sticky a couple of specifics and a few general from prospectus and site which might be useful

peach candy floss check
might add pens and mugs Grin

stickyLFDTfingers · 16/11/2011 19:07

ah yes - I was talking to a CVS chap yesterday (they are very afraid of the cuts) and he was feverishly telling me to "take the pens, take the pens while you can"...

orangeLFDThead · 16/11/2011 19:11

Stop it all this talking of food is making me straving and I have ony just had my dinner.
Well done Rhet and well done to dd.
Hope the sweep goes well peach

monkeyLFDTwench · 16/11/2011 19:26

Of course the pasties are home made!

.

No, seriously they were. Though I stole the recipe from the boys cookery club - not only that, but the ones they made were actually nicer than mine . I was all set to make pumpkin risotto when DH moaned that he doesn't much like risotto and wanted something else .

LOL at "take the pens". Makes me think of the League of Gentlemen and "Pauline's Pens". I used to love that.

liath · 16/11/2011 20:18

Mmm, caramel cake. I have posh salt in the cupboard too!

ange and sticky I fancy the cragside 10k. I was toying with the idea of Kielder too but there is an equivalent length walking challenge which you can opt to run or run/walk which I might do instead . They also do the 26 mile Northumberland Coastal Challenge in May which I walked last year and hope to run/walk next year. It was a beautiful route.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 16/11/2011 20:34

Okay kokay, pig in a pokey!!! I loved that too monkey, genius!

Do it sticky, it's an investment! In your future hapiness, if nothing else!

Hooray for dry day Rhet's DD! Loving your runner of the year award dream. Were you wearing a Oscars style dress and giving a tearful speech? Smile

rhetorician · 16/11/2011 20:55

I love my Garmin HRM; it's much more reliable than my old one - which kept peaking strangely, giving me off the scale readings at one end, and ones befitting life support on the other! I find it quite helpful to have a different number to obsess over, fixate on focus on other than pace and actually the kms just click around. I'm still base-building, but can't wait to add in some faster paced running - the last 500m of sprint today I felt like I'd moved into another gear and that the engine (as it were) was powerful and full of zip - even after 6 miles.

This is part of a long-term (possible marathon??) plan - 3 months base-building, followed by 3 x 3 month training plans - gradually moving up the distances - 10k, HM and then lastly marathon...

I rarely cook with salt, but do use posh salt...I also have a bread machine, although I only make dough in it and then shape my own loaves and cook in the oven (got sick of the same sized loaf with a hole in the bottom!) - I like messing around with different flours and stuff like that

OP posts:
backwardpossom · 16/11/2011 21:04

I love my bread machine. Last winter, when our village was cut off and the shop couldn't get any deliveries, we still had bread Grin

fannybanjo · 16/11/2011 21:08

rhet yes mine is all calibrated etc, so was my friend's. I don't worry about calories so not something I give any thought to really but she is trying to lose a few pounds so likes to see the calories being burned off (although she doesn't need to). We were looking at the heart rate and her average was 153 and max was 183 and that put her in the top category of working fucking like a maniac. Interesting to see that to lose weight she would actually have to run a lot slower. Excellent that your DD is getting there with potty! Good girl. Wish DD3 would get a move on, the shits in her nappies now are rivalling DH's.

monkey I have to say pumpkin makes me feel like throwing up - I found a pumpkin under DD1's bed last week that was slowly rotting (I thought DH had binned it). She has taken it upstairs and starting re-carving it. The smell was horrendous, that was what led me to it.

sticky let's hope your DH is on form and gets you the Garmin. I don't take any chances and always let DH know but last year he surprised me with an iPad. This year I am dithering over a Kindle as well as the Heart Rate Monitor for my Garmin.

Thanks for suggestions ladies, just went to Outlet Village near me and picked up a Gap warmest one with hood, will do for standing cheering DD on. Uggs will be making an appearance for the fourth Winter running even though I HATE them.

Moshi lovely coat, I have seen that Barbour before as DH is Barbour mad. What with being a shooting man and all that jazz. I would invest in a good Barbour if I thought I would wear it all the time but I know I wouldn't.

Running I have a Joseph Sheepskin coat which I actually had on today and everyone says "oh you look glamorous" (even though had skinny jeans, biker boots and plain t-shirt on underneath!) so thanks for the suggestion but I've beat you to it! However, wearing to the Cross Country would be a crime. Can you imagine mud on pale cream sheepskin... Shock

I AM THE RESIDENT PONCE AREN'T I? Is anyone more poncey than me?

AngeChica · 16/11/2011 21:10

don't think I could cope with more than 1 marathon in a year... but if I was fit in the autumn the Kielder would be a fab event. If flagging you could always catch the spectator bus for the last 5 miles like the Sunderland guy did. He didn't even seem to be particularly ashamed of that Hmm.

liath we love having the Northumberland coast on our doorstep.

So are you able to run on trails from your home sticky or do you have to drive out to the dales? I run on a lot of road and cycle paths. I have limited footpaths i can use.

fanny i have a cheapo puffer (?) jacket thing which is like wearing a sleeping bag, blissfully warm and semi waterproof.

rhet, feet up with a well earned beer by now I hope.

fannybanjo · 16/11/2011 21:10

Oh and rhet here is your Wine and Thanks for Runner of the Year 2011. Well done kiddo!

rhetorician · 16/11/2011 21:20

thanks fanny - both gratefully received!

I think it must be because heart rate can be converted more accurately into calorie expenditure, but other factors are weight, height and age.

I am suddenly really excited about my running - I am never going to be moshi but I am going to smash all my pbs next year. So there!

My run today was a bit dreary as I couldn't work out how to find the path that went along by the sea...but that all adds welcome distraction, I suppose.

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 16/11/2011 21:25

rhet what is your plan re pace etc? Are you planning to get faster and if so, by how much? You do make me laugh, I am bombastic with mine, I'm like "fuck it, all hell for leather" - you're "3 months of base training..." - so opposite. Grin

I am going to say out loud my aims out for 2012....

HM PB of 1.40.
5k of 20.30
Complete a marathon sub 4hr.

We'll see. I know I can do it, especially with joining running club.

monkeyLFDTwench · 16/11/2011 21:30

Ive just eaten a curly wurly - it must be 80s night in the monkey house.

Done nothing today, just walked round town on my own as my dad had ds3. I hardly ever get time off alone, so it was lovely. Just spent ages in Waterstones and Starbucks!

And good news, have finally got a referral letter for ds2 to see the gastroenterologist next Tuesday, so it means a nightmare drive to school, then into Watford, then school, then home, then school, then home - but still pleased things may now get sorted Smile.

rhetorician · 16/11/2011 21:34

base training and then start introducing speed workouts - I can run slow hills during base training, for leg strength and downhills for turnover. Look, it works for me, and running like this means that I enjoy what I'm doing because I'm working within my capabilities - I'm expecting to see some dramatic improvements in my paces in 2012...and what you do fanny clearly works for you - you love it, and you're improving all the time. I'm older than you and more creaky so I have to use my smarts a bit in order not to end up stuck on the sofa with something sore for weeks on end.

I love the .30 bit for the 5k, why not just go for sub-20?? I think mine would be
sub 25 5k
sub 55 10k
sub 2 hour half
sub 4.30 marathon

I'd be delighted to achieve those times (my PR for a 10k is 53 something...)

OP posts:
backwardpossom · 16/11/2011 21:44

I think writing down your aims is a fab idea - keep going back to them for motivation!

Mine are:
sub 25 min 5k (I'm so fucking close to this one, it's driving me mental - current PB 25:37!)
sub 50 min 10k (this one is new - it was sub 55 min, but I've achieved this Grin)
sub 2 hour half marathon (one and only 13.1 miles was 2:06:59 - I think this is really achievable soon, but pregnancy may put a stop to this one)
complete a marathon (not likely to happen any time soon, again due to possible pregnancy, but I will do it one day!)

rhetorician · 16/11/2011 21:47

possum you will - pregnancy is enough of a goal in itself, surely?

I also have to bring up toddler and newborn, paint house and write an effing book...

OP posts:
backwardpossom · 16/11/2011 21:47

Bloody life getting in the way of our running aims, huh rhet? Grin

rhetorician · 16/11/2011 21:50

indeed, a right nuisance, I call it...

ok, shred ladies - what do I need to do the shred? I've some weights somewhere around, but did someone mention a skipping rope Confused? and how much space do I need - I don;t want to brain DD with my antics...tv is in front room which isn't that large.

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 16/11/2011 21:50

That's the beauty of running, it's such a personal thing and really, all the training plans in the world won't make someone do something they truly don't want to do. When you set your mind to doing something and you have passion for it, that's when you reach your goals and I'm sure we'll both do it. I am totally loving running at the moment, more than I ever have and it's down to the races. Yes 20.00 5k would be unbelievable and if I can run a 21.30 one in training then I'm sure I could do it, 6.40 m/m is quick running for me and at the moment, not something I'm concentrating on or think I could do without good speed training. We'll see how running club goes...

monkey lucky you having a nice breather and pleased DS finally been seen.

sfxmum · 16/11/2011 21:56

missed the dry girl success Rhet well done to your dd

about enjoyment in running I can safely say this year has been a dreadful plod and I did not give up entirely largely thanks to this thread, there has not been much joy or conviction and never found my groove

I have hope for next year and certainly will set goals

about tomorrow the 2 people I was going with dropped off at the last minute so I shall be going by myself

backwardpossom · 16/11/2011 21:57

The skipping bit in the shred is with an imaginary rope, rhet so don't worry about it. No way I'd be skipping with a real rope in my living room!

rhetorician · 16/11/2011 22:03

oh well dd will enjoy the shred spectacle, I'm sure: 'what you doin', mummy?'

OP posts:
backwardpossom · 16/11/2011 22:03

DS sat on my tummy during the ab crunches this morning...

monkeyLFDTwench · 16/11/2011 22:05

Rhet just the weights will do. You don't need much room, just enough to pant, grunt and swear.

What's your book? I wrote one some years ago. It quite literally drove me mental Smile.
