Brexit

Can someone give me one benefit of Brexit.

It's going to be 4 years since we withdrew our membership in European Union. Apart from the passport colour (some people might prefer) can anyone name one positive change which happened since then.

So, are the EU concerns over chlorine washed chicken and hormone treated beef justified, or is it protection of profits?

They're justified, because nobody (except Brexiteers who want to profit from it) wants it over here. Trying to argue otherwise really shows up just how desperate you've become...

GlobeTrotter2000 · 09/01/2024 17:28

@Daftasabroom Utter garbage, and you know it. The treatment of NI by the UK government, and absolutely zero benefit for the US killed it off.

The maximum benefit for the UK was estimated at 0.6% of GDP.

UK has stated they will not enter into any deals that involve US factory farms. The link is:

Not an argument, but a question.

Is the EU ban on chlorinated chicken and hormone treated beef based on scientific evidence (as opposed to opinion or scare mongering) that it is harmful to health, or is it to prevent cheaper alternatives entering the EU?

HannibalHeyes · 09/01/2024 17:39

As I said, it's based on scientific evidence.

Case closed.

Why would a deal be dependent on US factory farms?

Claiming otherwise is either incredibly ignorant or deliberately disingenuous.

Talkinpeace · 09/01/2024 20:57

@GlobeTrotter2000
Why do you keep raising points that the rest of us put to bed several years ago ?

And why do you still wilfully misunderstand the principle of statistical sampling ?

Amazed you have to ask this - just another reminder that your job appears to be pretending things are not as awful as they seem rather than looking at facts.

GlobeTrotter2000 · 10/01/2024 13:12

@Talkinpeace And why do you still wilfully misunderstand the principle of statistical sampling

Maybe because it often fails.

@Daftasabroom Why would a deal be dependent on US factory farms?

Check with Sunak, but make it quick as he may not be around much longer.

@Zonder just another reminder that your job appears to be pretending things are not as awful as they seem rather than looking at facts.

If UK is not going to make deals that involve US methods, who cares?

HannibalHeyes · 10/01/2024 13:44

Ah, more non-sequiturs...

Zonder · 10/01/2024 17:04

HannibalHeyes · 10/01/2024 13:44

Ah, more non-sequiturs...

I was about to say the same thing.

I thought we were discussing whether "the EU ban on chlorinated chicken and hormone treated beef based on scientific evidence (as opposed to opinion or scare mongering) that it is harmful to health, or is it to prevent cheaper alternatives entering the EU?" which is a question in its own right and not connected to deals we make with the US.

The link provided makes the comment:

Zonder · 10/01/2024 17:45

Still not related to your actual question.

Jason118 · 10/01/2024 20:12

Razor clams.

HannibalHeyes · 10/01/2024 20:26

I know! What a Brexit benefit that is!

Jason118 · 10/01/2024 20:50

I tried some once, my chin was a right mess afterwards.

Daftasabroom · 10/01/2024 22:22

@GlobeTrotter2000Check with Sunak, but make it quick as he may not be around much longer.

I thought I'd go straight to the horses mouth and check with yourself - after all you raised it. I mean you wouldn't raise an argument without an understanding of the issue, would you,? Or maybe you would,?

As soon as I heard this, I thought of this thread Grin

GlobeTrotter2000 · 11/01/2024 09:41

@Daftasabroom I mean you wouldn't raise an argument without an understanding of the issue, would you,? Or maybe you would,?

It was a question. Not an argument.

Overall view seems to be that there are genuine concerns over both chlorine washed chicken and hormone treated beef.

There are many reasons why cancer can occur, but both Australia (highest in the World) and the US (forth in the World) have more cases of cancer than the UK (12th in the World).

Glad you've answered your own question now @GlobeTrotter2000 I did find it strange that you were questioning the issue of chlorinated chicken previously.

So we can lay that one to rest as not being a benefit of Brexit and get back to the topic.

GlobeTrotter2000 · 11/01/2024 10:47

@Zonder and get back to the topic.

So, reply to the OP question. Others have.

The OP came on page 7 of this thread to thank all for the wonderful answers, but left to start another thread on AI.

Oh I would, if only I could think of any real benefits to us as a country.

Are we only allowed to start one thread at a time? Or perhaps the OP got their answer and realised just how feeble the benefits are.

One thing I've learnt about Leave voters is that econimic damage doesnt matter. There was a poll ages ago amoungst Tory party members and along with other things they thought Brexit was worth (including violence returning to NI and the break up of the UK) they said their own children loosing their livelyhoods was a price worth paying.

Yes, the old "I'm alright, Jack" crowd...
