Will post the race list later on computer.
Come one, come all. We are a band of maverick posters who run, talk about running, and talk about other stuff, mostly life, large pants, and questionable children's artwork. Come and join us if you dare! Disclaimer: we are actually the friendliest thread on MN. Fact.

Lovely news badger and well done on keeping up the exercise!

Rhet, lovely story. About your DP not your mum Hmm. Lol at there being no lesbians in Dublin. Your mum is mad and may never come round, but hey, there's not a lot you can do. You are a very dutiful and forgiving daughter in a situation where a lot of people would have told her where to go by now. Maybe when DD's are a wee bit older and can interact with her more (phone calls etc), she will realise that they are her family. Hope so anyway.

How dramatic about your DH, sfx!

peachsmuggler · 08/01/2012 16:17

Oof, apologies for ghastly use of ' in DDs (pedant!)

sticky, yes, I'll be meeting myself on the way out the door! Grin

stickyLFDTfingers · 08/01/2012 16:23

Grin peach that'd be a bit Hermione Grainger!

Actually, I have it on good authority that there are no lesbians in Ireland. I was told this by one of my fellow (Irish) students when I started on the LLM in Dublin. rhet and her DP are merely figments of our collective imagination.

DebiTheScot · 08/01/2012 16:32

Entertaining story sfx Grin
Well done of getting out again peach
Wow what a great 10k time running, esp when u hoped for 52 mins.
Great run from you too bumply, running up Arther's seat must have been hard going.

Wheelybug · 08/01/2012 16:37

great run and report running!

Sorry should have commented earlier but am getting v confused flicking between here and FB.

DebiTheScot · 08/01/2012 16:39

Great news badger, glad everything is good. Smile

Only one more day rhet, you can do it!

I had a great run with a friend this afternoon. I always run on my own so it was really nice to have company. We did 4.3 miles in 40 mins which worked out about 9.40 m/m. That's about 30-40 secs per mile slower than I usually run for that distance but after doing some research on dealing with shin splints I had an epiphany that if I want to increase distance without injuring myself I need to slow down. And I felt great after that run, felt like I could have easily done another couple of miles whereas usually I push myself and am puggled by the end.

orangeLFDThead · 08/01/2012 16:41

Glad all well badger.
Lots of lovely stories.
First meet dh when he was a baby and I was 6 Blush our families were friends and I always thought of him as an annoying kid. He was a guest at my 1st wedding to ex, he was 13 and apparently fancied me but of course I didn't know and would not of cared if I did. Sort of lost contact with them then when ex left I got a council house round the corner from his mum and dads, he still lived at home. So all of them gave me alot of support, he was very good with the boys and we were quite good friends. After about a year I started to realise I had feelings for him which was quite strange as I knew him as a kid. About 6 months after that we got together.

backwardLFDTpossom · 08/01/2012 17:23

shred funny you should ask, I met OH exactly 12 years ago today in a pub. :)

peachsmuggler · 08/01/2012 17:34

sfx, are there any running shops in Kingston? Am heading down tomorrow as have pretty much no trousers that fit (normal not running) but if there's a running shop might have a mosey for winter tops.

futurity · 08/01/2012 17:44

DH and I met at university in 1993 - he was making dance music and needed a singer and my friend offered her services. It was her birthday party and he was there and so was I....I was drunk and sat on his lap and said "you're cuddly" and that was it! I was 18 and he was 22 and we got married 2 years later, 2 months after I left university. Actually just worked out that soon we will have been together 18 years...makes me feel OLD!

Wheelybug · 08/01/2012 17:48

Ahhh lovely stories.

Peach - there is a running shop over kigston bridge in Hampton wick - lanson running , about 10 mins max from john Lewis. Turned right at roundabout on otherside of river and its on that road on the right. Otherwise for tops john Lewis has a small but decent sport dept .

sfxmum · 08/01/2012 17:51

Peach I think wheely would be best placed to answer that, to the best of my recollection there is a specialist on eat Hampton Wick, in Kingston itself I only now a the usual high street non specialist type and both John Lewis plus Huuse of Fraser in the Bentalls centre have reasonable selection

sfxmum · 08/01/2012 17:56

X-post with wheely there, my main interests in Kingston are the Montezuma chocolate shops and Heal's Blush

peachsmuggler · 08/01/2012 18:05

Thanks! Willcheck it out if I have time. Mmmmm montezumas...

RunningAllDay · 08/01/2012 18:50

Lordy, don't think I can do MN and FB. Now I can see why you're all confused! Well done peach on improvement in 2 days!

Checked my results and came 250th out of 475. Think I am pleased - wish i had been higher than halfway, but still over the moon with my time. Fastest man was 31 mins and fastest woman 39 mins. Eek.

Yes, my friend has a screw loose - but am pleased she does as otherwise I would never have even tried 8 m/m over that distance and would have gone conservatively with 8.23. She managed to lose her chip off her shoe and so her time isn't even registered. Not her lucky day.

So, now, where's ibby?

futurity · 08/01/2012 18:58

Right..finally got a battery back in my HRM for my Garmin 305 and it works. Rhet...you know about these things I believe...do I have to put in my Max Heart Rate in or will it use that 220 minus age thing (which I heard was unreliable?).

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 08/01/2012 19:38

Goodness me, you ravers are determined to make me feel inadequate! Where has all this running mojo come from?

Laughing at all these lovely meeting stories, especially there being no lesbians in Dublin and the thought of poor Rhet being the only gay in the village. DH and I had a Nigerian chap on our SF course, who told us with a dead straight face that it was actually not possible for a Nigerian man to be gay. We all fell about laughing as he was a brilliant joker and great at telling stories with a dead straight face before realising to our horror that this time he actually meant it. Whoops!

ibbydibby · 08/01/2012 19:39

I'm here.....

Well done bumply and running, loved reading your reports. Bumply love the sound of your race. Nothing like that down our way....Running well done on your time, am v envious - hopefully next time you will go under 50 minutes.

Mine was an afternoon cross-country race (6k), with ladies going first, and then men half an hour later. (The blokes did one more lap than the women). Not that many people there, and the male/female split meant it looked even sparser. Think there were no more than 50 female runners (maybe fewer). So, shot off far too quickly - checked my watch soon after starting, and it was registering a pace of 6.5 minute miles, not good. I reigned it in a bit, but the speedy start really took it out of me. I usually make huge efforts not to start too hastily. Realised that cross-country is v different kettle of fish to road-running - v uneven ground littered with rabbit holes, mole hills and tree roots.

Doing laps meant that I passed DH and DCs 3 times, which was great as they cheered me on. First lap was ok, second lap harder and by the 3rd round I was knacekered. Finished in (I think) just under 34 minutes. Not sure of winners time, so no was of assessing how badly/well I did at present. Am just relieved that I got round ok. Exhausted now! Don't think I will be taking up cross-country as an additional hobby, but may have a go now and then..

First met DH in 1989 (am old biddy) at a walking club(!). Was v scared of him as he was 7 years older than (well he still is, obv) so did much to him. He organised some badminton sessions for the club, and I went along, then he asked if I wanted to join a group of them who played regularly every week. Thought he was inviting out of politeness/making up numbers. So started this, and he used to drop me home afterwards, I would just make stupid inane conversation. Then he said he would be close to near where I work one day and did I want to meet for lunch....then we went to the theatre, and he gave me a goodnight peck on the cheek.....that was 1990. Married in 1993.

fishie · 08/01/2012 20:01

lovely race report bumply. going out this morning, found phone dead killed by moshling play. luckily dh made me take his as then the ipod ran out, it is a new shuffle and it is shit comaored to old one. so I had his music too, v odd. and I am still not recovered from illness, finding it very frustrating. sluggish all the time.

fishie · 08/01/2012 20:12

back to say i met dh in pub because my dog liked him. He left his friends and came back to my parents house and we stayed up all night talking. took dog for walk at dawn who rushed back and roused my parents, then dragged them out to find me. oops. 5am.

Wheelybug · 08/01/2012 20:35

Well done ibby sounds a tough race !

ibbydibby · 08/01/2012 20:42

ummm "did much to him" should read "didn't speak much to him" before you are all speculating about what I did....

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 08/01/2012 20:50

Well done ibby sounds like a good fun race - but yes, cross country is definitely harder going.

RunningAllDay · 08/01/2012 20:56

Well done ibby sounds tough.

stickyLFDTfingers · 08/01/2012 21:16

well done ibby! Hopefully the next run you do will seem easier for not having rabbit holes and tree roots to contend with.
