Part 10 of our long running thread.
I'm still putting my money on a spring GE.
The tory slash and burn of the UK is right on track.
Bon chance my friends!

Just what is the point of the utterly useless and pointless Jacob Reese Smug? He can’t even get his bonfire of the vanities through a majority held parliament. For the life of me it’s a mystery how he keeps getting re-elected as a MP. A mockery of our system of representative government.

I know!
Can you imagine living in North Somerset and actually voting for him!

LouiseCollins28 · 10/04/2023 14:07

Thanks for sharing that. Reading various Twitter threads about Trigger Cut not arriving in the UK to tour, coz they haven't got the right papers to show, while playing the Dad's Army theme music in the background is a beautiful, beautiful thing.

HannibalHeyes · 10/04/2023 18:24

Ah, STOP THE BOATS was meant to be STOP THE BANDS.

Meanwhile, Louise is obviously deliriously happy to see all the small boats of asylum seekers grow exponentially...

borntobequiet · 10/04/2023 19:07

I know!

Whenever I read this, in my head it sounds like the Dead Ringers piss-take of Liz Truss…

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-asia-trade-deal-cptpp-b2313359.html

The government’s prediction that its Brexit trade deal with Asia-Pacific countries will grow the economy by 0.08 per cent may be an overestimate, it has emerged.

HannibalHeyes · 10/04/2023 21:28

No! Surely not...

RafaistheKingofClay · 10/04/2023 22:06

Difficult to believe. This government have been so honest about everything up until now.

RafaistheKingofClay · 10/04/2023 22:10

Brexiteer government ministers have been keen to talk up the benefits of doing trade deals outside the EU – but have been left frustrated by their own forecasts which show limited economic upsides from the new free trade agreements.

From that article. It’s almost like project fear might actually have been project reality. The learning curve for realising you can’t make your unicorns real by just believing in them may be quite steep.

Although possibly so steep they may not bother learning and just carry on believing instead.

UK’s Brexit losses more than 178 times bigger than trade deal gains

Exclusive: All trade deals combined worth less than 50p per person a year, analysis of government figures shows

Here's another one to make Louise proud.

French Schoolchildren, part of a group for a properly organised tour to the UK, were sent this edifying letter by the Home Office.

We continue to destroy what little soft power we had left...

@HannibalHeyes it's pathetic, isn't it? And you can bet this will be in the French press. There has already been a large reduction in tourism from France and Germany, which has not been replaced by tourism from elsewhere. Sinking the UK economy, one xenophobic Home Office decision at a time.

countrygirl99 · 11/04/2023 10:36

We have a french friend who teaches English in France. Her school used to have 2 parties a year come to the UK for a week. They have no plans to do so in the near future. Passport requirements and general hassle don't make it worthwhile. They are looking at options in Ireland instead as they can fly Ryanair from a local airport.

SerendipityJane · 11/04/2023 10:47

Remember to ram this down Brexiteers throats (waves at Louise) as what they wanted. They don't get to slither away with "not my Brexit".

This is exactly your Brexit. And turning away children - admittedly foreign so not worth that much - was exactly what you wanted all along.

Because if it wasn't you wouldn't have fucking voted for it, would you ?

I must admit, Rishi has impressed me of late. By which I mean whatever power is behind him has impressed me of late, since there was never any hint that he was this clever previously. But one thing he has done is shown the ERG nutters up for the lunatic fringe they always were. And with the retained law bill slowly fading into the history books of "maybe", his work is pretty much done. Too late for many. But there is a narrow path back.

DuncinToffee · 11/04/2023 10:51

“research by the Tourism Alliance last year found there had been an 83% drop in schoolchildren and students visiting the UK, leading to a loss of £875m and 14,500 jobs.”

pointythings · 11/04/2023 11:02

I'm sure Louise will have a very good and non xenophobic reason why stopping school kids from coming here is great. I mean, they might secretly stay and work up British chimneys, stealing those jobs from poor British kids. Or something.

I'll pull up a folding chair and get my Thermos of tea ready for the wait.

Music? Tsk. I'm listening to the local birdsong.

pointythings · 11/04/2023 11:31

I'm watching Why Didn't They Ask Evans? on my brand new telly which arrived this morning after the old one inconveniently died over the weekend.

SerendipityJane · 11/04/2023 12:52

Now the power of Brexiteers has been broken, and they have no way to deliver on their promises to their criminal backers, it will be an interesting few months and years for them. And us.

Remember how Boris shat his pants at the prospect of not delivering Brexit. Not because he feared the British Public, his own party, or anything judicial. But because he had hocked his rise to power with the kind of people who leave windows open. A lot.

Given we know for a fact that the Russian (and Chinese) black-ops teams work with impunity in the UK, if I were a Brexiteer that had rather over-promised and under-delivered, I might be a little concerned for my welfare too.

This is the synopsis of a Brexit thriller I am asking ChatGPT to help write. It will be a very slow process, as I keep having to tell it that the events it thinks "could never happen" are in fact recent history.

LouiseCollins28 · 11/04/2023 17:33

If you are waiting for me to be critical of turning school children away...you'll be waiting a long time. Enjoy your tea 😊and the folks who want to ram things down my throat, if you can wait 'til I've finished my tea that would be fab, thanks.

HannibalHeyes · 11/04/2023 17:39

It's OK Louise, we know you're incapable of any empathy. It's a noted trait in Brexshitteers.

I'm sure you won't have any for the Lace industry either...

According to the IMF, the UK is now set to perform worse than any other major economy this year with even sanctions-hit Russia set to do better.

Sunlit uplands, cheers Brew

pointythings · 11/04/2023 18:57

Ah well, the IMF is full of foreigners. What do they know? Anyway, even if they're right, it won't be due to Brexit. It'll be because the EU are being mean to the UK by applying the rules, and also Jeremy Corbyn, lefty lawyers and foreigners not knowing what a woman is.

Crikeyalmighty · 11/04/2023 20:49

Brexiters seem to mainly come in 3 types - those rich enough to take advantage of offshore accounts (and hence rather keen on not having to declare) and could buy their way into many countries in the world if needs be - those daft enough to believe the gvt would actually make up lost EU funding , put more money into NHS and totally bought into the 'nothing would change' - we hold all the cards mentality, and those who genuinely are totally unaware of how business and commerce works unless it's a corner shop or local accountants etc- no idea about import/export and really had bugger all idea of what they were voting on- believed it would mean far less immigration all round etc. my father in law at 83 has totally changed his view in last 2 years - as he said to me 'he was totally out of touch with trade, never realised it was all so integrated' and he admits he thought the gvt wouldn't do anything that was damaging to the economy and he can see it is. The Tory's have certainly lost his vote, he thinks they are all just lining their pockets and are self interested twerps.
