More space for us to talk about our progress on the C25K programme, the highs, the lows, the hills, the rain, our pelvic floors and our choice of running music!

All are welcome on this international thread, stay with us and enjoy success Grin

I've been bad - have veered off c25k as I'm never going to be able to run 3k in 30 mins. I'm so slow. Did a week one run on Saturday but tried to go as fast as possible in the running bits - sort of like interval training. I thought my pelvic floor would fall out. Was horrid and even fast I'm only doing 12 minute miles. I then did 30 mins on Sunday. The time was fine - the speed was not. Back to 15 minute miles. Wish I'd never downloaded the fecking gps app as until then thought I was running ok :(
Today I did 25 minutes and it was comfortable enough at 14.40. Really don't know what to do next to progress. Have a 4 mile run on may 2nd as part of a relay team. Expect I'll run it all but in about an hour. Wouldn't be so bothered if it was just me. Feel I'm letting the team down.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 29/03/2011 21:02

'Team songs'? What are team songs exactly? Ta. Smile

sybilfaulty · 29/03/2011 22:31

Soft Kitty, we are sharing songs which help us get through the run, and we have all sort of adopted Xanadu as a team song. I certainly feel cheered when it comes on and think of our merry band of runners. Sadly I am old enough to remember it first time round but I was a mere babe at the time. Ish.

Mollie my lovely, if you are part of an Olympic relay team you can worry about timing but as you are not you just need to get round. If you are doing 15 m miles just now, you are still running and that is better than walking, sitting on the sofa, etc etc. You will speed up. I am slow as a snail still but enjoying being out there. My pelvic floor is also terrible (and I am in good company here on this thread) but I put on the appropriate knicker enhancements and jog off at my own (slow) pace. You are doing great. I would love to run with you and be on a team with you. I presume the rest of the team is not macho and so looking to do it in 25 mins.

At my 5k the other week we had young and old, fat and thin, fast and slow. Really great to see all those people doing it. I was about in the middle of the finishers and we were all standing on the last 200 m cheering th rest on. HONESTLY, no one is minding the time. Just keep running. You can do it Smile

Hear hear sybil! Well said!

It's still light here. I really want to go out, but I live literally over the road from my office, and I'm scared of meeting my colleagues on their way out Grin.

Grin at happypotter - if the skating rink had still been there you might have seen me in Bryant Park on a Saturday morning. Let me know if ever you want a weekend run in Central Park!

midtowner · 30/03/2011 03:41

My ipod was flat, so I had to wait until it was charged, by which time it was dark Smile. I used my run to calibrate my chip - when I got home the chip said I'd done 5.6k, but according to map my run it was 4.3k. Since I'd done most of the run with my thighs clenched together to avoid complete pelvic floor failure I didn't think it was too bad (luckily I was wearing Dh's golf jacket which comes down to mid-thigh, so saved me from too much Blush). So next time I run I will set it to a 5k run and see how long it takes.

midtowner · 30/03/2011 03:42

PS: my arms have started to hurt after running - presumably because I hold them in a funny position. Does that happen to anyone else?

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 30/03/2011 06:27

Ok, another question, sorry.Blush Where can I get a chip from, what does it do and where do you put it while running?

The team songs thing sound great Smile. I'm watching loads of 2nd hand ipods on ebay so hoping I'll be joining with the music soon! I also remember Xanadu the first time round, so you're not alone Wink.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/03/2011 07:31

Aching arms you say Midtowner Hmm
Was that a one off or is it always?!

Re the music, early on my DC put the theme from Benny Hill on my Running playlist. It really made me laugh!

Well that didn't go too well! Did 15 mins but I think I got burnt out. I set off thinking "cor I've missed this" and bounded off. Oops! I got further round than normal then realised how far I had to run back home and promptly collapsed (almost) and limped home. Next time I need to slow it down- was being far to eager and I couldn't keep the pace up. Slow and steady definatly is the way forward.
Molly- I'm not worrying about my pace as such, just happy to keep running all the way round and get home for a shower and a Brew with a Biscuit

YorkshireCrockpot · 30/03/2011 08:37

Piste Grin at running with benny hill!

midtowner · 30/03/2011 12:41

Hi softkitty, the chip is from nike + ipod, and works with my ipod touch. The chip either goes in your shoe (if you buy the special nike trainers), or in a chip holder which attaches to your shoe laces. I got my chip and holder from amazon.com. It's just a glorified pedometer (it's not GPS), and at my level of running it's just a bit of techno-fun rather than a serious tool Grin. From my googling, they are not entirely accurate, so not to be relied on (as I found out last night when it thought I'd gone a lot further than I had) Smile.

midtowner · 30/03/2011 12:44

piste I've noticed my arms arching the last few times. Well my upper arms. Maybe [hopeful face] they will tone by themselves?

Yorkshire well done for getting out, but sorry it didn't go too well. I've done that too.

Supersal - I don?t have any waterproofs suitable for running, I just wear my normal running stuff with a hoody top or similar and a hat to stop my hair looking too wild. I?m used to playing netball in all weathers so a bit of rain doesn?t put me off.

midtowner · 30/03/2011 13:10

supersal - I wear dh's aforementioned golf jacket. It's more showerproof than waterproof, but it covers up large parts of my body Grin. I second the idea of a hat too - my hair gets very frizzy when it's damp. I don't mind if my trainers get wet/muddy, though I don't like having cold feet.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/03/2011 13:18

This is what I look like when I go running.....

Although in my heart, I actually look like this

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/03/2011 13:23

Midtowner - Is this a photo of you running? This would explain why your arms ache?!

OP posts:
happypotter · 30/03/2011 14:57

Those pics are so funny!!! I'm def in the first photo group.

Molly - don't worry about your pace. That's what I started to do and then really struggled to progress. I do most of my 'running' on the treadmill at the moment and have gone back done to plodding along at about 5.2 miles per hour. A friend said that I need to aim for 6 miles per hour so I tried that and just couldn't cope with it at all. So I've changed podcast, am now doing the nhs one, and have gone back a few weeks (just finishing week 4) and my focus is now just doing it instead of how quickly.

midtowner - Bryant Park is my most favourite place to be in the city. We spent a lot of time there last Spring when we moved over so when I go back into the city it's the first place I head to. Would love to do the Central Park route at some point, not sure where it is exactly. But it would have to involve a stop to get a hot chocolate afterwards (apparently low fat chocolate milk is very good for replenishing the muscles after a run!!!!!)

Well I've been out and did about 3.5K so am continuIng to build back up. My knee is sore but not not painful. What I really don't want is to have to give up so feel I want to be careful at the mo. But it was really good to go out even though I nearly tripped over a cat!!

OP posts:
midtowner · 30/03/2011 23:25

lol piste at the photo. That must be it!

Glad to hear you got out tonight Smile

YorkshireCrockpot · 31/03/2011 08:06

Oo hot chocs in NYC after running in central park! I've said it before andi'm saying it again- soooo jealous! Think a post run hot choc should be a new team rule.

Can't go out today to give it another go as my eye infection that I had last month has reappeared so am knocking back the left over antibiotics and eye drops. Eyes can't fall out as lids are so swollen they're being kept in. Sad

Glad to hear piste is hobbling along it would be rubbish to stop completely and every little helps.

Supersal- I refuse to run in the rain, am a lightweight!
Piste- love those pics, I'm a number 1 pic too (although feel like number 3 afterwards) and like to think I look like number 2.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 31/03/2011 08:23

Yorkshire - you could run wearing swimming goggles, so if your eye did fall out, at least you wouldn't lose it?!

This could be you!
