesn't seem too bad (using runkeeper) it gets the general route right, but it does cut corners a bit and I really look like I've been running pissed as the lines go very wobbly!

cinnamongreyhound · 22/05/2013 08:15

My runkeeper just seems to dart off in a straight line and back if it can't find me, usually adding a couple of km! Endomondo just stops and I end up doing a km in anywhere from 10 to 25 mins depending how long I'm under the trees! Be nice if it just drew a rough line from where it had me before and where I end up! I also got the really wiggly lines! Thinking of getting a garmin but don't know if that will be an improvement?

OP posts:
Chopstheduck · 22/05/2013 09:19

It might just be a poor GPS signal in your area. Mine normally has three bars on and shows as 'good' coverage and thinking about it, even in the woods it tracks fairly well. Do you keep yours in the back of your tights? I wonder if an armstrap would be better for accuracy?

Also, I think runtastic was better for tracking - i got nice straight lines with that Forest run Whereas Runkeeper, same run is all wavy and missed the sharp turns and plonked me on the road at one point.

cinnamongreyhound · 22/05/2013 10:22

I do put it in my leggings but have for some time and it has only started to be a problem since the trees got leaves :(

JH1967 · 22/05/2013 14:49

Well week 6 run 1 done this morning, it was beautiful, I put my course on Map My Run and found out I'd covered just over 5k!!! Thought I was only doing 3k but had put miles in by mistake Shock

Chopstheduck · 22/05/2013 16:11

JH1967 - that is brilliant!!

I did mine this morning, feeling a bit achy today, probably after all the cycling yesterday too. Only 3 miles today, day 5 of my plan. BUT, I can see MUSCLES in my THIGHS! I was sooo pleased! I've never seen muscles in my thighs before, they are normally hidden by all the fat!

NamelessMcNally · 22/05/2013 16:49

Well done JH!

Help required folk. Did a 10k at the weekend, a light run on Monday and today should be a run day, would be light as have my official 10k this Friday...

Problem, I am having some odd almost plucky twinges on the back of my left leg between the calf and the ankle. Rest of my body feels fab, no soreness, no twinges. I've been icing my leg and doing a muscle rub. Sitting out my run tonight (weeps) a think I may have pushed to much (about 30k in a week for a novice). Has anyone any idea what the hell I have done to myself and if its safe to run. It's not sore but odd...

HELP!!

wizzler · 22/05/2013 19:11

Going to do W3R1 tonight... fingers crossed ... Dingle, how are you doing, are you ok ?
