(previous thread)

That's "king" as a suffix not a prefix. Also part of a phrase.

Discussions may have gone better if the UK Government had actually decided what Brexshit should look like before sending clueless Frost et al in to negotiate...

HannibalHeyes · 12/03/2024 14:17

We were only ever at the mercy of the EU from that point. All this "we hold all the cards" bullshit was as much use as "taking back control"...

The thing is, people in Spain actually get services for their taxes, they are not used just to pay Tory party donors like they are over here...

GlobeTrotter2000 · 13/03/2024 14:08

UK's public services index is slightly better than Spain, but far behind France and Germany. Link is:

Public services index in Europe | TheGlobalEconomy.com

Greece and Italy have higher taxes than UK, but lower public services index. Howver, in general, countries which have a higher public services index than the UK also have higher taxes.

How do UK tax revenues compare internationally? | Institute for Fiscal Studies (ifs.org.uk)

Guess it comes down to what people want? Not that it excuses money wasted by Sunak on his crack pot schemes.

Public services index in Europe | TheGlobalEconomy.com

The average for 2023 based on 41 countries was 2.86 index points. The highest value was in Ukraine: 7.3 index points and the lowest value was in Iceland: 0.9 index points. The indicator is available from 2007 to 2023. Below is a chart for all countri...

How are climate change and COVID relate to the entire planet which is made up of Approx. 195 Countries

Brexit relates to the EU and UK. A total of 28 Countries.

How are they connected?

borntobequiet · 14/03/2024 08:36

How are they connected?

In that they constitute succeeding enormous hits to our economy. Brexit has weakened the UK economy in a unique way, making us more vulnerable than other countries to the increasing problems associated with climate change.

Great news from our Secretary for Business and Trade!!!!

The UK has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with the great state of Texas

DuncinToffee · 14/03/2024 08:46

Express: "Kemi Badenoch to sign huge trade deal with Texas today in Brexit victory"

Business Post (Ireland): "UK pens ‘tokenistic’ Texas trade pact in post-Brexit bid to keep US on side"

One of the above has read the situation correctly, and it's not the Express.

SerendipityJane · 14/03/2024 09:56

Anyone with a passing knowledge of the US constitution will know that foreign treaties (i.e. trade deals) are very much the gift of the federal government.

This is a monster raving loony party of UK and US headbangers who clearly can't read.

Again, any decent journalist would have pointed this out to their editor to ensure a more accurate headline. Which should really involve a reference to mutual masturbation.

"UK and Texas beat each other off to win trade deal"

(er shouldn't that be "beat others off" sir ?)

Just print it son ...

Some good news that has been kept quiet

UK has joined the EU’s ‘Chips Joint Undertaking

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/35-million-boost-for-british-semiconductor-scientists-and-businesses-on-international-chip-research

It's quite fun to push the narrative that if the UK were to rejoin the EU it would be by stealth and that things like this would be a tiny inch towards that. Mainly because it causes Brexiloons to froth at the mouth and swivel their eyes to no effect. As the PP noted, this is a sneak announcement. They've still got Lee Anderthal, small boats and Reform to write about.

Don't malign the real Monster Raving Loony Party - they have got more sensible ideas that the current bunch of idiots who are placeholders in Government.

It's time we had an election and put the current Government out of its misery.

GlobeTrotter2000 · 14/03/2024 13:10

@Peregrina It's time we had an election and put the current Government out of its misery.

But will the next government be any better? Many I know and work with are not sure who to vote for in the next election.

borntobequiet · 14/03/2024 13:39

But will the next government be any better?

It could hardly be worse.
“They’re all as bad as one another”, and similar, is one of those sayings often deployed by people who want to discourage active participation in or understanding of politics and the electoral process in this country, by those who want to control it themselves.

Of course they are...

Jason118 · 14/03/2024 15:17

There's a few people at my workplace who don't know who to vote for. However, they all know who they won't be voting for, guesses anyone?

GlobeTrotter2000 · 14/03/2024 15:27

@Jason118 However, they all know who they won't be voting for, guesses anyone?

Conservatives will be voted out as a protest. A low turnout and a Labour win is my best guess.

Jason118 · 14/03/2024 15:41

Many will turn out to vote as a protest against how crap our country has become, who wouldn't normally vote. I don't think it will be a low turnout at all. Time will tell.

Talkinpeace · 14/03/2024 16:16

May elections - Locals and PCC are for protest votes
General Election will be October

(there are no other months it can feasibly be)

The longer Rish! leaves it the less chance there is it will be Rish! that leads it.

Already some more alert Tories have realised that every time Rish! touches anything, their rating dip that little bit more.

And the harder the Tories lose, the more hatstand they will become. 200 MPs might deliver a moderate leader. 150 less so. 100 are guaranteed to deliver an absolute headbanger. And with that their reelection slips another 4 years.
