Did you make it peach ????

Well done to A and your DP rhet - they're doing well (and am sure couldn't be done so well without all your support).

So back from trip to town and wander round sweaty Betty although I didn't have much time left on the parking so couldn't spend ages.... Still undecided on what to go for. Choosing between

bag for gym to replace crappy old Kipling rucksack

www.sweatybetty.com/entry-workout-bag-prodwc168_black/

www.sweatybetty.com/statement-down-gym-back-prodba0171_blackcharcoal/

or maybe a vesty type thing as I get too warm in a long sleeve one

www.sweatybetty.com/protector-gilet-prodsbr024_black/ but not sure how much use I'd get out of it....

Or just a couple of tops.... Hmm am sure no one cares but me Grin

ibby I am VH on Peach's facebook

ibbydibby · 05/01/2012 13:46

thanks for facebook info, have sent friend requests so far to peach, fanny and sticky. My initials are SS. Will look for you wheely.

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 05/01/2012 13:52

Good luck peach!

wheely I would go for the gilet - but then I'm famous for having crappy carrier bags for my stuff! Hmm so maybe ignore my advice for sure!

ibby I'm SG. Friends with Peach fanny and sticky Smile.

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 05/01/2012 13:56

Wheely I like the first bag but second looks like it might get a bit manky quite quickly. The gilet is nice. I know what you mean about how much use you would get out of it - I have one that I rarely wear (not nearly as nice as that one) because I worry I will get too hot and not be able to tie it round my waist.

Still v windy here today. I did another heart rate controlled run on the treadmill - only managed to maintain 13.5 min/miles. I think my cold must be affecting things still. Did 4.47 miles in total though so I guess it all counts.

Forgot to take my sports bra with me Shock. Luckily the combination of full-cup (rather than more usual balconette) and built-in bra vest top seemed to be sufficient . I did avoid looking in mirrors though Grin.

Hi 8oreighty I'm sure you will fit right in here.

Wheelybug · 05/01/2012 13:58

LOL shred. thanks for the advice Hmm. I quite like bags... Hence why I think I'm leaning that way. Oh I should just shut up and order something

Wheelybug · 05/01/2012 14:01

Yes I did Think although the gilet
Might be useful would I get £55 worth out of it. A cheap one would probably be more use IYSWIM. The first bag was the one I was originally thinking but then saw the
Other had pockets for wet things ...

Wheelybug · 05/01/2012 14:08

I think I found you ibby... at least I hope I have and you angechica.

Bumply · 05/01/2012 14:11

I did a 6k run on New Year's Day which was very slow due to xmas overindulgence.

On Tue I waited for the wind to die down before doing a 7k run. Good plan as I came across a fallen tree on part of my path. Saw a couple clambering over it from the opposite direction so figured it was ok to pass. Did a high kick to get my leg over (ooer madam) and my glasses promptly slipped off my nose and into the shrubbery of said fallen tree. It took me 30 minutes of scrabbling around to find the damn things as I'm as blind as a bat without them. Finding them when I'd almost given up hope gave me the boost I needed to keep on going.

This morning I was back to work, but managed to get up early enough to do a pre-breakfast 5k. DS1 (13) and his mate (16) were still up (!) and for a few minutes it looked like they were going to join me, until they heard how far I was going and decided it was too much like hard work.

It wasn't too windy when I started, but the wind picked up on the way back and it was SO hard going into the wind. My pace is not fast at the best of times, but it slowed down considerably. At least when you're going uphill you feel justified at going slower (well, I do, don't know about some of you speedy lot) but strangely I couldn't justify going slower into a headwind.

Think I'm ready for my 5k race this weekend. My pace is disturbingly slow at the moment. Not sure if that's because I'm not pushing myself as much as usual, or if it's more difficult to run fast in the cold with the last remnants of my cough. Got my x-ray results which were fine, so can't blame it on a full blown chest infection. Wasn't sure whether to be pleased or cross at losing my excuse. Ho hum.

Keep meaning to pm people so I can join the facebook part of this club.

MorvernCallar · 05/01/2012 14:19

hello runners

really nice to read and enjoy this thread. i've run every day of 2012 so far - wowee! - and am hoping to keep that commitment going as the last few months of 2011 saw little or no running from me. Sad planning to enter a 33-miler in april and a 40-miler in june, so have some serious training to do ... about to get ready to go out now, hopefully won't get blown away by galeforce winds Smile

Bumply · 05/01/2012 14:26

Oh, and thanks to whoever recommended the book 'Run' by Dean Karnazes. I'm really enjoying it.

bonkersLFDT20 · 05/01/2012 14:26

My current bag is the cotton Bookstart one you get free with your baby. One side of one handle fell off so it's attached with safety pins.

Maybe I should use my Griffin Savers sportsbag from the 80s!

I am MAM on FB (profile pic is of my wee boy).

futurity · 05/01/2012 14:43

Ibby sent you FB request

peachsmuggler · 05/01/2012 14:49

I ran, I ran, I ran!!! Grin

ok so here is my first post natal race run report

Squeezed into shock absorber (breathe in!], new trousers, and running top. Realised top was going to ride up and expose midriff so put on a long vest underneath top.

Zoomed (aherm) out door for planned 3 mile route and I managed it!!! First half was ok but second half was quite tough. I really wanted to walk but didn't. It wasn't half windy out there. Had to keep an eye out as branch fell into road beside me and there were wheely bins turned over all over the place! Was rainign for second half as well. Bumped into a playgroup mum about a minute from our house so stopped watch to chat and then started watch to finish last minute. It took 33.57 which isn't brilliant, but am pleased I managed it.

I do feel really quite heavy when running. My muffin top area was really jiggling about (!!!).

Felt great when I got back, so will see how the legs are tomorrow. Will do another 3 miles at the weekend hopefully.

ibby I've accepted you on fb!

wheely, the links just took me to a general page on SB so I couldn;t see the products. I was also thinking about a gilet, but agree maybe a cheap one is best. But then, what are vouchers for, if not treating yourself!

Gotta go, DD2 stirring in pram, need to give it a shove!!!

Catch up properly later

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 05/01/2012 15:08

Have a good run morvern! What training plan are you following?

peach well done UFDT! First one back is always the hardest. I so remember actually still have my post c section belly jiggling away, thank God for tight Lycra I say.

bonkers have been trying to work out who MAM is for ages!

bumply my eyesight is pretty poor, hence the lamp post incident when it was raining the other day. It's something I would love to change about myself.

Well the weather here is crazy, lots of wind and gusty showers but I may go out when DH gets back tonight if it's not too wet. Did Shred 2 and 3 this morning, but really suffering from lethargy on this diet. Have done 2.5 days of the really tough first 4 days, then at least I can up the veg - and introduce limited carbs. I have the worlds worst headache too!

stickyLFDTfingers · 05/01/2012 15:09

yay peach - I think 33:57 is brilliant when you've just come off maternity leave! All the unwanted extra peach will be away very soon at that rate.

bumply Shock at losing your glasses - after a high kick!! The wind definitely makes things harder i think. I find keeping my breathing rhythm tricky.

ibby have accepted, thank you!

I nearly always wear a gilet. I think it was around £30 mark - it was a Christmas present from my Mum and Dad a couple of years ago. It's a Ron Hill one and fab, I've washed it and washed it and it keeps coming up like new.

Now, gotta go shower before picking up girls. Then when I'm back I want a garmin lesson. Today was the first time I've used an advanced workout rather than just letting it record what I do, and I'm a bit Confused as to the results... Anyway, 6 miles done, and felt very good, despite (external) wind!

stickyLFDTfingers · 05/01/2012 15:11

oh sorry hi morvern - sounds like you've got some hard core races coming up. What are they? I've only just started getting into longer runs, it's all new territory to me.

RunningAllDay · 05/01/2012 15:25

Well done peach! Great time, and fantastic that you didn't stop to walk. I have never managed to come back from a break and NOT WALK! Were you pushing DD2 as well?

Hello morvern - sounds hard! Add your races to the list - would love to see what they are. Am doing a 50-mile in April, but am not planning to run it (well, maybe bits, the downhill bits).

Oh dear about your glasses bumply - my DH is the same and I am always tempted to hide his glasses for amusement, but I don't want a divorce yet. Seriously, pleased you found them, as it would have been no fun trying to get back without them.

Does anyone else (especially those ramping up the training) just feel continually generally shit? Before Xmas I was very hungry, like fanny but I realise that I haven't felt really well for ages and ages. Just always a bit tired, a bit headachey, a bit grumpy and looking terrible. Wonder if this is just a side effect of running lots that others also have, or do I need to start back on the iron? I haven't had an alcoholic drink since Xmas Day, and I eat normally. Sorry to hear bout your headache Shred - horrid horrid - headache sympathies from me. Hope your veg helps!

peachsmuggler · 05/01/2012 15:26

bumply, oh dear, poor you with your glasses scrambling! Do you know what the forecast is like for your race?

welcome morvern, you sound like a pretty serious runner, what's your running background, if you don't mind me being nosy!

meant to say, great news on A's weight gain Rhet. DP must be very proud of herself. It's nice to look at them growing and thinking "I did that!". I'm taking my little piggy angel to get weighed next week.

Will also torture self by getting weighed tomorrow when we take DD1 swimming. Have a sneaky suspicion I will have put weight on over Xmas. Can't think why.... Wink

DP in full on new year mode and tidying --rearranging his 6.1 surround sound stereo system.

Put DD2 down to sleep in pram last night at 11 then took carrycot bit off and took upstairs when I went to bed. She woke at 3 and after I fed her I managed to get her back in carrycot with a wee bit if rocking abd then she skept till 6 when she came into bed with me. Weird feeling as was first time in about a month that we haven't co-slept. Of course I was wide awake from 3-6 Hmm. don't really Wang her sleeping full time in carrycot as not sure how suitable it is but might start her off in there in evening and then attempt move to Moses basket when we go to bed. All good though!

Waiting on someone from Samsung calling to arrange to look at fridge freezer. Landlord is pretty diligent fixing things thank god. In meantime keeping milk on window sill. Sigh...

peachsmuggler · 05/01/2012 15:30

Hell no running!!! I wouldn't have got a mile I don't think! The buggy running will have to be built up slowly as I get fitter. Oh go on, hide DH's glasses, he'd be livid amused surely??? Wink

peachsmuggler · 05/01/2012 15:34

Oh yeah fir got to say, few mins into run and I'm thinking "These shoes don't feel that great, must have done more miles in them that I though. Also, they are really dirty!". Realised I had put on 2009 shoes which have Bern consigned to gardening status. Idiot!

Wheelybug · 05/01/2012 15:43

Well done peach. That's amazing given you haven't run for, what ? a year ?

Blinking bag is out of stock. Am going to wait for new season stuff now I think. Out on 11th. Will bore you again on the subject then Grin

squix · 05/01/2012 15:43

Hello - 8oreighty and morven(gulp at the length of your races!)

Peach - well done - what a great start, are you normally quite speedy? I think I've only ever 'known' you whilst you've been pregnant and not really running much.

bonkers - I had a Griffin savers bag too!

Eyebrows - Nothing here - very occasionally pluck the od hair from the middle but they are pretty much OK

Pants - the pair with the highest lycra content I can find.

Wheely I have an old sports bag that I can't remember where it came from or a Tesco bag for life thing that I use. I think if you are going to the Gym lots then a new bag would be nice, I prefer the first one. I have actually found a gillet really useful this year. I found I had 2 longsleeve high vis wind/waterproof jackets, so I cut the sleeves off 1. I find it gives a wee bit of extra protection from the wind without making me too warm.

Someone was looking for kids cake ideas, I think ....Hmmmm...that kid's cake with the crinoline/toilet roll holder skirt has been the height of my cake making skills I'll have you know...Grin. Have a look here for inspiration - the videos are quite easy to follow, dd loves watching them!

40 mins of intervals today (10 mins of warm up then 4 times 3 mins @ 10k or 5k pace if I am feeling brave, 2 mins recovery , then steady 10 mins then 5 mins jog to cool down) - was very windy. One of my intervals I managed to maintain sub 8 min mile - but it was down hill and the wind was behind me. Going back up the hill into the wind was a different story.

peachsmuggler · 05/01/2012 15:56

Damn them wheely!!! haven't run properly in a year though did piss about a bit when first pg with DD2 though managed once a week, if that.

squix, no am not the speedy type! Would normally, in training, run 10min miles for anything over 5 miles, 9.30 for 4 miles, and 9 for 3 miles. If I can get back to 10 min miles for any distance at moment I'll be happy! Well done on your run, especially downhill mile!

rhetorician · 05/01/2012 16:02

hi morven (is that after the Alan Warner book, or the film?) welcome - excited because there's another streaker on the thread.

Huge well done to peach - I think that's a pretty good pace for what? 6 weeks post-partum

Did 7k in gym, just under 10 m/m pace, ave HR 148. So was thrilled with that. It was full of a football team of lads when I got there (about 18-19, at a guess). Pongy...

ibbydibby · 05/01/2012 17:52

Now bracing myself for running club; the wind has dropped but still howling outside, and the odd shower of rain thrown in for good measure. DS1 has something on at school tonight, so can drop him off just before running, then collect him at 8.15 (have warned him that I will appear in running kit..)

Well done Peach, great time, and good for you for getting yourself out to do it - the weather is not exactly encouraging...roll on spring!

Running was wondering if you were anaemic then read back through your post and saw that you mentioned taking iron...may be worth getting your blood checked to see.

Morvern your races sound really hardcore.

Am getting in FB frenzy. Futurity are you CB? Bonkers, I can't find any MAMs anywhere.....I am SS and now friend of several....pic is of me in running vest and number, schmoozling(?) up to DH after recent race..
