Welcome back sybil, tis lovely to see you! :) (bear here masquerading as a camel)

JelliBelli · 05/07/2011 22:08

Welcome back Sybil!

I was supposed to be doing W3R1 (10k) tonight but I had to leave work a little early as I was suffering from diorh upset tummy Blush, so I have retired to bed early with the laptop. Not quite sure how the runs (boom boom!) will work out this week as I am not sure I'll be up to a 3 mile run tomorrow as I haven't eaten anything today and will be a weak little kitten tomorrow Confused. I guess I'll see how I wake up in the morning.

Hope you are all faring better than me!!

encyclogirl · 05/07/2011 22:55

W6R2 tonight. 10 run 3 walk 10 run. Went fine, better than expected. Next run is a 25mins run, yikes!!!

25 mins seems like a lot.

Jelli, where did you find the couch to 10k programme? Is that on Coolrunning? Is there an app? Very interested in this programme next.

sweatybrawearer · 06/07/2011 00:30

oooh jelli hope you feel better soon!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/07/2011 06:49

Morning.... Ran for 30 mins last night but that is only 4K so I must be going quite slowly. Still the fact I can trot for 30 mins is amazing. I def need new trousers as the ones I have, apart from having Embarrasing Holes were sliding south last night Grin. Maybe we need to design running braces?

I have woken up feeling better this morning, hurrah. I am still in bed so I don't know how feeble I am yet as I haven't stood up yet ShockBlush!

Encyclogirl I am following this bupa programme. Before I started the 5k I looked around before deciding which one to follow. I don't have a new enough iPod to download apps and I preferred the bupa 5k as there were no large jumps in the time I had to run for. So I went for that one and just carried on with the 10k programme.

I was deliberating about whether to consolidate after 5k but the first few weeks of the 10k plan pretty much do that anyway, so I decided to follow it anyway.

Will report back once I have run today but not sure when that'll be. Have a good day everyone.

LinzerTorte · 06/07/2011 10:39

Hello, can I join? I started C25k a couple of months ago, got up to Week 8, ran a race (3.5k) a couple of weeks ago - and since then my motivation seems to have completely deserted me.

I've only been out running once since the race and found it really hard (maybe because I'd had a week's break). I was all set to do W8R3 this morning, but bumped into a friend who persuaded me to go to zumba with her instead. Thought I'd give it a try as I can always go running tomorrow (famous last words!), but it really wasn't my thing. At least it's made me realise how much I actually enjoy running, which I would never have thought possible before I started the programme!

Anyway, I thought that if I posted on here that I really am going to go running tomorrow, then it will force me to go out!

encyclogirl · 06/07/2011 10:50

Welcome Linzer! Yeah, I can't get on with that Zumba business either.

Jelli, thanks for that. I'll have to look at the Bupa website.

Legs feel like lead today, not sure if that's because of Shredding level 3 two days ago, or whether it's last nights run.

It's a good pain though right?

Go Linzer!

I have been a bit more sporadic the last few weeks, but when I do go out I am really enjoying it and provided I do other exercise instead (usually tennis for me) I seem to pick back up again Ok, sure you will get back into it soon.

I haven't run since last Tuesday but also intend to tomorrow, will check back in to see how you got on!

JelliBelli · 06/07/2011 19:50

Hi Linzer and VivD hope you both enjoy your runs tomorrow.

I am just off for mine, DH is working late so I am going on my own which I don't particularly enjoy - although I do run slower when he is not there!! Wink.

Will report back on my return as I have only eaten a bagel and some fruit today so I am expecting to be a bit flakey. Hey ho - at least it's stopped raining for a while.

BearGryllsBra · 06/07/2011 20:46

Hah! I knew you couldn't resist us and our doughnuts pearls of wisdom over here VivianDarkbloom! We will keep you motivated! Good luck with your journey - nine weeks from now you will be all evangelical like moi Grin.

Welcome Linzer! I quite like the sound of Zumba, but am so uncorordinated that I doubt I would be able to do it. Can do legs. Or arms. But not both at the same time.

Hope you feel a bit better Jelli, and are managing to keep some doughnuts dry toast inside you Wink.

Hello encyclo and Pistey - yy you need Bear'sBraces now - they have little hooky things that clip on to your capacious bra and stop your leggings falling down Grin - seriously, falling down leggings has got to be a good thing, surely?

Went out this morning on W6R1 (again - it's like Groundhog Day) - did NOT have my SuperMarioMushroom legs on though and found it hard going. So much so, I had to eat cakes all day at work.

Happy running!

UmBongo · 06/07/2011 21:29

Hello! I have just done week 3 run 1 of C25k this evening and even added a couple more minutes at the end cos there was a big black cloud behind me and I wasn't near enough home! Stayed dry and am now very chuffed with myself. If anyone had told me 3 weeks ago I would be running for 12 out of 30 minutes I would have said they were nuts!

The front of my shins are still hurting though. Could someone tell me that this does wear off please?

dementedma · 06/07/2011 21:43

started C25K training in March and couldn't even jog for a minute. did a Race for Life in may in 38 minutes and then another one 2 weeks ago in 32 minutes, but it nearly killed me - seriously. Since then, I have lost confidence weirdly - I mean it was a great time and all but it was SO hard I thought i was going to be sick and nearly passed out. I've done one run since but was shot after 20 minutes.
How can i get back into it and keep going, and when will it start feeling pleasurable and not a torture! I am 47 and overweight and don't want to stop now after all the hard work, but can't face doing it again.

JelliBelli · 06/07/2011 22:47

I'm back (and feeling much better thanks). It was OK. I'll settle for Ok as I don't really enjoy running (yet!) so OK is much better than hard, although I didn't have any "oh! what a lovely evening, isn't it great being out here and able to run" thoughts. I was supposed to run for 30 mins but I run at around 10mins/mile anyway so just did 3 miles and timed that instead. I did my 3 miles in 31.03 which was a minute slower than on Sunday but not bad considering my upset tummy yesterday. I must have got my energy from the banana I had with my lunch....

Hello to Umbongo and Dementedma. Sorry, I didn't suffer sore shins so I can't help you Umbongo, maybe someone else can though, what sort of pain is it? Muscular?

Demented I still don't particularly enjoy running (yet! as above) but I am in my 11th week of the programmes and it isn't as arduous as before even though I am doing much more runningwise. As I say my head doesn't enjoy it yet and I am now (wasn't a few months ago) a 'healthy' BMI so it may not be your body but your head playing mind games with you. Don't give up on the running (or we'll nag you to death) but go back a few weeks of the programme and pick up on a run that isn't too scarey and see how you go with that.

Better go DH just back from work and I need to chat with him. Enjoy your running everyone.

RatherBeOnThePea · 07/07/2011 05:36

dementedma - you sound amazing! Well done on the running Race for Life, brilliant. I think it is very easy to lose stamina - whenever I've had forced breaks, I lose it surprisingly quickly. V frustrating, but I know lots on here have found the same. Jelli is right, go back into the programme and start building up again, don't try to be too ambitious.

I am really pleased to be able to run for 30 mins, I'm not worried how far I'm going at the moment, but I am thrilled with how much fitter I feel..

YY BearGrylls - I need your BearsBraces, with the clipping device to the BearGryllsBra. Also if we could extend the BearGrylls lingerie collection into pants, I'd be a first customer. Then I'd be actively encouraging my running trousers to slide down so I could show them off. I'm thinking I could go with the low slung look.......

LinzerTorte · 07/07/2011 09:59

Thanks all for the welcome. I finally managed to get out and do W8R3 this morning, although it was far too muggy out and I'm not good at running in hot weather. It was def. easier than the last run though; I was a bit worried I might find it even more difficult as it was about a week since I last went out.

I'm also slightly worried about how I'm going to fit the running in over the summer. The DC broke up last week but have been at a sports and games camp this week so I've still had my mornings free; still another eight weeks to go, however. We're off on holiday at the weekend and I'll be packing my running gear so will have to make sure I get some use out of it.

demented I've also lost motivation since the race I ran a couple of weeks ago; it was "only" 3.5k (I worked out I was already doing around 4k on my runs) but I really felt quite ill afterwards! The first run I did after the race was hard but I feel like I'm slowly starting to get back into it again.

dementedma · 07/07/2011 20:58

I got out tonight for a run. we have switched to a new tactic. Instead of plodding along at one pace, we now do interval type stuff. We walk to one lamp-post, then jog to the next one, then sprint to the next one. We did about 50 minutes in total and it was much more enjoyable than just running one paced against the clock.
need to do another longish run before July 16th when we try our next 5K but feel a bit better after today's effort.

encyclogirl · 07/07/2011 22:41

Demented, my friend and I ran the entire Great South Run in 08 like that.

Worked for us :)

JelliBelli · 08/07/2011 22:30

Hi Everyone, it's been very quiet on the thread today are you all out running still?

I did my W3R2 today. It was better much less bad in my head than previously, although my time is reasonably consistant. I can definitely feel the improvement from finishing C25K less than three weeks ago Grin. Hurrah! I can't actually say that I enjoy it - maybe because I can't talk when I run yet as I get a stitch if I say too much. Perhaps when I can talk and run it'll be better and maybe why I 'enjoy' it differently without DH as I don't try to talk....?

LinzerTorte · 09/07/2011 07:27

Am wondering whether I have time to go out and do W9R1 (really should go now before it gets too hot) or whether I should carry on with the packing instead. Also need to pick up the DC from their sleepover, although I suppose DH could do that.

Jelli There's no way I could talk while running, but I prefer running on my own anyway. DH thinks I should take the DC out with me and can't see why that just wouldn't work when I'm doing C25k - there's no way they'd let me run 30 minutes non-stop.

LinzerTorte · 09/07/2011 08:53

Just back from running for 30 minutes for the first time ever - I managed it, but it was far too hot (32° forecast here today). Now going to collapse in a heap.

BearGryllsBra · 09/07/2011 09:46

Wow, well done Linzer! I can't talk much and run either, just concentrating on keeping breathing is hard enough Grin. And running in the heat is unlikely here in the UK - it is summer after all Grin, it would be ludicrous to expect it to be hot!

RatherBeOnThePea · 09/07/2011 10:00

quite so BearGrylsBra - ludicrous!

well done LinzerTorte

I can run for 30 mins - with no real speed and no grace or style, but it makes me happppyyyyyyyyy.

My breathing is always fine which is weird because I have asthma, controlled obviously, although today I feel like someone has laid carpet in my lungs Hmm What gets tired for me is my outer thighs, the bit down the side from my hips, what's that all about??!!
