New thread everyone!

Rest for me today - just six days to go and I've woken with a sore throat .....

rhetorician · 12/10/2011 13:54

yes, fanny I think it's probably just the kids bringing bugs home all the time. I take it your dad recovered? My dad died of a heart attack at 45, and I'm the same age now, so it's been a strange year for me - to now be older than he ever was :( hence the running - that 2000 kms is kind of for him - he liked to run as a young man. But it is also to make sure that I don't end up like him...

oops, I'm up next, race-wise!

stickylittlefingers · 12/10/2011 14:01

back with my virtuous hat on :)

Moshi and Fanny sorry to hear you're both under the weather. Hope you both get well soon, and take good care (and yes you're very right fanny and paws about taking the heart/virus issue seriously. It's all to easy to be gung-ho when you've trained so long for something).

rhet and hat I like your way of making sure you keep a bit of speed in your running. We just need Master to come now and explain how fast you run when pursued by lions/cheetahs.

Am I a very wicked person? I iron pillow cases, but never iron duvet covers (it wouldn't occur to me to! Blush). I never iron for longer than the News Quiz. I think that's a pretty good rule!

Did a soggy 8k. TBH, given I sweat so much anyway (TMI!!) it probably doesn't make much difference that it's raining, in fact a good excuse.

stickylittlefingers · 12/10/2011 14:02

all too easy, and I'm not even a bit ill! Blush

Sounds like lots of injuries and illnesses about... hope you all feel better soon! First big cold of the year doing the rounds here so parents being picked off one by one.... Although 4 hours of ironing would be enough to put me in bed!

Just added myself in - booked in for April. My Garmin's in the post, so I'm waiting by the letterbox like an idiot. :)

Pawsnclaws · 12/10/2011 14:07

See running makes a good point, it's not the training it's the ironing wot dun it.

OP posts:
rhetorician · 12/10/2011 14:08

I never iron anything if I can avoid it

stickylittlefingers · 12/10/2011 14:19

rhet and fanny - my grandad died young of a heart attack, my Dad (his son) luckily survived his first, had a triple bypass but has had some since and has to be very careful. The result being that both my brother and I are really motivated to be fit and healthy. There are also a lot of long-lived people in the family, so hopefully we've gone for their genes instead!

Essentially, you can't help your genes, but we must surely be doing the right thing, exercising the heart regularly. Just have to be careful not to run under a bus!

Pawsnclaws · 12/10/2011 14:21

Me neither rhet. I check the label before I buy and if it needs ironing I put it right back on the shelf.

A quick question - anyone know where to buy Yo Gi Oh (sp?) cards? I need to buy some as a birthday present and have No Idea. My sons are so not into anything on trend.

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 12/10/2011 14:28

Sorry to hear of your dad dying so young rhet Sad - when my dad was ill I was 17 and 42 felt ancient - now I know it's a whippersnapper! Yes, he survived but never fully recovered and he's 61 now and it's a constant battle to keep him stable. He's been luckier than most though. Smile

Yes 'twas the bastard ironing which did it
notDH'sbeefstew Hmm DD1 was sick after having stew in school and she now won't touch it with a bargepole! She's ecstatic that I'm now unable to look at stew without balking. Grin

Watching an old Trinny & Susannah on TV. Blush

Thanks everyone else for well wishes - I'm posting on my phone on the MN app, so too hard to scroll to see who's said what to reply to, once I start a post.

fannybanjo · 12/10/2011 14:30

sticky again sorry to hear of your father's poor health. Heart disease along with cancer too bloody common.

runnerstipple · 12/10/2011 14:30

I iron when the pile threatens to topple out of the window, but like sticky I iron pillowcases and not duvets. I fond if it stays in the pile for long enough the weight of what's on top flattens out the creases in the bottom layers.

Sorry paws my sons are clearly not on trend either because I've never even heard of Yo Gi Oh cards!

fannybanjo · 12/10/2011 14:31

You're all slatterns I tell ya! SLATTERNS! My mate tumble dries everything so she doesn't have to iron!

runnerstipple · 12/10/2011 14:32

That'll be find not fond

runnerstipple · 12/10/2011 14:33

My name is runnerstipple and I am a slattern. I admit it. But if I did more ironing I wouldn't have time to stay on top of this thread.

futurity · 12/10/2011 14:36

Thanks for adding me to the list...didn't think of that! £27 is a bit steep...think the one I just did was £20? I expect a serious medal for that and posh nibbles in the goody bag!

I also have ironing to do...but am currently trying to pack my kitchen up ready for it being pulled apart next week so am in denial about the state of the rest of the house!

stickylittlefingers · 12/10/2011 14:36

runners I like the iron with the weight of the ironing piled on top approach!

Paws Yogi Bear cards? In the pickernick basket. Yo Gi Oh cards sound like an expensive waste of money absolutely no idea.

rhetorician · 12/10/2011 14:37

look, ladies - if it's running or ironing, then the ironing just has to go.

I'm still wavering about doing the Dublin marathon next year - so if some of you fancy it, it could be fun. It's a fairly fast course (I've just spluttered tea everywhere at that!) so probably quite good for pbs. It is always grey and drizzling rarely very hot here, so conditions should be good too.

fannybanjo · 12/10/2011 14:39

I iron and MN from my phone!!

sfxmum · 12/10/2011 14:40

Ladies please keep it decent and mo more talk of ironing please

Exhausted back from school trip
Still after school stuff to do with dd. Running tomorrow

runnerstipple · 12/10/2011 14:41

Catch you, you multi-tasker Grin

sfxmum · 12/10/2011 14:45

Rhet I can sympathise with the weird year regarding parental death. My mum had me at 36 died when I was 15 she was turning 51 guess at what age I had dd? Yep 36 weirdness

rhetorician · 12/10/2011 14:47

sfx I don't think you need counselling to work out what was going on there! On the whole I feel positive - I am terribly sad for him, and all the things he never got to do (I am also angry with him for being so bloody irresponsible) - but it puts moans and groans about age and aging into perspective. I think I'm doing OK, on the whole :)

Pawsnclaws · 12/10/2011 14:52

Careful sticky, I was strongarmed persuaded to buy Yogi Bear on dvd recently. A truly dreadful film, yet the boys have it on a loop. I think I've found the cards in Argos - a tenner for a few measly cards!

Hmm rhet you use the magic words there, grey and drizzling .... you temptress. Will look it up now. Although I fear DH will consider the marathon to be a waste of a thoroughly good weekend away. Him and friend's husband spent the whole of Saturday trying to persuade me and friend not to run on Sunday, on the basis that it was a waste of VDT*

(* which to the uninitiated means Valuable Drinking Time).
