The Mail threw a hissy fit about those flags tooGrin

A chirpy supplier alerted me to this yesterday. His thoughts (as someone with Indian heritage) were that a desperate UK will give anything away in trade deals now.

Obviously the optics of returning the bling make it impossible - so how about unlimited visas instead ? Oh, and you know those entry requirements ? I'm sure you will relax those for us, won't you ?

Sorry, we'd love to shut the door on our way out, but here comes Pakistan. I imagine they want what we've just got.

Enjoy your empire.

India threatens colonial 'reckoning' for Britain

The reclamation of historical artefacts - such as the Koh-I-Noor diamond and a tablet of the Buddha's footprints - is a primary objective of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration.

@SerendipityJane my co working hub is full of southern Asians doing their visa applications. No it isn't single young men- but it is large families plus granny - these will all need medical plus housing and I may be wrong but they don't appear to be brain surgeons either. Now I wouldn't have such an issue with this if it wasn't for the fact we've tanked the economy and lost all our rights for living /working in Europe to give humongous amounts of visas to a place very few of us would ever want to live/ work. The population voted for a total pup, we now get people here who will undoubtedly stay, not just young fit qualified , people often here for a few years. . And I hope all those tradesmen who liked the idea of getting rid of competition understand that they too will lose out if there was ever an Auf wiedersehn situation again- they can't just do a contract in the Netherlands.

Sounds about right.

And as the immigrants get older and need care, we will need to import more.

Personally it strikes me as a fair exchange that if I can't get to visit a load of exotic places, then their peoples can come to me and tell me tales of wonder - tell me the secrets that they hold.

However, as optics were mentioned, I suspect the sight of the UKs first PM of Asian descent bending over and straining in order that the foreign cock of other Asian countries has a graceful entry up the UKs backside may prompt some very un-PC behaviour from his own party. Which the more observant and less flappable amongst us will notice has already begun.

Here we go. Cruella Braverman has used a ministerial power to directly overrule parliament.

Let that sink in.

We are no longer a democracy.

So much for "sovereignty", eh Brexshitteers?

Crikeyalmighty · 13/05/2023 21:44

@SerendipityJane cant help wonder as well if they think all these families from developing countries will turn into nice good little Tory's when they get their citizenship- which no doubt they will all go for.

I wasn't talking citizens with the right to vote. I was talking immigrants who - most pointedly - don't have the right to vote.

The Tory nirvana is a country where the people that do the work have zero agency. Despite the continual drive to disenfranchise our own working class, they still have a nasty habit of voting. And even with the gerymandering, the vote rigging and the occasional 800 votes lost, there is still too great a risk of not winning.

So the next step is to swell the country with workers who will never have the chance to improve their lot.

And frankly if you immigrate to the UK, and despite Windrush don't get citizenship, then your critical thinking is on a par with the Brexiteers who invited you here.

Project Actual Reality continues.

Farmers and Tory Ministers are now urging Sunak to allow more immigration and higher food prices to save what’s left of the UK farming economy. That’s because, as predicted, Brexit has completely fucked it.
Farming was already under huge pressure before Brexit and Covid, and now many UK farms have gone out of business. Many in the remainder are trying to manage unpicked crops that they can’t employ labour to harvest.

A cynic might say that, looking at their record in government on this over the past 13 years, the Tories seem to want to drive the UK even further into food insecurity.

Ministers call for immigration and UK food prices to increase

Exclusive: Sunak urged to take urgent action to solve food crisis at meeting with Defra and farmers

I see Andrew Neill (reliable as ever) is tweeting that "Leavers and Remainers" could not have foreseen the surge in immigration after Brexit.

He really should have just tweeted "I am a dozy cunt", as one of Project Fears bullet points was leaving the EU would - by necessity - drive up non-EU immigration.

And he is the media ....

HannibalHeyes · 15/05/2023 17:54

Yay! Rocco Forte, supporter of the Nat C's, campaigned to take away our Freedom of Movement, but is going to use his to bugger off now it's all turned to shit...

Poor Rees-Mogg. It's finally dawned on him that their attempts to rig elections (which he was a party to) by introducing voter ID to solve a non existent problem has gone and backfired on them.

Local elections 2023: Voter ID backfired on Tories, says Rees-Mogg

As above, so much for "sovereignty", let alone democracy...

HannibalHeyes · 16/05/2023 00:07

There we go, from the horse's mouth Brexshit has failed says Fartage.

Lots of mealy mouthed excuses, but no self realisation that it was all his fault, and that it was never going to work because it was a fucking stupid idea...

Indeed, @HannibalHeyes (ref Suella Braverman's dictatorial powers).

And yet the government makes a big show of supporting brave little Ukraine's fight for western values...

Braverman illustrating the importance of being careful what you wish for.

This is especially necessary when what you wish for is to have your cake and eat it too. Banishing low skilled migrant workers means no fruit or veg grown on British farms.

Peregrina · 16/05/2023 08:55

What Braverman won't realise is that fruit picking was often done by roving gangs of travellers, who no doubt were as welcome as current E European fruit pickers are. Also before the war there used to be a tradition of East Enders going down to Kent for the hop picking season, as a sort of working holiday. That world has now disappeared.

HannibalHeyes · 16/05/2023 13:02

The Nat C's pivot from "our country is full" to "there aren't enough babies" is quite something to behold...

Exasperatednow · 16/05/2023 13:39

It is all desperately uncomfortable and depressing.

Farmers want a fair price for eggs and horticultural products. Production costs have risen - cheap seasonal labour isn't available any more thanks to government policy, and supermarkets want to squeeze farmers to increase their own margins. Plus, there are no more EU subsidies.

It's hard to square a circle when you're a government driven by ideology.

Is the hollow promise of taking farmers' interests into account in 'future trade deals' (mwahaha) going to fool anyone?
