rhet Grin. Hey ŵe should get belts made with Let's fucking do it, that'd set the cat among the pigeons!

fannyletsfookingdothisbanjo · 09/11/2011 21:50

Oh my god, my iPad has gone nuts! Where did the random £&@ee come from?!

AngeChica · 09/11/2011 21:56

i came to mark my place and there are already 200 posts! is it ok to add my runs to the list? this is already doing wonders for my knowledge and motivation. :) I need to choose an 18 week marathon training plan quite soon... I have been reading up about this FIRST method when you can do it on 3 training runs a week which is appealing to fit into my life! entry level is to be able to run 10 miles... that's about my outer limit at the mo! My dad is kind of my running guru; he was very old school though and just did 2 or 3 really long runs a week; no speed work or intervals or owt like that though.

monkeyLFDTwench · 09/11/2011 22:04

So tragic am watching TOWIE ... you can take the girl out of Harlow ....

bonkersLFDT20 · 09/11/2011 22:09

Yes Jez you may call be bonk though bonkers rather than bonking seems to feature more highly in my life at the moment...sigh.

Town run and flat you say? You respond to the crowd buzz you say? You can train 5 times and week you say?

Well, I think you'll be fine. Just run a little further each time you train and make sure you have some good rest days to recover. 10 min miles is a very decent pace for a first 10K. You'll be in with the runners that's for sure.

rhet Nice belt story. My own special moment came after I'd given a lecture to a bunch of Masters students. They're all sitting, I'm standing. Only afterwards did I realise that my flies were undone revealing my saucy red lucky knickers (equivalent of LFDT for giving lectures).

peachLFDTsmuggler · 09/11/2011 22:13

DrNo, what an arse your DH's boss is!!! Sympathy on the stuuuuullllle sample collection!

monkey, am Shock at your SIL's employer. What an utter lack of respect for a human being, particularly one who has given them 20 years. Glad you are on the case, give em hell!!!

Welcome jez, welcome done on getting to 3 miles. I would say you only need to get to 5 before the race bit go easy when you are adding mileage to avoid injury. Run 3 or 4 times a week and cross train the other day maybe? Most of all enjoy your first 10k and don't worry too much about time. Smile

fanny, how awesome if you do get to go to Nooo Yoik! So lovely in December! Had to laught at your "hairdryer" moment telling off the speed-phobics. You can be Coach Rhet's, scary sidekick!!!

Rhet, lol at belt, you rock!!

Debi, like fanny said don't get caught up worrying about average
speed, just try and add another half mile at the pace you are aiming for and then another half when comfortable.

I am extreaaaaamly lucky in that DP usually gets home about 6 so does bath while I nod off on sofa reegain my equilibriumnod after a day alone with DD and then we do stories altogether. Not sure how this will all work when DD2 arrives as if she is anything like DD she will spend the early evening in a feeding frenzy!!

Speaking of whom, she has of course been superactive today. Am amazed I am still awake at 10pm having been up since 4am. Perhaps it is cos DP is now finished work and I am able to sleep at night safe in the knowledge that if I awake for hours I can still afternoon nap like a wrong'un the next day. Mwah ha ha.

Right, must go sleep. Have to digest the kilo of gruffallo crumble I have just consumed. Apologies for lack of spell check. Hope it all makes sense!

P.s glad your cousin on good form today fanny.

monkeyLFDTwench · 09/11/2011 22:19

Anyone else getting scared fanny and Rhet are going to goodcop/badcop us?

cestlavie · 09/11/2011 22:24

Sounds like your DS is toiling DrNo - hope the poor lad feels better soon. Hate those 'discussions' with your partner about whose day has more important stuff they need to be in work for... Sounds like your DH's boss is a right idiot.

Well impressed by that photo fanny, that is so bloody LFDT... can imagine you in some Schwarzenegger-esque film with a fuck off huge machine gun, screaming while you mow down lines of bad guys...

wheely/monkey am also vaguely trying to tempt DW into number three. Think we both have a similar dilemma which is whilst a third would be lovely, going back to the world of bedtime and no sleep fiascos isn't super appealing... (Ooops! Sorry peaches, sure you'll have a sleeper!)

Sounds like toilet training at nursey still hard work rhet - good luck with it all mate.

Into the world of moving hell tomorrow. DW at work so I'll be up to my ears in boxes and bedlam. Already got an overwhelming desire to pull on my running shoes and disappear for the morning with a water bottle whilst leaving the cat to pack....! We shall also have no broadband from tomorrow and, gulp, no TV for several days - I've tried to gently explain this to DS but he has this sort of shocked, glazed look in his eyes when I tell him in the same way that a normal person might have if told an asteroid the size of China was hurtling towards earth and we were standing on ground zero... Poor lad.

Happy running all in the meantime!

fannyletsfookingdothisbanjo · 09/11/2011 23:09

wench 10 LAPS AROUND THE PARK at 7m/m!!! Yes, I am scary and my friend calls me "Da Boss" however I'm not quite Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2 quite yet (as Cest would have you believe!). Rhet will be getting shouted at in equal measures. I'm fed up of you all making excuses! You're going to have to man up! I want you all to do at least one session a week where you push yourselves out of comfort zone for 5 mins. Zone out, concentrate on breathing and FUCKING DO IT!

Cest I empathise as we've moved 5 times in 10 years. Cats, unfortunately, are shite at packing. Machine guns were packed by moi in this house. Have to laugh at that comment as DH taking me clay pigeon shooting soon, you never know, I may find I am a dab hand with a shotgun... Good luck tomorrow with packing.

peach I know, it'd be ace to go to NYC but whether it'll come off...

Ange can't see link as on my phone - can you only manage 3 runs a week? Ah bless your dad being your guru and nowt wrong with old school training!

Hatwoman · 09/11/2011 23:46

good kick up the bum for us all fanny. I needed that.

I committed my schedule to paper/computer screen today. Minimum 1xhill session, 1 x speed session, 1 steady (possibly the same route with a view to improving the time) and 1 long.

Does anyone know if - as I suspect - 3 or 4 miles of pushing (speed/fartleks/hills) is worth more than 5 miles of plodding? What about 2 short pushy seessions (say 30 minutes) compared with 1 x 5 miles? I'm hoping to make more efficient use of my shorter runs.

welcome jezebel - you do know we won't let you leave?

newsflash - I have taken the first step towards half-loaning a pony today. I can't quite believe it - but found out recently it would cost less than I currently spend on dd2's (frankly ridiculous) gymnastics - and possibly less time too. So we're going to see the pony on Sunday. I'm kind of hoping it's big enough for me to ride her too. and I've also been wondering (seeing as loaning 2 horses is unlikely to be feasible) if I could run alongside dd as she rides...

Hatwoman · 09/11/2011 23:50

Hmm just googled - a slow trot is 5 mph (= 12 min miles) and a slow canter is 10 mph. as I suspected I could keep up with a trot but the canter would leave me standing.

Hatwoman · 09/11/2011 23:51

I also suspect the people at the stables would think I was nuts.

monkeyLFDTwench · 10/11/2011 07:23
WishIwasCherryMenlove · 10/11/2011 09:38

fanny your photos are great. You should teach BMF!

Monkey et al, made it home ok through the rioting students. I work near moorgate tube so that's where the march ended up. Sort of weird because there was an eery silence for an hour when they had stopped the traffic, and then suddenly loads of noise/sirens/whistles etc. I was watching a bit of BBCnews on my computer and you could see my office from where they were broadcasting, which was quite surreal. By the time I made it out there were just a few loitering lefties and loads police vans left.

monkey also it is the striders club I have been going to. There are some super serious fast runners but they are quite good at catering for beginners too. They have recently had a 6 week start running program for new people which culminated in a specially organised 5k timed race for the new people Thought it was a really good approach especially in comparison to the club i used to go to in London which seemed to think slow/new people were a hindrance.

I might make it next Tuesday (not sure though with DP's work schedule), will let you know if you fancy trying it out Wink

Oh, and the striders are allegedly going to start organising Parkruns in Verulam Park in January - hurrah!

Just been for a big swim, working at home today, going to tuck myself into bed with a nice big file ofdocuments to read and a coffee and homemade choc brownie

lastly, hat, hope the pony loan goes well, you should definitely try running with it!

MoshiMoshi · 10/11/2011 10:39

Marking place (sounds like am dog Grin!) No time to read. Missing you all. Running here and there. LFDT etc etc.

bonkersLFDT20 · 10/11/2011 10:52

hat Yes, I'd say the shorter, harder sessions are more beneficial than a 5 mile plod. At least that's what I tell myself when I'm running like something possessed through the village.

June2009 · 10/11/2011 11:30

heya jus checking in, hoping to be able to catch up on the (new, "LFDT" ;)) thread at the weekend. Been running twice a week, sprints on thursdays (that's tonight yay!) and 5k on sundays.

My next event (27/11) is a bodycombat challenge (3 hours non stop) for breast cancer, so not running.
speak soon!

Jezabelle · 10/11/2011 16:26

Bonk, thanks, that's reasuring.

Peach, I think you make a valid point about enjoying the race and not getting too obsessed with speed. I think I'll aim to run it in a managable 75 minutes and not beat myself up about it. There's no point in pushing myself too hard and getting injured. I'd be far more likely to stop running altogether then, and I sort of hoped that I might keep it up and do a half marathon in the spring. Oh, and what exactly is cross training? Blush. I'm so new to all this! Like the idea of doing something on my days off.

I think I'm deffinately going to do alternate days, (running and rest) until the race, and build up by 0.25 miles each run which'll get me to 5 miles before the race.

I'll be running tomorrow morning before DH goes to work.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 10/11/2011 16:48

Hi Jez, 75 mins sounds manageable, yes. I did my first 10k in 77 mins and think I was running twice a week. I think the most I ran before the race was 5 miles. Crosstraining just means doing some other physical activity such as swimming, cycling etc. It will help with your running as your fitness will improve but you won't be using the exact same muscles/joints in same way and so less likely to injure yourself.Smile

rhetorician · 10/11/2011 18:05

hatwoman I run in a very large park, where there are army barracks and also where the police horses are stabled, so I regularly pass trotting horses (there are polo fields as well). As you know, I am a pretty slow runner :o did you know that? Wink

OP posts:
DrNortherner · 10/11/2011 18:28

monkey your M&S Stool sample did make me laugh Grin I must say collecting the sample this morning nearly made me vom.

fanny you have lain down the Blackpool half gauntlet Wink This will be a thread first, 2 of us in the same race. Perhaps the others should have a bet? I reckon you have the edge you bitch Wink.......will you be staying over the night prior? Unfortunately the hotel group I work for does not have a hotel in blackpool so I will be looking for a chintzy B&B!

Welcome jezzabel, I agree that 10k is doable, just don't feel you have failed if you have to walk a bit. No matter what time you get you will have lapped everyone at home on the sofa!

rhet I actually snorted at your belt story. You are a legend!

I am actually in bed feeling rough and I just read that bonkers was lecturing a group of malteser students instead of masters....i was actually thinking for a second there is a uni course on Maltesers.....

peach how you doin? Not long now!.......

cest hope the move goes smoothly, bad luck about no TV......you'll have to have a family sing song around the piano Grin

june sounds like your training is going well, great stuff!

My penneth worth to those of you scared of speed is to join a club. I never push myself as hard as I do at running club. Nothing like being at the back of 40 plus runners to make you move yer arse Grin

peachLFDTsmuggler · 10/11/2011 19:24

DrNo, am not surprised you're feeling rough after stool collection duties!! Hope it doesn't become full blown shitgate. You and Fanny, should check into Blackpool's classiest guest house, buy kiss me quick hats, get on the WKDs and then puke your way round the course. Anything less would surely be a waste of a weekend Wink

am feeling ok ta. Felt quite sick this morning post-bagel but felt better when I stood up so no doubt a squished stomach thing. Still pooing for Britain (where is it all coming from??? I normally keep a very

clean bowel !!). Woman at playgroup said this morning that it won't be anytime soon as am still walking properly Hmm. Another said you've got to look proper knackered before the end is nigh. Had delicious afternoon nap after another crap night's sleep and will lie in tomorrow as DP taking DD to playgroup. She'll probably get there 2 hours late but hey!

Good luck with the move Cest, t'is a hideous thing but will be over soon and lovely to be in new place by Xmas. Sympathies on the tv. The sound wasn't working on ours yesterday (due to stooopid me pulling out a cable, oops), I thought I was going to have a breakdown Grin

rhetorician · 10/11/2011 19:33

peach its entirely possible that DP will deliver before you - if she is early and you are late...or the same time Shock. She feels proper knackered...

we had a power cut last night, and didn't know what to do - no tv, no internet. We resorted to conversation, and then reading!

Did my run home from work today, but it was absolutely boiling - I had wrong kit (leggings and long sleeved top and was sweltering). The pavements are hard on the legs when you run on them for 13k...back to trails and off-road tomorrow, thankfully.

OP posts:
AngeChica · 10/11/2011 19:49

It sounds like we have a similar mutt monkey ours is a hound / lab cross. He won't go further than 3 miles - I had started to take him out for 5 or 6, and eventually he just sat down in the park and Looked at me in disgust.

When are the LOs due peachsmuggler and rhet?

Jezabelle I think that is an excellent aim. Don't be tempted to panic and overdo it or you might get a muscle strain. You will feel fab for achieving the 10k and you could book in to another one, maybe a Santa run or summat - build up your distance over a few more weeks and then when you improve on your time you will feel even better! The sense of achievement is really rewarding.

Why not hatwoman, I used to pace my dad on my bike when he was in training for marathons. Same kinda thing, as long as the pony was OK with it :)

And fanny I think I was just feeling knackered and lazy when i read that :). I know will just have to manage 4/5 a week looking at say, the RW schedules. I work 4 days a week so I have have weekends and one window in the week on a Friday afternoon (as I don't work Fridays and DS has an afternoon school nursery place) to do daylight running.

rhetorician · 10/11/2011 20:24

Dec 3rd, but DP reckons a week early (I hesitate to tell her that she said this with DD1 who was 5 days late...)

reluctant dogs, eh? my grandparents had an overweight dalmation that would walk as far as the postbox (about 150m from their house) sit down and refuse to move until my grandad got the car out to come and collect him! happy days
