Anyone want to join me? It means we should start 2012 being able to run 5k - now there's an incentive to stick with it.

musttidyupmusttidyup · 09/01/2012 18:57

That's the kind of fighting spirit we like to hear kickass!

golemmings · 09/01/2012 22:26

Kickass I love your ambition. You go girl. Take as long as you need to get to where you want to go and you'll get there. Just don't lose sight of the destination.

That other thread I mentioned is here

Tidy I'm impressed at 3 babies in 3 1/2 years. I did 2 in 2.2 but I'm not planning on squeezing in a third, I can tell you!
I'm thinking about 30day shred to tone everything up a bit. Its currently reduced to a fiver on Amazon. Its supposed to be a killer but effective and complements c25k very well.

bugrit how was week 6?

OP posts:
musttidyupmusttidyup · 10/01/2012 07:23

go I've got the shred still in its cellophane hiding in a drawer where it's been for 6 months. Not sure I can committ to every day. Would it work 3x a week or so do you think?

ohbugrit · 10/01/2012 07:44

Morning all.

kickass you sound like you have the right attitude, I'm sure you'll really enjoy this when you get going.

W6r1 was yesterday morning and i was a bit apprehensive about it because reading the NHS forum it seems that it's often a bit tough. In fact it was good, it wasn't such a mental challenge as the 20 minutes was last week, and I felt fab afterwards. Looking forward to run 2 tomorrow.

I've shredded before. Never for the full month! But it's really good for a quick 20 minute blast. I think to have a good effect on the upper body you'd need hand weights - I use tins of plum tomatoes or bottles of olive oil Grin but i think to complement running I would want to up the ante on the upper body side of it.

kickassangel · 11/01/2012 19:03

is the stuff about the knees getting hurt true about the shred?

I have very dodgy knees, but like the idea of something that makes me sweat loads then I'm done in 20 mins

golemmings · 11/01/2012 20:28

W6r1 today. Ballsed it up somewhat. I made the mistake of trying to coordinate it with other things so was going to go when DH came back from school at 4 and come home via the docs to get a prescription, the chemist to get it made up and then the vets for the cat's drugs. All got hijacked slightly by DH'a head teacher who wanted to have an induction meeting with him after school and he didn't get home until 10 to 5. I was unreasonably pissed about this and sent him to do the errands and left to go for my run.

I left in such a hurry that I have no idea which session I started but the first run only lasted a minute. And I have no idea what the pace counter was set to. And the music wasn't shuffling. So I did the entire session to Heaven 17 Temptation with an alarm bleeping at me for going too slowly.

I made it all worse because I was convinced it was 2 lots of 10 minutes so I ran most of the first walk and I was over half way through before I conceded o might be wrong and I may have set it to the right session.

Basically I went for a run which didn't really resemble w6r2 at all. The good news is that I covered over 3.5km and my final interval was sub 6 minute/kmpace. Not clocked that speed since the 90 second runs in week 3 (but it was down hill!)

It's a bit warm out there too. I need to ditch the thermal I fear which might bring back winter. Ho hum...

OP posts:
ohbugrit · 11/01/2012 23:53

Well done go, seriously frustrating but that's an impressive pace going on there! It's all good, if a bit maddening when everything goes wrong.

Shred makes all of me hurt, kick, it doesn't seem to be specific!

I did w6r2 tonight and it was a brilliant run, really enjoyed it, managed a 10 minute mile and am now injured :(. Stupid dog ran under my feet so i stood on him then kneed him really hard in the head. My knee is like a football now, although not sore, so here's hoping it's going to be gone by morning. Dog seems fine but I've given him a dose of anti-inflammatory meds anyway because it has got to be painful! Stupid mutt!

Wild and windy tonight, you lot being blown away too?

ohbugrit · 11/01/2012 23:55

Also, I managed 4.5k in 31 minutes - I can almost touch 5k, feels ace!

kickassangel · 11/01/2012 23:59

I messed up mine too by nissing the first instruction then messing around with knee support thing. Thought about redoing it on fri but decided that I'm finding it quite eas ATM so will push on and pick up the pace.

I can't remember if my treadmill is in k or m, I fear k, so I'm doing quite a slow pace, but able to coir so will build up stamina before working in pace.

golemmings · 12/01/2012 08:50

Looks like we all had a bit of a hit and miss day :0
bugrit OWW. That sounds really painful for you both. Hope its better today. 10 minute mile sounds blooming fast actually. Well done you!

kick glad you're not finding it too difficult. I think the biggest steps are all

OP posts:
golemmings · 12/01/2012 08:54

Mental; its when you look at the next week and say "20 minutes; I can't do that" that it becomes hard. From reading this thread, and others I haven't seen anyone who believed that they could do it, fail. The people who haven't completed seem to be those who don't believe that they can. Or those for whom rl gets in the way.

OP posts:
musttidyupmusttidyup · 12/01/2012 15:53

Once you're past that 20 minute run you're over the worst IMO.

ohbugrit · 12/01/2012 19:30

tidy, how did you find week 6 r3? It's on my to do list for tomorrow but right now I'm in bed, achy and my skin is crawling :(

DD did a DD special last night so I was in bed at 11, up at 1ish IIRC and then up at 4 for the day. Hoping some sleep is forthcoming tonight and I'll feel less crappy tomorrow.

I definitely agree that stamina is the priority with c25k - it's designed to teach you to run longer, not faster. I think too fast a pace might be the culprit of some failed attempts at it. And yes, it feels much more mental now than it did initially - I guess we have confidence in our bodies now, it's been proven, we just need to reinforce that when we're challenged. (Get me, sports psychologist extraordinaire!)

musttidyupmusttidyup · 12/01/2012 21:52

I was dreading it but it was ok. Found the first 10 mins a struggle but then got into my stride. It feels like you can really get your teeth into it.
Hope you get a better night tonight bugrit Sad

kickassangel · 13/01/2012 00:06

Also had a non sleeping dd so glad it was my rest day today. Will be going to bed early then plan to do w2r2 in the morning

musttidyupmusttidyup · 13/01/2012 07:07

For the first time ever DD (10 months) has slept through! Twice in a row! Maybe she knows Mummy starts week 9 tonight Grin

ohbugrit · 13/01/2012 08:43

tidy wanna swap? Grin

musttidyupmusttidyup · 13/01/2012 18:40
Grin OMG I can hardly believe it! W9R1 done! 30 mins! 4.8 km so need to speed up a bit to cover 5k which I am determined to do by the end of W9. Am back at work 2 days a week following a year off on mat leave. Got changed for run after work then drove to collect DH and the 2 younger DCs from nursery then DH drove home with the DCs and I ran home. So, I found myself far (ish) from home, 5 min warm up completed and just starting to run when omfg I realised I'd forgotten to put my sports bra on. Now. I'm not small in that dept and am still Bf the DD so bounced my big 36G bad boys for 4.8 km. Blush and Grin.
kickassangel · 13/01/2012 22:18

Congratulations. With the sports bra on you can prob speed up that bit that you need

I was surviving on migraine tablets today so managed to get through w2r2 but only just. Still, I hope that I can do it again tomorrow. Came home from work and slept for an hour so feeling a bit better now

golemmings · 13/01/2012 22:42

I think we're all in the wars a bit at the moment. I tried goats cheese yesterday (been dairy free due to ds's reflux since early november). I remembered at 3 am just why I gave up dairy. ds was unhappy and uncomfortable from midnight till 3 and I spent the early hours wandering around the house with him.

Too tired today to achieve anything useful. Went on the village walk though so still covered about 5k, but failed to clean/tidy the house, go for a run or anything else. It will all have to be done tomorrow. And we need to buy dad's christmas present (its a food hamper hence we didn't give it to him at christmas in hospital) so tomorrow will be busy busy. Time for bed I think.

OP posts:
ohbugrit · 14/01/2012 05:01

Nothing to report on the running front because I've hot some sort of virus/chest thing and i feel rotten. DD is also being a PITA st night.

Well.done tidy, so close! I agree, who knows what you could achieve without the, er, mammary action!

Hope the migraine clears off kick

So much sympathy go, the fug of exhaustion is awful. It makes doing tiny stuff so hard. Can you award yourself a duvet afternoon maybe, some dvds and chocolate? Yesterday I lay on the sofa groaning while DS watched a film and DD napped. It was good. Really hope you're catching up on sleep as I write thos.

golemmings · 14/01/2012 23:41

Oh bugrit, I do hope you feel better soon. 5am is a rubbish time to be up. Was that your dd? How old is she?

Hope you feel better too kick.

I got a lie in this morning so the world is a much nicer place. DH and ds went into town and bought the perishable bits of dad's Christmas present. Dd and I stayed at home, failed to achieve any progress on potty training but cleaned the house.

And I gotto do w6r2. It was such a stunning day. I ran a longer circuit because I was beginning to run out of road using my old loop. New one is mostly out of town and goes around the edge of the local hill but at some height so there's a pigging big hill but stunning views across the valley. Especially on a cold, crisp clear day like today.

Only managed to cover 3.5k which was a bit disappointing but the intervals were 6.27 and 6.06 minutes/km. Page alarm completely buggered and went off continuously when wet to 6.30. Shuffle still a bit flakey; it shuffled 4 songs. Better than the one song it kept repeating the other day.

Off to dad's tomorrow to take him roast lunch which will be lovely. Then w6r3 on Monday. Possibly while dd is at her gym class. She's just started lazy town sports club. Because its something that will wear her out on a Monday but she seems to enjoy it.

OP posts:
kickassangel · 15/01/2012 01:34

Migraine big time and spent the day in bed. Tomorrow dd has tennis for an hour and a half at the gym so I can run then have a sauna

ohbugrit · 15/01/2012 03:02

Yikes kick, hope bed did the trick and you're fine tomorrow.

What a fab run, go, and fast too! That's what a lie in does, obviously sleeping is recharging :)

I'm on the mend but haven't been up to running yet, cold weather + asthma + bad chest = bad. Maybe tomorrow!

DD is 16 months and a joy (in the daytime)!

golemmings · 15/01/2012 06:41

Poor you kick. Hope you're feeling better today. Sauna sounds like a nice, relaxing thing to do.

Bugrit - 3am? Dd again? The middle of the night stuff is wearing isn't it. Hope it all gets better soon. Take it easy. Don't you go running until you're pretty much sorted. Doing bad things to your asthma would be a bad thing indeed.
