DrNortherner best of luck for PB
AngeChica Southwould reminds me of good times at Latitude

monkey I am watching the Killing as well, I don't really watch remakes on principle very seldom an improvement
loved The Wire and I wish I could convert more people to proper sci fi
Battlestar Gallactica the newer version was amazing

fannybanjo · 19/11/2011 22:07

orange I'm so sorry you're having a bad day and you can moan all the fuck you want. You have earned the privilege. It must be tough having to deal with what you have to, there's no respite from it. Hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

rhet only watched 3 episodes of Sopranos, it's not drawn me in as The Wire did. DH and I watched 2 episodes every night until we finished the box set. Omar the best character ever. Grin hope DP not too fed up.

Thanks all for your wishes.

Good luck to me arl mucker DrNo - you can get that PB girl.

Thankyou

monkeyLFDTwench · 19/11/2011 22:09

orange an old friend of mine has a son with some degree of autism (not completely diagnosed I think, BUT he has a statement so they at least get extra help at school) and is completely bowel incontinent. He's 8, how old is your ds? At one stage they saw Tanya Byron as it was thought his problem was psychological, but it seems now to be accepted it's far more complicated.

Can't remember if I told you but ds2 suffers very badly with tummy cramps and diarrhoea. We had a soiling stage too, but luckily that seems to have passed. Now we just get him in pain after eating, and pebbledashing the toilet. We've seen various doctors over the last 4 years, and now a gastroenterologist next Tuesday. At the moment the main contenders seem to be coeliac disease or IBS. It's utterly fucking depressing, and you have my absolute sympathy Sad.

rhetorician · 19/11/2011 22:10

orange rant away - it sounds tough...will the specialist address this too, or will you have to co-ordinate it yourself?

ibby they are impressive goals - mine are on the old thread and I've already forgotten half of them Blush I think it was

5k - sub 25 (realistically sub 28!)
10k - sub 1 hour
half - sub 2.05
marathon - finish alive!

these goals are pretty ambitious given my current paces

ibby your evening sounds fun - I was thinking of doing a gingerbread house with DD next Christmas - she'll be nearly 4 and capable of at least minimal self-restraint

fannybanjo · 19/11/2011 22:12

My brother was seriously ill with Crohns Disease as a young boy - its no laughing matter having colon or bowel problems. My mum used to have to clean his poo of the walls. So depressing. I hope both your DS's get sorted.

Thanks for explaining what Shred is. The word doesn't make sense to me though. I only know the term as used in bioinformatics and I'm pretty sure it doesn't mean that!

Anyway, I don't like doing fitness stuff at home - I run outside and that's it.
So there.

sfxmum · 19/11/2011 22:15

orange I am sorry you are feeling low this I imagine it is hard to cope at times. I worked with adults within the spectrum and as you likely know the range is so wide it is not always a given, but there is an increased likelihood of gastrointestinal problems. I'd agree with the sensory aspect, from my experience it is a big factor in all manner of behaviours. I do hope you get decent help and support

monkeyLFDTwench · 19/11/2011 22:16

Oh sfx I love reading sci-fi. My brother raves about BG.

Also loved Game of Thrones recently and am reading the series.

rhetorician · 19/11/2011 22:17

found it the other way round - had to work a bit harder to get into The Wire, somehow, but loved it when I did.

Sympathy with the bowel issues - DD1 has been on movicol since just over a year old - we are down to very small doses now, but it's hard to get the dosing right. It's not at all the same as with an older child where their feelings come into it too, but it was horrible to see her distressed. Luckily, potty training seems to have helped. monkey hope you get some answers - Ireland has more coeliacs per capita than almost anywhere else, so almost all supermarkets have a large, if pricey, selection of gluten free stuff. Apparently it's because traditionally wheat wasn't grown or eaten here - barley and oats, plus meat and milk - so Irish guts can't always cope with gluten as it only became a central part of people's diets after the famine. Sorry - nerdy of me.

stickyLFDTfingers · 19/11/2011 22:17

orange you moan all you want. You can't moan in RL, so here is going to have to do! It must be very tough, picking yourself back up again. Hugs.

So best of luck to all the racers: Tulip27, fanny, DrNo and Ange. Give 'em hell! (needed a change from LFDT). Looking forward to the race reports and knob counts already Grin

If I stick to here, the Durham gang (very very lovely people!) and my book swap club (also lovely, and I get chocolate every month!) then I think MN is all fine and dandy. But can't help myself from nosing on other threads from time to time. It's an insight into human nature, if nothing else...

sfxmum · 19/11/2011 22:21

sticky I have been around here for nearly 7yrs and I will never forget the first time I was shouted at, the poster is still around, totally shrieking even in writing seemed like a toddler having a tuntrum

stickyLFDTfingers · 19/11/2011 22:26

sfx it's weird, isn't it, that grown up people (or so-called) can behave like that? But then, I have relatives that can do that shrieking thing in RL Confused. It's scary, but it serves as a reminder as to why I like my friends (ooh look, you're not totally insane, what a breath of fresh air Wink)

fannybanjo · 19/11/2011 22:28

Oh my Shred DVD arrived today! bonkers I think it means shredded like ripped with muscles...?! Grin. I'm a bit like you - rubbings my main love but I'm open for a bit of the Natalie and Jillian.

rhet oh yes took a couple if episodes for The Wire to get me hooked but what with being an illiterate scouser Wink, I kind of understood the lingo as a lot of it is similar to scouse slang really.

monkey you MUST buy your DH The Wire box set. It's the dogs bollocks and I don't watch much TV as I'm easily distracted so I should know!

noshi ah bless the little dog coming with you! Are you worried how he'll cope with the flight?

OP posts:
orangeLFDThead · 19/11/2011 22:29

monkey he is 8 also. A few years back they thought he had coeliac's but most of his other symptoms seemed to have gone now just left with the accidents. Hope you get your ds sorted soon.
I will probably have to co-ordinate myself as I have had to push for everything, they don't make it easy. He was also on movicol for many years and that just made him worse.
Just been advised on another thread to try gluten and caesin free diet. Thats ging to take some getting my head round

backwardLFDTpossom · 19/11/2011 22:30

rubbings my main love but I'm open for a bit of the Natalie and Jillian.

Shock

Lordy, fanny

stickyLFDTfingers · 19/11/2011 22:31

rubbing is your main love Fanny? You sure you don't mean ironing? Grin

fannybanjo · 19/11/2011 22:32

Ah fuckity mcfuck I meant running. GrinBlush RUNNING is my main love.

OP posts:
rhetorician · 19/11/2011 22:32

I think she means running, lol...

stickyLFDTfingers · 19/11/2011 22:33

darn you, I've never seen The Wire. I'm here for the running (and rubbing Wink), not to buy lots of DVDs

rhetorician · 19/11/2011 22:33

fanny even when you aren't trying to be rude, you manage it - it's that effing i-phone wotsit of yours...

fannybanjo · 19/11/2011 22:33

Love how bonkers is also a fan of rubbing according to moi!

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 19/11/2011 22:35

I type so damn quick on it, I don't notice the typos and it spellchecks bloody correct words. However what is worrying is that mine recognises swear words now and even corrects them for me...

OP posts:
bonkersLFDT20 · 19/11/2011 22:35

Fanny Rubbings eh?! Bet you're not talking about brass rubbing either, are you.

[impersonation of Fanny] "I'm just off for a rub, see you later". She then returns looking rather sweaty and breathless.
