More space for us to talk about our progress on the C25K programme, the highs, the lows, the hills, the rain, our pelvic floors and our choice of running music!

All are welcome on this international thread, stay with us and enjoy success Grin

Wow! I haven't posted in so long and there's been so much going on in this thread. I'm glad you're all still running and achieving your goals. I hope to catch up on everything properly tonight (things have been a bit hectic (but fine) lately.

SuperSal - You're doing soooo much better than me. I bought the shred DVD with the best of intentions about two months ago. Running I can do but putting the DVD in the slot and following the instructions seems beyond me. Boo!!! I'm going to try a get motivated, any tips?

Good to see there's some old faces here as well as the new. I'm still running. I did get fixated on my time to do 5k in my local park run, but I was starting to lose the joy of running. (Plus it's done as two circuits and I'm not great at retreading my steps). Have gone back to just running for a set circuit and am loving it.

Good luck to everyone who's out tonight (I'm hoping that will include me but I may be pushing it having been out for the last two nights).

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/04/2011 17:47

Am going today. First time since I went splat. My knee is still black but I'm keen to do a short one just to touch base with my running legs iyswim?!

MarniesMummy · 12/04/2011 17:49

Good luck then Piste, don't overdo it!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/04/2011 17:53

Marnie - lovely to see you! I know what you mean about losing the joy..... I'm always so pleased to have been and I certainly love feeling fitter, after the first 10mins i dont actually dislike it either. I just never seem to want to go. I'm certainly not desperate to push for 5K and def not wanting to aim for 10!

I think compared to these hardy types that I am a weedy runner Blush but
there are some amazing achievements on here. That's for sure!

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/04/2011 17:54

I went arse over tit. Blush it's the downside of running in the dark!

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/04/2011 18:34

Well I'm glad I did that. I did my half run, so about 2.5K, and although sore and feeling old, essentially it was fine!

But ( drum roll ) it was daylight!
weird actually being able to see

SSS I've ordered the shred DVD! Quite worrying, this new found exercise mania!

Hellloooo Marnie - good to see you back!

Piste - well done :)

Supersal - double well done :)

happilyeverafter · 13/04/2011 07:59

Morning all.

I am new, downloaded app, going to start next week.

Will i be ok starting off with my old trainers?

letsgetloud · 13/04/2011 20:47

w2r1 done. I had a three day break before doing it so feeling it a bit. Can't imagine ever doing any of these podcasts and finding them remotely easy. Found it hard.

Good luck to everyone still running and well done.

Tuggy · 14/04/2011 20:50

W1R1 just done (sweat still on my brow!) stumbled onto this thread by accident, it was on the 'active' list and seeing as i'm trying to lose weight and failing (no willpower too much chocolate) thought i'd join!

Downloaded it onto iphone and went straight out for a run!

I wasn't out of breath (too much) but what hurt a lot is my shins and my feet. My shins were like 'ow ow ow' with every pace. Now I'm guessing this is because they have 14.5 stone landing on them every pace Blush can anyone tell me they will stop hurting? or will they get worse or is this a problem unique to me and i'm not cut out to run!?

Anyone else with sore shins or feet?

thanks

sybilfaulty · 14/04/2011 20:51

Hello all and welcome Happily.

I was very fit when I started (or so I thought, but not as fit as you - swam 1.5 mils 2 or 3 times a week) and whilst I don't get completely puffed my legs and knees have taken a pounding. So take it easy and you'll be up and running in no time.

Bit of a break for me for various boring reasons but am looking forward to oging out tomorrow before DH goes to work. Hurray.

Keep on running everyone.

letsgetloud · 14/04/2011 21:24

Happily-I haven't bought running trainers yet. I am only w2 though, I think once I get onto w6 (if I make it) I will have faith that I am sticking to this jogging malarkey and will buy a pair.

I am a bit concerned my shins might not hold out though.

Tuggy- A few years ago I started my method of power walking, not much power in it though. I had terribly sore shins. As in, found it really, really painful to walk the next days.

I am only on w2 but my shins haven't been nearly as sore.

Hopefully one of the more experienced runners will be along soon to advise you. I am a complete novice!! I have read on previous threads something about putting ice packs or heat packs or alternating them on your shins afterwards helps.Confused I would imagine proper running shoes will help with shin pain, but as I said I am no expert.

Hope you are not in as much pain today.

happilyeverafter · 14/04/2011 21:47

Thanks for warm welcome, I did my first run, could feel tummy muscles as I ran but not uncomfortable. My right calf felt very tight/borderline uncomfortable so I slowed down.

I like the 6 week/new trainers plan letsgetloud. I am always loathe to pay out unless I know I will stick at it.

I had been freaking out a little at having over two weeks exercise free on holiday but now feel excited at using this time to get into running without worrying about it affecting my other training. Does anyone shred alongside running? I plan to shred daily on holiday so would this be best done immediately after or before a run? My instinct was to do it after so I was already warm and could follow the shred cool down stretches.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 14/04/2011 22:59

Hello, I haven't posted on here before, and haven't read the entire thread, but thought I would like to say hello.

I have never run seriously before this year, started C25K in Jan and today did Week 8 run 2, so the end is in sight. I am thoroughly enjoying it, but wondering what to do next to keep the momentum going. Not sure if I want to extend the length of time for my runs too much or I will end up not going as often, but I obviously want to increase speed and distance, so I thought joining a thread might be a good idea for ideas / motivation.

No I didn't stretch I just did the 5 minute brisk walk on the app... will stretch next time and try that thanks

sybilfaulty · 15/04/2011 08:28

I did the 6 week thing and did not invest until I was sure I was going to do it. Now I quite like it - not as much as my beloved swimming but it is much easier logistically and I can do it more frequently too.

I would def do stretching too. I really feel it when I don't. I think the cool down ones are esp important and do feel sore if I don't do them.

Did not get up in time today (something of a pattern emerging here) so am going to see if one of my teenagers could pop round for an hour this evening so I can go. Am Dukaning as well and it's working already. 2 days done and jeans looser already. Hurray!

CalamityKate · 15/04/2011 16:58

Bit disheartened.

Still on 25 mins but my last run was REALLY hard. Harder than the one before and surely I'm meant to be getting fitter and it's meant to be getting easier, not harder?!

Anyway, my legs felt like lead, I was struggling to breathe and I got horribly hot. Didn't enjoy it one bit. And my knees are sore :(

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 15/04/2011 18:55

Oooh lots to catch up on ....

Welcome happily, Tuggy and WhoKnows - you will love it here on this thread. I'm on W5R1 - did that this morning, was a complete novice when I started and I'm really enjoying it, some days I find harder than others, but was really pleased to get through today - 3 x 5 min runs. Think I bought some new running shoes about W2 as my old trainers were shot to hell - so far so good, a few aches and pains (in muscles that haven't seen the light of day for years), but nothing that's stopped me running - so far.

supersal - it (W5R1) wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be but I must admit I was whittling about it beforehand as I thought I'd never do it. Will keep my fingers crossed for you tomorrow on your 20min stint - be sure to post and tell me what I'm in for on Monday!

Calamity - don't be disheartened, you are doing fabulously well and RUNNING for 25 mins! That is fantastic! It's funny though how some days just seem easier than others, I don't know why. Next time you go out you'll probably be bounding along like a spring lamb Grin.

Well done letsgetloud, hope your shins are holding out.

Hope you manage to get out later sybil, this Dukan thing sounds interesting. The more I read about it, the more I want to lose 7lbs in a week try it.

Have a lovely weekend everyone. :)

WhoKnowsWhereTheChocolateGoes · 15/04/2011 19:18

I invested in new running shoes at week 2 because my knee did a peculiar thing and went twang, didn't hurt too much but it kept twanging for a couple of weeks so I took it as a warning. I also have a bad back so need to take care. I went to a specialist running shop (conveniently at the end of my road!) for the new shoes and they are brilliant, no more aches and pains and they are the comfiest footwear ever. Even if I give up running I'm sure I will get lots of wear out of them. Not that I'm planning to give up!

letsgetloud · 15/04/2011 23:25

Whoknows-a friend told me to get a pair of running shoes as so comfy. She advised the same, even if I did give up I walk with the kids as much as I can so would be a good investment.

Calamity- well done on 25 mins. Supersal - 20 mins of running without any breaks!! Can't think I will be able to do 3 mins next week.

Sybil- did you manage to get out?

Slutty - Well done on 5 mins run. Hoping I eventually get there. Did w2r2 tonight. Found it easier than w2r1. So here's hoping I am ok for w3.

Happy running everyone.

midtowner · 16/04/2011 02:35

Hello runners old and new Grin

Welcome to newcomers Smile

Calamity - you must have had piste's wooden legs on. it happens to me sometimes. Then the next time you go out you suddenly find the bambi bouncy legs.

I've been out twice since my accidental 10k last weekend. My problem is I go early morning before work, so I can't face food, but then I have no energy when I crawl run round my route. But it does set me up for the rest of the day, and it's a great stress-buster.
