I actually googled Parkruns local to me....I never knew they existed. I may be tempted with a bit more practice.

Where abouts are you jchocchip?

jchocchip · 13/05/2013 22:32

My local parkrun is Bradford

Dingle · 13/05/2013 22:38

LOL, sorry! Grin I am nowhere near, I am in Kent! x

jchocchip · 14/05/2013 03:57

My dh is from kent. I've run whitstable and pegwell bay - both two lap courses and pegwell has narrow paths so not really suitable for buggy pushing. Trouble is if you are slow on a two lapper, you don't get lapped by many so it is a bit lonely. On a 3 lapper I get lapped by everyone up to about 30 mins so more social Grin I may run orpington one day as near mils house.

travellingwilbury · 14/05/2013 07:21

Morning runners :)

I am going to do Wk4 r1 today and I am a bit worried about it . Wish me luck please .

I will go after school drop off and get it done , still don't feel 100% but hopefully will still do ok fingers crossed .

Good luck to everyone today .

wizzler · 14/05/2013 08:43

Dingle... if you run in the rain, there is no one else aound to notice !!

I am steeling myself to buy some running shoes this lunchtime.. possibly from a proper running shop... feel a fraud as I have only shuffled round the block three times!

Dingle · 14/05/2013 09:10

Hubby works nr Orpington. The thought of actually stepping outside my garage is scary!!!!!

I have an old pair of running shoes that I brought to do the Flora Light 5k in Hyde Park years and years ago

Last night I noticed that one side of the heel is all coming away, the "bubbles" have all popped! Confused Not noticable when I "run" but long term will need replacing.

Good luck with your purchase and your shuffling wizzler.

travellingwilbury · 14/05/2013 10:23

I have been and gone and done it :)

It was ok but the last five minutes was a struggle but I managed . Very pleased ad I was preparing myself to repeat Wk 3 if I couldn't manage .

Good luck on the shoe shopping .

Tis I, SilentLurker (don't ask).

Go Wilbury!

Dingle - I started off on the treadmill and loathing the idea of running outside but I now find that I can only do a "short" run inside, then I get bored plus I am so slow on the treadmill. Outside I am now finding it much more enjoyable. Odd. It's all about getting past the mental barriers. So far I have got over:

I can't run outside (everyone will laugh).
I can't run uphills (I will die).
I can't run in the rain (I will melt).
I can't run in a proper run with proper runners (they will point and laugh).

Wizzler - try to go somewhere to get your gait analysed if you are investing in new trainers. I bought a pair based on the statistical probability that I over pronate as most folk do. Then my knee started niggling, got analysed and I'm neutral... Proper trainers and niggle is less niggly.

Well, last night was my long run in prep for my 10k (10 days to go, gulp). First mile all uphill with wind in face. Then next 1.5 miles flat with wind in face. Then bit of downhill and wind on my back, lovely. Seemed like it would bucket any mo. Managed to cover 9.5k, could have kept going but want the first time I cover 10k to be next Friday. I was rather proud!

Oopla · 14/05/2013 13:16

Nice work nameless good luck for the 10k Grin

I am still plodding on with the x 7 sets of 1min intervals. Managed to do it lastnight for the first time without stopping before the beep. Woo!

cinnamongreyhound · 14/05/2013 14:42

Well done everyone for keep going. Looking like my run will be a wet one tonight!

Chopstheduck · 14/05/2013 15:06

everyone is doing fab!

i can really empathise with the mental barriers. I'm still too shy to attempt a parkrun!

However, I have started a new training plan. I was stagnating a bit without a schedule to run to. I'm attempting the beginners half marathon plan on runkeeper. 2 down 62 to go! Shock I know it will take longer than the 16 weeks, because I have a holiday in the middle of in, but seeing all the green ticks building up and feeling like I am making progress with def egg me on a bit more.

I had a lovely soggy and windy run this morning. It was desserted though, and I love having the racecourse to myself :)

gingerpinz · 14/05/2013 19:30

Hi everyone!

I have been lurking for a bit and you have all been inspiring me.

I am on Wk 2 of my second go at C25K! The first one was after I had DS1 and I never actually finished it, although I did successfully complete a race for life shortly before I got pregnant with him so I know I can do it.

My reasons for trying it again are that I had been more into swimming for a bit (did a few open water swims last year) but appear to have developed a tennis elbow type thing so trying to rest my arm for a while but I really want to lose some weight so decided to try running again... and I am LOVING it!!! So much so, in fact that I was meant to be running Sun/Wed/Fri this week but am desperate to get back out again and it is a beautiful evening so am thinking of going tonight instead to do Wk 2 Day 3.

Oh, I am also planning to enter a 'Spartan Race' with my sister in September so that is giving me a goal to aim for too.

Oopla · 14/05/2013 19:48

Just like to take a moment to thank kanye west.

Oopla · 14/05/2013 19:49

Halfway up hill of doom. Grin

smellsofsick · 14/05/2013 20:39

Go Oopla, go!

Oopla · 14/05/2013 20:56

Cheers smells Smile

From now on only hip hop going on my iPod !

rusmum · 14/05/2013 20:59

Cannot get off week 5 for the life of me, did run 2 5 times and now on 5 th run 3b?????? Blush

cinnamongreyhound · 14/05/2013 21:07

Sounds exciting Chopstheduck! My run was pretty soggy but bizarrely busy! 3 dog walkers, two runners and a large group of Americans lookin at a tree Confused

Welcome gingerpinz! You are mad for doing a spartan race, I looked at it but barbed wire and fire while running are not my thing.

Come on rusmum you can do it!! You've done it once you can do it again. I'm betting its mostly mental and you need to believe in yourself :)

OP posts:
rusmum · 14/05/2013 21:38

Thanks cinnamon , I will complete w5/3 tomorrow!!!!!!!!' Grin Assertive face

wizzler · 14/05/2013 22:29

Did w2r1 tonight and really enjoyed it...cannot believe how quick I am acclimatising (sp?) and even starting to miss it when I don't go out.

gingerpinz · 14/05/2013 22:48

Thanks cinnamon! I may very well be mad (it has been said before! Wink) but it can't be much worse than swimming in a 9 degree loch said to contain a monster!! ...and to be fair, I think the official site is a bit misleading and makes it seem scarier than it actually is because I found a youtube video someone made while doing it last year and it had a few challenges but nothing too horrific!

Just back from Wk2 Day 3, which I nearly wimped out of as I didn't get DS2 to sleep until 9pm and was comfy and cosy in my jammies but I am so glad I went...the beach was deserted, the sky was a gorgeous pink, the dog was delighted and I managed my longest distance/fastest pace so far even though it felt quite hard in bits.

Good luck tomorrow rusmum you can do it!

That's exactly how I am feeling too wizzler...never thought I would say that!!

JH1967 · 15/05/2013 07:23

Woke up with sore throat so W6R1 will have to wait...gutted Sad

Have looked again at parkrun, maybe i'll do the run for life first and see how I do.
Every one is doing so well.

OhThisIsJustGrape · 15/05/2013 09:13

Today should've been W1R2 but after getting out of the house I discovered I'd buggered up the podcast Hmm and with no 3G signal I couldn't download it again so, luckily, I already had W2 on my iPhone so had to go with that Shock

It was ok! Didn't find it too bad at all, even managed to clock up a speed of 8min/K at one point :)

Ache a lot today though, as I did yesterday, it's mainly my feet and ankles although back is twingy too. Knees don't hurt though so that's a bonus!

I'm loving this running lark, just wish the sun would shine for me on my 5am run. Did see a hare and a rabbit this morning though so that brightened it a little for me.

Dingle · 15/05/2013 09:56

I am due to do w2r2 today but I have been awake most of the night, ache, pounding head, full of cold. I was due to work all day but thought mixing with a room full of pre-schoolers and toddlers was not ideal for anyone so have lost a day's pay. I also had issues with DD's SN transport this morning and to be honest just sat down and cried! Blush

I am trying to dose myself up throughout the day. Would you still attempt at "running!" I don't know how I would cope but will be cross if I don't do it.

Should I take some more gentler form of exercise instead and put it off a day?
