I'm ashamed to admit I've been out twice since my race. better than nothing I guess. but need to pick it up again before I lose all that hard earned fitness.

good time for your race Mrs W - very impressive

gizmo · 20/10/2010 22:33

Must say I'm impressed at those of you with trainers which are fit to be seen in a social context: mine are generally muddy & pungent - and not in a good way. Tend to compromise with my walking boots, which are still lovely & comfy, even after 10 years.

Hatwoman isn't it a good thing to take a break after a race? Just for a little while?

MoshiMoshi · 21/10/2010 08:20

Hello all. Great race time, weds!

hat - a rest is not so bad I have realised as I am struggling with tight calves, ITBs and hip flexors from constant running and seeing a physio who punctures me with her acupuncture needles as my knee is playing up (from all that tightness, as well as that weak
Glute) the way things hurt because of something somewhere else being responsible. Not much running going on here and just some hockey and Bootcamp while I try to get myself in good shape ready for marathon training.

Happy injury free running everyone !

New to here, so hello everyone.

Gorgeous looking weather out there for running! Maybe it's just me but autumn mornings are the best time to be out running. Cold, crisp and bright... much nicer than sweltering your way through hot summer runs. Hope it stays this way tomorrow for (a slightly longer) run tomorrow morning.

Might have a look for some decent gloves this lunchtime me thinks - holding a chilled bottle of Lucozade sport in already cold hands felt a little nippy this morning...

Happy running everyone!

sfxmum · 21/10/2010 16:57

hello all just quick keep in touch

mrsW well done sounds like a really good race

regarding cold weather running my biggest problem is a near constant runny nose, it is maddening, I wear gloves too fairly thin ones, unless really cold, for the start and end of run otherwise my hands hurt

putthehamster sorry yes for some reason though mrsW had changed her name, forgive the confusion

I really need to enter a race, I have been going for shortish runs on average 3x a week and am slightly bored, goal is the way to go

sfxmum · 21/10/2010 17:00

regarding footwear I am normally in boots my all time favourite all sort of different ones might be a fetishHmm

Wheelybug · 21/10/2010 17:53

Hmm..well I've bought some, even more supportive insoles so as to not look like a spanner on the school run Grin. So back in boots today -phew Grin.

A boring 5 miles in the gym today.

The Brighton 10K is full up so I have avoided that one. DH or I might do a wimbledon 10K in Dec but looks a bit hilly so I might persuade DH he wants to do it Grin.

SFX - I'm going to do the Kingston breakfast run (only the 8.2 miles) in March - how about it ?

Wheelybug · 21/10/2010 17:55

Welcome C'estlavie - by the way Smile.

And, I also forgot to say well done to MrsW on your run. Certainly not slow and steady !! I am having trouble with my pc because it is so full so it is not behaving with showing websites all the time so I am reading more than I am posting... Must get a harddrive thingymajig...

sfxmum · 21/10/2010 18:45

wheely had a look and it is a real possibility thanks

gizmo · 21/10/2010 20:43

Gloves! Of course!

An End to My Cold Finger Misery is At Hand! (if you'll forgive the pun). Now all I need to do is remember to put the b*ggers on before I get a mile away from home.

Hello Cestlavie, and yes I agree this is a fab time of year for running...the most beautiful frosty blue morning this morning, nearly made up for rather sore quads.

Oh, and if any of you are the lady I saw running with a double buggy containing an approx 4 and 2 year old this morning....serious, serious respect

Themasterandmargaritas · 25/10/2010 17:24

hello all, I haven't had time to keep up with you all recently. Mrs W, the time is amazing I am quite Envy.

We have just been at the beach and so I did 4 x 8k in super sweaty conditions, 29 deg and 90% humidity. Half marathon on Sunday, I need a bit of a mental boost I think, to make it round as I've got a hectic week ahead.

popsycal · 25/10/2010 19:08

v jealous of all yourrunning

must make time..i so need to mentally

MrsWednesday · 27/10/2010 15:30

Thanks for lovely words about my race time Smile

Suffering here as well so I'm also 'resting' (i.e. eating an awful lot and doing no running). Hip problem again, legs aren't up to it these days! I'm off to see the chiropractor at the weekend and will make an appointment for the gait analyst too, as I want to run more than my body is letting me which is v frustrating!

Fab weather for running too! Grrrrrrrrr.

cestlavie · 27/10/2010 16:04

Just as an aside, saw talk on here about the Runmeter app for the iPhone. Oh my god, it is BRILLIANT!

Have been mulling over asking for a Garmin for Christmas but this app is only £2.99 and so great, especially if you're a little freak about tracking your running (um, like me).

Not absolutely perfect... some of the split times felt a bit off and you can't easily pause it for city running but absolutely fantastic little bit of kit for the price. Definitely recommend if anyone's thinking about it.

(Very nice run this morning as well, though reminded me that the season of running through the dark is rapidly coming upon us...)

sfxmum · 27/10/2010 17:24

hello all

half term and busted boiler making it very hard to run and be fit to be around polite company, but hopefully all sorted tomorrow fingers crossed

happy running

Themasterandmargaritas · 27/10/2010 19:28

Aaarrgghhhh I've got a sore hip. I did 10k this afternoon and now it's sore. Will it be ok for Sunday?

Should I change my shoes to the other pair?

gizmo · 28/10/2010 21:33

Seems like there's an injury bug going around! masterm my personal approach would be to rest the hip in this situation, possibly with a little test run on the day before the race, and then go for it, but it depends if you have a campaign of races lined up for after your 10k.

Not enough action here, either, I'm afraid. One short run round Ullswater on Sunday (beautiful but very slow) and a pace 4.5 workout last night, otherwise nada. But I'm incredibly, grimulously tired at the moment: finding it very easy to make excuses Blush

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 30/10/2010 07:33

Cestlavie - have you got the latest version of runmeter, with stop detection turned on?

It does all that tedious stop start for you and tells you how much stop time during your run too :)

Only way back to uk today .... Have managed a short run in amongst much sangria so don't feel entirely guilty about the holiday excesses....

Themasterandmargaritas · 31/10/2010 14:06

Fifth half marathon completed, a PB of 2hrs 4 (I think) including a loo stop with a queue, I beg of you, can people not wee a bit quicker? It was mega hot though, around 27 degrees.

The resulting tummy/bottom aftermath has not been nice. Grin

I hope all are becoming injury free and enjoying autumn running. Envy

Twink · 31/10/2010 20:29

Well done Master!

Glad someone has some good news as I was forcibily medically retired from the OMM at the overnight camp last night. Couldn't lift my leg without picking it up so it made the last few miles quite tricky - but I was NOT going to give up until we got through the first day!

Highly recommend the event to you guys though, organisation was suberb and the marshalls & medics were fantastic. I'm just completely gutted that we couldn't do Day 2 - doesn't come naturally to me to quit, as most of you know, but I'd have been a danger to my team partner as well as myself and the Mountain Rescue crew that would have ended up being called so really it was a no-brainer. Hoping my compression tights work miracles so I can train later this week - will report back!

Roll on OMM 2011!!!

Wheelybug · 31/10/2010 20:46

Well done M&M, especially in that heat !! I was only thinking today whilst running in the rain that that is preferable to running in the heat (not that obv there's much of that here at any time !!)

Commiserations Twink - at least you'll know what to expect next time ! Hope you're not too hard on yourself.

Not much to report here - only 2 runs this week due to half term but 8.5K and 10K. Now feeling like 10K isn't a hard distance so need to start increasing. Although having twingey knees. DD1 is off to a party in a couple of weeks on the edge of Richmond Park so planning a loop (7.25 miles I think) whilst she's there.

Themasterandmargaritas · 01/11/2010 18:29

Oh Twink, what a pity after all that training and determination. However frankly to get through one day of that is a miracle in itself! Respect. Smile

I prayed for it to rain yesterday, no such luck. I put my regular shoes back on and not a twinge from my hip. Wheely perhaps you should change shoes? Sounds like you can easily manage 10k now, the last 1km is all in your head. Grin

MrsWednesday · 01/11/2010 22:29

Fabulous TMM, amazing time - I have no idea how you manage to run in temperatures that hot!

Well done Twink, for doing a full day and also knowing when to stop Smile - hope the injury improves v quickly.

Saw my chiropractor on Saturday, he said I'd trapped something in my hip, and after a painful five minutes says he has sorted it. Should be back pounding the pavements in a few days.

Hope everyone else's injuries are clearing up and you're all running in this lovely autumn weather.

MoshiMoshi · 02/11/2010 11:55

Well done, master, on a new PB! Very impressive on that heat.

Your effort in the OMM sounds amazing, Twink, and I am glad you don't sound too annoyed at having to have pulled out. Better to be safe than sorry.

I am struggling with my ongoing knee injury which is due to a weak glute/over pronating etc. I am focusing on using the next six weeks before my marathon schedule starts to try and strengthen weaknesses and rehabilitate myself so I can train properly. It is very frustrating! Some days I am fine and other days I struggle to run 3 miles without feeling it.

Happy injury free running to you all!

Twink better luck next time am sure you will make it

M&M great time and in that heat
I do very badly in heat go all faint and weird and I come from a warm country

still going along here I enjoy this season quite pretty and not too cold
