thanks moshi I have a couple of meetings lined up for next week just to get my bearings and will list needs afterwards I might be in touch.

peachsmuggler · 06/09/2011 19:07

Evening all. Have been suffering with the cold the last few days and didn't even make it out of the house today. In fact didn't make it out my PJs Blush

very impressed with all the running in horrid weather, it is brutal out there. To whoever was asking about getting motivated in winter, I think you just need to be super strict with yourself and when you have decided which days you are running, do it come he'll or high water. I live running in winter but a) it's always a struggle to get out the door even though I love it when I'm out there and b) lLondon is usually fairly dry, I imagine it's a different story if you are worried about skidding about on wet leaves.

Well done on the hangover run Rhet!

Sfx, am 30 weeks this Friday. Exhausted most of the time and now thinking the next 10 weeks are going to go reaaally fast. Must sit down with DP and discuss names. Can imagine starting a business must be pretty daunting, but would also be incredibly satisfying. How are your confidence levels after 6 years out the workforce? I know a lot of people can be really affected by this. God knows what I'll ever do when I get back out there!

futurity · 06/09/2011 19:40

I don't mind running in the winter so long as I have the right clothing. Ice on the road is a no no (have tried before but almost fell over so never again!). I'm lucky though that I can run in the daylight..wouldn't be so keen if I had to do most runs in the dark.

ibbydibby · 06/09/2011 20:23

Re running in the winter, it is such a strggle to get out, but I always (usually) feel so warm and glowing when I get back that I either don't need the heating on at all, or have it on lower...which is a bargain!

V strong southerly wind here - had hoped to run late afternoon, but didn't happen....have had a bit of a lazy breakfast-in-bed and pub-lunch-day. Not my usual routine, but it is my birthday. DS1 also being very attentive with cups of tea etc. Will miss him (not just for cup of tea purposes) and DS2 when they go back to school tomorrow.

What sort of business are you setting up sfx (sorry if you have already said this)

fannybanjo · 06/09/2011 20:33

Evening ladies.....

GreatNorthRunwithfuckedarmandstupidlogistics-gate update

We are not going in motorhome. Stop. We may drive down on the morning. Stop. I may not yet do it. Stop. Sad My arm is awful, it has swollen up worse today, pain dreadful. Stop. I'm pissed off and fed up. Stop. Moan over. Stop. Grin

Thanks to everyone for your help with getting me somewhere, you are all angels.

Anyway enough of me moaning - futurity well done on 11 miles in this weather. Think of those calories you've burned, running in wind is great for it!

I enjoy running in the winter and even went out in snow and ice last year, much to DH's annoyance. Grin Hmm Main reason was because I am frightened of my arse getting bigger over Christmas and nowt to do with fitness!

Rhet I laughed at your post last night at 11.30 - I was bloody jealous! Needed a nightcap to knock me out

peach are you doing any running at all (mind turned to mush sorry, can't remember if you are!)

orangehead · 06/09/2011 21:02

oh fanny that not good. Have you had it seen to yet?
I dont mind running in winter I always get nice and toastie warm 10 mins into a run even on the coldest days. But when icy is a different story, I know I would fall and break something. Last year I went onto the field near my house when it was icy, running on grass was ok. Really dont have much luck with dogs do I?
I drove out tonight to check where I am going on saturday for the race, so all sorted I think. The race starts at a pub and ends at another pub, but dont think I will be having a drink before Grin

peachsmuggler · 06/09/2011 21:48

Awww fanny, that is rough. Moan away lady, you deserve the sympathy. Hope it starts to improve soon.

No, gave up running weeks ago, just running vicariously through you lot Smile

happy birthday ibby! your DS with his cups of tea, sounds like a treasure!

Pub is good orange, as equals toilet!!!

orangehead · 06/09/2011 21:50

That was my thinking

YeahThatsTheBadger · 06/09/2011 21:58

Happy birthday ibby!

peach how is your dd getting on with her big girls bed?

I like running in winter too (but not when it's icy). Oh and I too am not garmined up. Just a £5 watch from Argos! Grin

I got my race pack! Am very excited. Although DS is disappointed that his isn't here.

sfxmum · 06/09/2011 22:09

ibby happy birthday
I am not sure if I mentioned on this thread, I think not, forgive me but will be quiet a bit longer, it is the care area/ services more or less

peach so you can see the final line as it were Grin time flies
about confidence, well I have days, it is a complex issue mostly to do with outside expectations than my actual level of confidence. I am generally good at projecting confidence and competence in a professional arena (not so much socially) but the fact that I am now 42 and have been away for a while seems to have rendered all my previous experience null.
and I have conflicts more of a personal nature, I found it really hard to adapt to the sahm life and associated issues, but never mind forwards is the way to go ( bet you are glad you asked Wink )

child apparently not asleep Shock

Wheelybug · 06/09/2011 22:19

Oh fanny - moan away, sounds a miserable time. Do you think you should have your arm looked at again ? I hope you come to some resolution on the GNR after all your hard work.

Happy Birthday ibby ! Hope you enjoyed your day.

SFX - good luck with the business. Go for it. You'd only regret it if you didn't.

Great run futurity and in such awful conditions... well done you !

Got to the gym this evening and included a little jog on the treadmill - only 10 mins and v. slow but ankle felt ok. Could feel it but not painful and loosened as I ran and i now actually have a lot more movement in it as i think I've been tensing it a lot. So, will reserve judgment to see how it is in the morning but looking positive. But I really enjoyed the little jog ! I can't believe how good running feels and I'm not really sure why.

Can't get back into the gym until friday so 2 days rest of ankle and fingers crossed a little bit longer......

DrNortherner · 06/09/2011 22:27

fanny where are yuo travelling from to GNR? What happened to motorhome idea?

DrNortherner · 06/09/2011 22:28

born to run guy in uk

backwardpossom · 06/09/2011 22:33

The official results for the 10k I did on Sunday are in, and they say I did a 58:36. I remain unconvinced, but I'll take it... feel slightly happier...

fanny what happened to your arm? :(

Happy birthday ibby

Nice run futurity

Good luck with the business sfx

Glad your ankle is improving, wheely

Sorry to anyone else I've missed out!

encyclogirl · 06/09/2011 22:35

Fanny you poor, poor thing. You can't run with a swollen up arm, every stride would be so painful. Get thee to a doctor woman!

Happy Birthday Ibby

Peachy it was me who asked about winter running, thanks for the advice. I'm now running every other day, and fully intend to keep doing this.

Got out this evening and did 6. Weather was really nice in the end and I ran around in just over an hour which is really good for me. Felt fantastic afterwards. Brain all de-cluttered and all zen-like now.

rhetorician · 06/09/2011 23:56

bloody hell, lots of yakkety yak on here; my run (in Cork, don't ya know) was good, but same thing, speedy out, didn't realise that there was a gale at my back, in my face all the way back.

have broken my streak - didn't run at all yesterday, but now have the challenge of beating earlier one (27 days, 228 km)

dp says that dd much happier now that thug boy is away - nursery staff tacitly admitting that he is a little gobshite.

I did some good bursts of speed through the streets of Cork city, much to the astonishment of the natives :) sometimes a change of scene is great for your running.

Rambling..night all!

OP posts:
LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 07/09/2011 07:35

I love that phrase (gobshite!)

I really like running in winter and am excited that this winter my youngest child starts nursery so I should be able to run everyday outside in daylight. We live in the countryside so winter usually means treadmill for me as there are no streetlights round here.

I did 3 miles last night in my second pair of new trainers Grin. Got some lovely bright blue Nike lunareclipses and they feel great - I love that new running shoe feeling - all cushiony and firm. The weather was actually quite nice to run in, it was very windy but the wind was warm, light rain and bright evening light mixed with heavy clouds. I also saw a hare.

encyclo I find they key to comfortable winter running is a decent hat. I have fleece one which is shaped to cover my ears

bonkers20 · 07/09/2011 09:12

Newsflash: Today I will be running in a long sleeved top for the first time in a l.o.n.g time.

re: finding it harder or easier to run during term time. Week days it makes no difference as I run at work, but the w/e's it's harder because of DSs activities. DH also works every other Saturday.

I'm not one for going out at the end of the day once the children/house sorted out!

sfxmum · 07/09/2011 11:10

many thanks all for your support in entrepreneurial matters

dd at school, have done my morning run, did not wear long sleeves but put a vest under my short sleeve zip up
will possibly enrol in gym later, although it is probably more sensible to wait a month, the expense this month has been greater with all the back to school stuff.

fanny get thee to the doctor! how is it today?

happy running

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 07/09/2011 11:26

What sort of business are you starting sfx? I am always trying to think up ideas that will allow me not to return to work. I hated all the office politics and NHS bureaucracy.

MoshiMoshi · 07/09/2011 11:37

Brief post as time poor.

These things are essential in winter time for icy or snowy runs I highly recommend them as the mean you can continue to run outdoors whatever the weather. I always have a flashing light that attaches to me and, if very dark, use a headtorch too. Then I layer up and have a beany and gloves. The top layers tend to come off and I run just with the hat, gloves and running tights on with long sleeved top or short sleeved top with arm warmers.

Have posted packages today, Debi and fanny. They were not hugely expensive to post so not to worry about the cost but thank you for offering. You can offer the equivalent amount of moral support on here in lieu of payment Grin. Hope the arm improves fanny.

orangehead · 07/09/2011 12:39

I was thinking of getting some of them last year Moshi but never got round to it. Must remember this year.
Just done 5k at the gym, I always tend to think running on the treadmill is easier so go to the gym if not feeling 100%. But then every time I remember whilst Im there that I hate running on the treadmill and find it alot harder and that stupid time thing staring at you and it seems to go so slow. Nevermind at least it done now. No more running now till saturday and plenty of icing my leg and foot, still a little tender

MoshiMoshi · 07/09/2011 14:40

Thanks ladies for your little well wishes! possum I injured it..... gardening. Grin I kid you not! It's a little bit better today - I've managed a 6.5 miler with hill repeats - my poor friend came, the hills are VERY steep - she was not happy at the end! Even though I haven't done "serious" training for GNR I can feel my fitness improving tremendously just by following a plan. That's thanks to you lot.

Moshi I may look at that - maybe my 15 mins of fame if I got picked...!! No doubt they would put me in gobshite (rhet thanks, had completely forgotten about that pearler of a word!) attire and I would look a total fool - only to end up with me burning all copies of magazine so no-one saw me. In fact, I am not photogenic in the slightest so daren't enter! Ohhhhh can't wait to get my book, thank you so much! Going to order some of those trax nearer the winter too.

DrNo Motorhome was going to be hired at rate of £100 a day so all in all, a costly weekend just for me to do a race! I cannot justify spending so much, I have DD2's birthday next week, DH's 40th beginning of October then DD1's birthday end of October so not the right time to be splashing cash! We are in Chester so around 2hr 45min to drive there so very doable really.

orange and wheely glad legs are getting better. Take care though, I can sympathise with pain at the moment, so draining too. Orange although treadmill easier to run on, it is so boring, I can't manage more than 5k on a treadmill and that is a struggle. Then taking into account time to get there and back etc, plus the cost of gym membership JUST to use a treadmill, suffice to say, mine was cancelled!
