sfxmum · 07/10/2010 21:28

well actually being in a recession maybe take a hip flask

peachsmuggler · 07/10/2010 21:31

Congrats pass - no marathon plans here yet but loads of good advice from the more experienced gals am sure!

Need to run tomorrow.

Am loving the idea of meeting up for a run with everyone, that would be sooo much fun. We can eat Moshi's dust! Ha ha.

Richmond and Nairobi both work for me Wink

sfxmum · 07/10/2010 21:34

or in my case eating the dust that Moshi's dust generates

MoshiMoshi · 07/10/2010 21:53

We should try to set a date early before diaries fill up as is usually the case.

Twink · 07/10/2010 22:51

Indeed we should Moshi. Are we thinking this year or next? (Apologies if I've missed a bit, knackered after Open Evening tonight)

We could do a Dec run complete with tinsel and antlers...

Nairobi sounds fab but given my current commitments would be a tad tricky!

Been practising putting up our tent for the OMM, but plague has been getting in the way of training. Did 10k on Tues to try to clear sinuses and reduce fever but nothing since so going for a full day tomorrow as we've got a working from home INSET: weight training then spinning then climbing :o :o

sfxmum · 08/10/2010 09:18

rather if it were next year if at all possible

hatwoman · 08/10/2010 12:04

am loving the idea of meeting up but one thing worries me: how do I know that none of you are hairy-handed truckers?

Wheelybug · 08/10/2010 13:11

Just think how fast you'll run Hat if you discover we are Grin

Wheelybug · 08/10/2010 13:12

"Did 10k on Tues to try to clear sinuses and reduce fever" Twink - are you mad ? lemsip is betterGrin

Twink · 08/10/2010 23:48

Wheely, according to MiniT, yes I am - I did a climbing course in Wales earlier in the year and when I got back got 'So Mum, did you meet anyone else as mad as you?' She's just been 11..
Had a fab day (apart from the snot), an Inset day when we were working from home (I'm P/T, so was also owed some pro-rota time) if we'd completed our performance management targets. Dropped MiniT for her bus at 7.45, was in gym by 8am doing a kettlebell session interspersed with burpees and press-ups using a medicine ball for hands. Then did a spinning and abs class, had a coffee and a banana with the ladies before heading down to the climbing wall. Got four lead climbs done, as well as a few top-roped warm-ups. I WILL have done enough to qualify as a Climbing Wall Instructor soon!

It's summertime again! 14.75 miles in Richmond Park. Glorious!

My musings on our run: next year would give us more time to book the slot in the diary (but does that also mean more opportunity to then have to drop out because of unforeseeable but important events such as weddings/christenings/funerals) but there is something quite nice about a meeting before Christmas which, to me, sums up what our little running club is about. That is to say, unconditional support and good cheer with a common theme that bonds us all together.

OP posts:
Twink · 10/10/2010 20:27

Hmm, maybe we should think of, gulp, more than one run ? Pre-Christmas for those that can, then once it's been verified that there are no hairy-handed truckers amongst us (or any that are, are genuine runners too Wink), we could plan a bigger event?

Had an odd run today, MiniT and I went Hashing. Did it once before, years ago and not convinced it's 'my' thing. It's certainly not time efficient, no chance to get into your stride, no contamplative thinking time and so bl**dy loud! It was a beautiful day, and I love off-road running but all that yomping and 'on-on' stuff leaves me a bit bewildered, not to mention the 'down-down' in the pub afterwards..

sfxmum · 10/10/2010 20:48

ok then may I suggest we find a suitable venue for afters first?Grin one with Christmassy delights then go with it

hatwoman · 10/10/2010 21:00

just a thought: another option might be to all do a race - maybe the kingston one. and then perhaps do something sociable afterwards. although the downside of that might be that we wouldn;t actually run together. (my tendency to suggest sw london venues is partly because I think a few of us are there anyway; secondly because I used to be there and could stay with friends; and partly because I know it's nice - but am very open to other suggestions)

peachsmuggler · 11/10/2010 09:22

Am liking the idea of a pre-xmas meetup, and SW London works for me!

Not sure about race as would be nice to run and chat (Moshi, you'll be on your own love!) so maybe a Richmond Park run migh be good and people can join in for any distance they wish?

MoshiMoshi · 11/10/2010 11:49

Am up for it! Especially as I live in West London so a Richmond Park foray is very doable for me in terms of getting there and getting someone to watch the kids, as is any race. Speaking of races, anybody care to join me for the Bath Half on 6 March? Very popular, flat and fast and perfectly timed for an April marathon!

just popping back in to say thanks for the encouragement ...

I ended up not doing any running from Tuesday till Sunday, but I got round the 10k in 1:03:31 - not that fast I know, but I was happy for a first race Grin

Seems a bit odd to be described as a "veteran" though - I would have thought that was much older than me Blush

Themasterandmargaritas · 11/10/2010 17:54

They were hashing here on our estate tonight Twink. A total waste of running time. Running is for running and going out on the lash is for beer time. They don't go together.

hatwoman · 11/10/2010 18:07

oh moshi: "unconditional support and good cheer with a common theme that bonds us all together." that's so lovely!

Wheelybug · 11/10/2010 18:24

Well done Hamster - that's great !!

I did have to google 'hashing' - does sound somewhat bizarre !!

I'm getting back to running tomorrow - wanted to take a week off after the run so did classes/swam but now going to do a 2 week rolling programme of 5/7/8, 7/8/10 with some of the weekend runs replaced by sa lap of Richmond Park which I think is about 12K. After christmas I'll start running a bit further in preparation for the 8.2 miles of the kingston breakfast run. Then Great South run in October (10 miles). I'm one for a slow build up Grin.

Some advice from cycly people - I want a bike for christmas (no I'm not 10 !). I want one that is not too expensive and I can use to at least do the london to brighton (which I understand you can do on almost anything) but at some point I'd like to try a triathlon but won't realistically be for a while so do I just get something cheap and cheerful for now and then upgrade at some point or get something that would do a basic/entry level triathlon now ?? It would be good to get one that I can put dd2 on the back of but does that mean you can only get a shopper type bike ??
