Wow, well done on the run in that heat!

I did the Nottingham half marathon in September in 22 degree heat and almost popped from the heat and sun - just can't imagine doing it in 27 degrees without a stretcher and medics being involved!

Well done Twink on the OMM as well. Bloody impressive to get that far!

(putthehamster, nope don't think I do have the latest version of the Runmeter so will definitely check... that stop functionality would be very good to have - thanks)

Goldberry · 02/11/2010 20:49

Well done,Master and bad luck, Twink. I seem to be properly over the foot injury now. Lucky I am, because at running group tonight, my sadist of an instructor had us doing 1 minute runs, alternated with 20 seconds of high steps/ bum kicks/ press-ups. For 40 mins. Ouch.

Twink · 02/11/2010 22:16

Sounds a great workout Goldberry! Did you have to hold your arm out parallel to the ground and (try to) raise your knee high enough to hit it? It's a killer!

Goldberry · 03/11/2010 07:58

Yup, that's the one, Twink. I think the arms got lower each set though Grin. I'm aching all over this morning!

MoshiMoshi · 04/11/2010 09:01

Day 4 of the flu. Dizziness, nausea, vomiting, fever, headaches, coughing and all round grottiness. Feel like a shadow of my running self and really hoping this goes away soon. Hope everyone else stays flu-free.

Themasterandmargaritas · 04/11/2010 13:40

Oh poor you Moshi, get well soon. I have just had a flu jab. Smile Actually I shouldn't be so smug because I am still running to the loo every 5 minutes...

Goldberry I am quite Envy of your running club. I could do with that kind of pushing. Do you think I could start one? For expat wives having a mid-life crisis? Grin

sfxmum · 04/11/2010 21:56

Moshi get well soon that sounds awful

hope everyone else is keeping well

HighFibreDiet · 05/11/2010 00:55

Oh poor Moshi hope your dh is looking after you while you are ill. My dp has a habit of letting me go to bed and then sends the boys up after me so I hardly get any rest. Hmm

I have done hardly any running recently. Went to the gym earlier today and was shocked at how hard I found a 15 min run on the treadmill. I got dehydrated too and was nursing a terrible headache later in the day. I will try to look after myself better next time.

I definitely need another target to work towards, so I am aiming for a 10k in Sydney on Feb 4th (we are moving out there in January). If I don't manage to train much in Jan I might go for early March instead as the 'Sydney Striders' do one every month Feb - Nov. Then I'm hoping to work towards the Sydney half marathon - if I get a place. It sounds like the hills are pretty tough but it's good to have a challenge! Maybe I should join a running club like Goldberry's so I don't slack on my training...

I've also been going along to Tae Kwon-Do classes with ds2 and I hope we can both carry on when we get to Australia. There's a grading coming up but I think we've missed too many classes to try for a belt this time round.

HighFibreDiet · 05/11/2010 01:06

By the way I have been looking through past messages and I am definitely up for a run in Richmond Park before Christmas as it is right on my doorstep. After Christmas I will be too far away Grin.

Goldberry · 05/11/2010 13:27

Master, that sounds like a great idea. As my group were all pretty much beginners, it's been great having an instructor, but if you got together a group of more experienced runners like yourself, I don't suppose you'd need one. Mine is totally fab. She also teaches yoga, body balance and one of the martial arts (I forget which). She looks like a whippet when she's running! She seems to know when to encourage and when to push. Before I found the group, I did wonder about getting one together myself, but I don't know if you'd be in any way liable, as the 'group leader' if someone got injured or something. I you could sort of agree that nobody was actually in charge.

hatwoman · 06/11/2010 13:09

hi everyone. I'm back. scared myself by logging my runs since the race. I've had four weeks now of only doing 5 miles (1 run). now I've written it down and seen my laziness in black and white I've given myself up a kick up the bum and am going to get back to it. I might try for the race I missed in March - similar to the recent 20 miler but a bit tougher.

twink - sorry about the OMM but well done on completing the first day. moshi hope the flu goes soon.

I got my copy of The Fellrunner this morning. Had some brilliant photos in it of "sky running" in the dolomites. fancy this anyone? I can't find a pic as good as the one in the mag of the difficult bits. might see if I can scan it and put it on my profile - part of the Tre Rifugi race follows one of the via ferrata - on insane rocky slopes. (via ferrata are iron ladders and ropes put there during wwII for troops to cross the mountains). I have no head for heights. wouldn;t catch me on a via ferrata. ever.

MoshiMoshi · 07/11/2010 12:16

Oooh, hat, I could be persuaded if you were to change your mind on that one...

MoshiMoshi · 08/11/2010 07:57

Still not running or exercising. Going slightly doolally but not better yet so holding off. Hope everyone else is fine?

cestlavie · 08/11/2010 13:32

Struggling slightly with a cold as well here and hadn't been out since last Monday so was becoming just slightly, um, anxious shall we say to get back out there again.

Ran into work this morning and the heavens opened about half an hour into the run so arrived at work looking like a double drowned rat. That should work wonders for the cold... kill or cure!

Hope everyone else is doing okay.

Wheelybug · 08/11/2010 14:40

Sorry to hear about the illnesses.

I spent last week a bit unenthusiastic and lethargic so did a class tuesday, a slow 7K on the treadmill on thurs and then 8.5K early sunday although then came over all shivery and fluey and have been ever since so suspect I was trying to fight something off last week and now its taken hold. Grrrr.

peachsmuggler · 09/11/2010 22:30

Not been on here for flipping ages!

Well done Master, may I bow at your sweaty feet?

Sorry bout the OMM twink. Onwards and upwards.

Hope the flu gets better soon Moshi, sounds hideous.

I haven't run in 2 weeks Blush. have no excuse really, as it is mainly laziness. Am going tomorrow if I have to kick my own arse out the door and down the street!!

Need to get long running tights. As my 3/4 length ones are just going to give me another excuse not to get out there in this freezington weather.

Goldberry · 10/11/2010 08:11

Had a real struggle forcing myself to running group last night - the dark and the cold, windy weather did not look inviting. Really glad I went though. We must look a right bunch of nutcases bobbing along in the dark with our head torches and super luminous gear though Grin.
Ds started pre-school last week, so I can fit in a run on Friday mornings now too Smile. Happy running all, and hope the cold and flu don't last long.

MoshiMoshi · 11/11/2010 08:49

lavie and wheely - hope the lurgy has not got too bad? Week two of my virus and I no longer am feverish and just a hacking cough and wheeze with sniffles. For the first time since I have had this, I didn't wake up with a headache. I thought I might have recovered sufficiently for a little run today but I don't think I would manage ten minutes so am wondering whether to see the GP just to check I don't have something worse than I thought. Especially as I am asthmatic...

Are you out running, peachy? Did you fit in your Friday run, gold?

Happy injury lurgy free running everyone.

MoshiMoshi · 11/11/2010 08:50

gold - see how delirious I am? Asking about a Friday run on a Thursday....

notyummy · 11/11/2010 08:58

Hi all - I have been on this thread...but it was a while ago. Have juts been reading about all your exploits (and sorry to those currently with lurgies who can't run.)

I am currently struggling slightly with my hip - was interested to hear someone else mention a sore hip (M & M I think.)Have you found out what it is? My googling has come up with sacro-illiac joint as a possibility. I am still running, but have brought my miles down because I am concerned, and think I will have to visit a physio.

Up until 10 days ago I was doing between 25/30 miles a week, however this is now quite reduced. Last week I only did 12 miles, and so far this week, only a fast 3 miles (well, just under 21 minutes so fast for me!) on the treadmill. Depending on the weather, I will try and get out for a couple of 5 milers over the weekend.

It is very frustrating, as I had been pushing my distances and had got up to 10 miles for my long run, with a faster short run, and a 5 to 7 miles as well.

Happy running all!

peachsmuggler · 11/11/2010 10:38

Hurrah, I ran Moshi. Only 4 miles but I ran. Was very nice after initial shock of cold. Plannign 6 miles this weekend and then I will feel back in the game.

Glad your flu seems to be clearing up, though your second week still sounds worse than most things I've had! Don't you have thousands of children? How do you cope when you are ill? I haven't had anything worse than short lived colds and tummy bugs since having DD and just can't imagine what it would be like to be properly ill and having to look after her.

Wouldn't it be great if mumsnet had a smiley for bowing in admiration!

Hi there notyummy, sorry don't have any useful advice for your hip but wanted to say welcome back Smile

nappyaddict · 11/11/2010 22:35

Did anyone run in today's horrible wind and rain?

notyummy · 12/11/2010 09:15

I didn't nappy.

Am doing a short run today though, and it is still pretty stormy here. No rain though!

Goldberry · 12/11/2010 11:42

Wanted to do a run today, but dh needed the car today, which means a ludicrous amount of walking for me today (40 min walk to school/pre-school, then home, then back again to pick up ds, then home, then back again to pick up dd, then home. Phew!) Thank goodness this is very much a one-off. I think I'm excused a run today though.

sfxmum · 12/11/2010 11:47

here it is not stormy or wet just grey and dull, am waiting for dh to come home so we can go for run together
I have been horribly lazy lately Blush
