It's going to be 4 years since we withdrew our membership in European Union. Apart from the passport colour (some people might prefer) can anyone name one positive change which happened since then.

Indeed, your wish is their command www.gov.uk/government/news/pints-of-wine-stocked-on-britains-shelves-for-the-first-time-ever

Peregrina · 27/12/2023 08:24

Indeed so. We will soon be able to buy champagne in pint bottles. Just got to persuade those foreign Frenchies to start making pint bottles for their champagne. This should of course be easy, because we hold all the cards.

jgw1 · 27/12/2023 08:35

Its a triumph of English enginuity.

HannibalHeyes · 27/12/2023 09:23

Oh...

The government has confirmed it is not planning to change the rules on selling in imperial measures after Brexit, after nearly 99% of respondents to an official consultation said they were happy with kilos and litres.

Metric measurement rules to stay after Brexit review

But the government has announced it will move away from EU-era rules on wine bottle sizes in shops.

I particularly like the subtle trolling in later stating the figure to be "98,75%"

And it says something that the Brexiteers couldn't even muster 2% in favour.

Zonder · 27/12/2023 10:30

Perhaps we could also move back to good old pounds, shillings and pence. And farthings and guineas and crowns...

When this arsery started, I said the quickest way to kill it was to make it a package deal.

most people start panicking when you remind them it was 2 sixpences in a shilling up to a 10 shilling note.

That's just the left tofu bleating wokers at the BBC continuing to peddle their pro-EU biases.

Curiously I see it as the reverse. That article is headlined and written to make it look as if Brexit is still the best thing since sliced bread. You need to read it a little more closely to winkle out what it's really saying about Brexit still being a crock o'shite. It's the sort of thing Clav would wave around in their local as "proof" that Brexit was worth it.

I see it as my role to be a Brexiteer and fill that void when our regular friends of that persuasion are on holiday from their work.

I wish to protest about @jgw1 in the strongest possible terms. All right thinking people abhor these attempts to confuse us all! Something or other must be done. Excuse the crayon , they won't let us have anything sharp in here.

Protesting is unfortunately banned as it upsets Rishi who has a particularly delicate constitution.

Unless it is him protesting about the Greek PM's meeting with Keir Starmer by being a complete petulant child and cancelling his own meeting. That kind of protest is apparently fine 🤦‍♂️

That was not protesting, that was an important international gesture to demonstrate that Britain Sunak is a complete weakling not to be messed with.

@Kendodd Result, they all say that yes, brexit has had a negitive affect on supplies.

So, how do you explain that Ireland is also experiencing occasional supply shortages?

what I found was from Euronews.com.

GlobeTrotter2000 · 28/12/2023 11:34

@HannibalHeyes

The Guardian link you have provided is titled:

What the UK wants for Christmas is to get Brexit undone William Keegan

However, I can't find any evidence in the article which demonstrates the UK wants to get Brexit undone. Did William Keegan sooke to everyone in the UK before they wrote the article? I would say they had not.

The article ends with:

As I have reported before, Brexit will knock anything from 4% to 6% off GDPthe nation’s productive potential. This has huge ramifications for the revenue Labour will need to achieve its ambition to rescue the economy. Labour’s aim and slogan should be, loud and clear: “Get Brexit undone!”

The wording I have highlighted is yet another prospective forecast of what might happen and what the outcomes maybe be as opposed to historical evidence.

Labour think otherwise and have made clear that rejoin will not be part of their campaign for the next GE.

Thatcher? Brexit? This isn’t the way to Labour hearts | William Keegan

Tory policy has caused huge damage over the decades. In praising it, Starmer has ventured too far behind enemy lines

@HannibalHeyes

Take a look at

Do pensioners in the rest of the EU get more cash than the elderly in the UK? - Full Fact

Pensions in France, Germany and Spain were higher than UK before the 2016 referendum as those countries spent more of their GDP on pensions. Also, taxes are higher in France and Germany than the UK. So, pension should be higher. Ultimatley, as with all state pensions, the more you pay in the more you receive later.

Pensions are difficult to compare internationally, and there are several different ways to do it.

Bugger! Christmas break is over in St Petersburg...

GlobeTrotter2000 · 28/12/2023 12:00

@Flyhigher

I'm sick of trying to win over Brexiteers.

Since the result of the 2016 referendum, remain supporters have not been able to convince leave supporters to change their minds. That the LibDems did not receive 16.1 million votes (the same number as those who voted remain in 2016) in the 2019 GE tells me very few had changed their minds.

It's failed. It's a disaster. Let's rejoin.

If there is evidence that it is a disaster/failure for everyone, why have remain supporters been unable to win over Brexiters?

Let's get Brexit undone.

Leave supporters may argue that Brexit has not had a fair crack of the whip due to World events such as COVID and wars pushing up energy prices.

We need slogans and spin doctors. And liars.

I would say that neither the leave nor the remain campaigns were squeaky clean.
