that's so funny cestlavie! I have a great picture in my head of you running along, clutching running juice, a cbeebies mag and a toy car, in hot pursuit of DS...

fanny sounds like you shouldn't push it too hard just yet. Re GNR, I think probably you'd have a better night's sleep in a proper hotel/motel or whatever, just wanted to give you a backstop option. I did have two mates come stay last year who were doing it. My there was some carb loading that night!! But our bathroom's not exactly done-up yet, so it's a bit rough and ready :)

And blimey, what with fishy fannies and stretching fannies... newbies are going to wonder if this thread is a cover for something else entirely (we're not all actually talking in code, are we???)

So - I'm entered for my first ever parkrun. They've just recently started in Durham. Very excited! Tho it might be a 5000m swim - it's down by the river and I don't think it stopped raining today... Hmm

orangehead · 26/08/2011 18:21

Grin bonkers, I must remember to use commas.
Looks interesting but weird Quenelle

squix · 26/08/2011 19:47

Blimey - have I only been away 2 1/2 weeks - started to try and catch up then realised you guys are already 300 posts into a new thread. Managed to scan a few pages and saw lots of chat about Jammy Dodgers ....that didn't surprise meGrin

Did 0 runs on holiday - too hot, too hilly and very rural with too many scary dogs. I did however manage to work out some circuit training routines (based on 30day shred and years of aerobics and conditioning classes) and did 30 mins of that most days. Have done 1 4miler since I've been back - was a bit slower but not too much. Planning in 1 long run this weekend.

Right - will deffo try and catch up with the rest of the thread later on.

rhetorician · 26/08/2011 20:14

it's a pity, squix isn't it, that there's not yet a device whereby you can read lengthy running threads and run at the same time? that would work for me

OP posts:
squix · 26/08/2011 20:50

rhet - hmmmm may be an idea for Garmin product development Grin

peachsmuggler · 26/08/2011 21:52

Just on to say good luck to DrNo for Monday, hope the shin holds up!

Cestlavie, your DS sounds hilarious!

Off camping tomorrow in Dorset till Monday. Already feeling in distinctly unrelaxed holiday mode as car hire company (yes you, Europcar you swine!!!) called DP at 5.15 tonight to stay they couldn't drop the car off tomorrow as planned as they could find him on credit check database (probably due to moving) and we'd have to go collect it instead. Grrrrrr, that's the only flipping reason we chose them. Arseholes!!!!!!

Anyway, need to call them at 8 tomorrow morning to kick some ass.

Can't wait to get up repeatedly during night to wee. Would it be ever so wring to use DD's travel potty? Grin

rhetorician · 26/08/2011 22:05

peach I think that you should absolutely use her travel potty; after all, it would be highly dangerous for a woman in your condition to be stumbling about in the dark with an overfull bladder

OP posts:
peachsmuggler · 26/08/2011 22:42

I know! And with my pelvic floor, I could end up just seeing over everyone elses tents!

Anifrangapani · 26/08/2011 22:50

Thanks to the person who suggested Willen Lake for a run Smile

Camping travel potty for adults - excellent idea. When will you be on Dragon's Den? I hate having to get up and out of the tent during the night.

DebiTheScot · 26/08/2011 22:58

Love that conversation cest, he'd get on well with my 5 yr old!

I had planned to enter 2 races before I went away but my friend hasn't confirmed that she's doing the duathlon and I don't want to do it on my own so I'll have to wait till I get back. I have entered a cycling 'race' though on 11th Sept.

Someone needs to invent an app/mp3 type thing that turns this thread into sound and it could be read to us while we run Grin

Feeling a bit less stuffed up today and have packed my running stuff for holiday. Don't think everything else is packed but never mind. We're off up to Scotland- to a caravan near Fort William (via Lake District on way up and Huddersfield on way back).

peachsmuggler · 26/08/2011 22:58

Weeing, not seeing.

Wheelybug · 27/08/2011 17:08

Back from hols.

Having been v pleased with myself for running 4x in hot hilly trail conditions , I went out for a runyesterday morning and a mile in turned my ankle over . Was just thinking how much I'd enjoyed the mote challenging conditions. Had to hobble back and am now so cross with myself.

Limping just walking although have walked quite a lot on it today. I almost n
skipped the run in favour of a lie in too. So wish I had done.

How long have people been out with twisted ankles and any tips ? I had been so happy with how my training had been going too. Was hoping to do a 5 mile race in 3weeks . Then have GSR in 9 weeks.

Trying to catch up on thread - well done rhet onyour race . Great time.

rhetorician · 27/08/2011 18:25

wheely :( that's so crap...I would try to avoid walking on it, use RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation), add 2 days rest on after you think it's OK. I did this about 4 years, running down the hill near my house (not a steep one), turned it over and i didn't let it heal well enough, so my achilles took the strain...ligaments are probably bruised...

went out in the rain even though I didn't want to; the running streak is starting to help though - my easy run times have definitely got a bit faster, and my easy runs feel, well, easier

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 27/08/2011 18:53

Thanks rhet. How long did you rest for do you remember (roughly - days, weeks ?). There is another thread posting about a sprained ankle (sounds much worse than mine though) and doctor has advised 12 weeks - eek....

I suppose it will get my out on my bike if it takesa while... but I'd far rather run.

Good luck for Monday DrNo - hopethe shins are holding up. Oh and belated birthday wishes - and to MrsW.

Themasterandmargaritas · 27/08/2011 19:02

Oh Wheely what a shame. I hope it eases up soon.

C'est, I think boys the world over must be the same. It's the sort of conversation I would have with ds1 (7). There are several conversations during the day around what food is going to be consumed during the day and when and what toys are to be bought for the next birthday/Christmas. Grin

Peachy - a travel potty is a must. I have often contemplated a rather large black bin liner in our tent 'porch' for those camping times when I hear lions nearby, there is NO WAY i am going outside then. I've even considered doing a 'paula' that way. GrinGrinBlush.

6 miles for me this morning, the longest I've done for a while. The altitude and hills were a little tricky, mind. I'm still struggling with my post run headache. I always drink water and try to have a snack but am forever getting a headache. I don't have access to a recovery run drink, any other suggestions?

Wheelybug · 27/08/2011 19:06

m&m - on the recovery drinks -I took a tube of disolvable tablets to italy as they'd be easy to pack. Definitely worked well. Could you order some of these to be sent to you cheaply ish ? Will tryand remember what the ones were I had.

Themasterandmargaritas · 27/08/2011 19:10

Oooo sounds possible wheely, dh is popping back to the UK for a weekend I could get them sent to a friend's house.

Wheelybug · 27/08/2011 19:19

I used the zero ones of these - I know many scoff at the low cal drink idea but it definitely helped rehydrate (DH even tried them and he is a full fat lucozade sports man). It look slike they do a different one in the isotonic section too.

www.highfiveonline.co.uk/electrolyte-supplements-c39.html

I got one tube though on amazon because the postage was cheaper ! I thinkon this site it doubles the cost of the tablets.

rhetorician · 27/08/2011 19:32

wheely I think days rather than weeks for a minor sprain...:)

OP posts:
rhetorician · 27/08/2011 22:13

sitting here trying to work out if I can manage a long run tomorrow - we've friends coming to lunch, and there may be wine Shock, but I don't think I can leave 6 months pg DP with recalcitrant spirited DD to clean house and oversee cooking (DP hates cooking); so my only other option would seem to be to not really drink and go out when guests have left...but will this actually happen?

tricky, isn't it? otherwise, I won't be able to do it until Tuesday because of work stuff.

OP posts:
rhetorician · 27/08/2011 22:20

oh, and before someone tells me to get up early, you should have a word with my daughter who has gone from waking up just before 8 to waking up just before 7...hence scuppering my plans to get half my long run in before anyone is even awake. I love running but I refuse to get up before 6 on a Sunday!

OP posts:
rhetorician · 27/08/2011 22:21

OK, I appear to be talking to myself in a public place Blush

OP posts:
bonkers20 · 27/08/2011 22:29

You just carry on there rhetorician. I think you should get up before 6am and do a long run, and also don't drink and go for a long run once your guests have left. Won't you feel great then!

rhetorician · 27/08/2011 22:30

I'd feel great, but I might also be single!

OP posts:
bonkers20 · 27/08/2011 22:32

Then you'd get even MORE running in!
