Part 10 of our long running thread.
I'm still putting my money on a spring GE.
The tory slash and burn of the UK is right on track.
Bon chance my friends!

The UK is and will continue to be a member of the ECHR says the PM

I caught Steve Baker earlier too and concluded that he’d had a brain transplant. It was unnerving.

A transplant would imply he has one put in to replace the one taken out. I’m not sure that’s the case with baker.

Chevyimpala67 · 27/02/2023 20:26

I think for some tories - even erg twats - the panic is setting in.
They never had a plan A, let alone a plan B
Wheels aren't coming off...they were never attached in the first place...

If this is all as reported (?) then it seems to have headed team Boris off at the pass, and neutered the DUP.

One can only speculate about what we don't know (obviously).

One of the key points is that UvdL goes back to Brussels needing to change not a full stop in the agreement Boris (and the UK parliament) agreed.

Maybe Sunak did threaten an election if thwarted ? A power he wouldn't have had if it wasn't for Boris.

This ‘single market’ thing Rishi is on about for NI sounds like it has loads of benefits. We should probably join that.

Grin We will.

This lunacy can't go on much longer.

HannibalHeyes · 27/02/2023 21:04

These people say it better than I can...

Don't forget that Sunak was a Brexiter. I expect Johnson will reinvent himself to take us back into the Single Market in due course.

I hope this is the beginning of the end for the ERG. It would be really nice to see the whole lot booted out at the next election. (When they will go off to make shedloads of money.)

HannibalHeyes · 27/02/2023 22:23

Aww, but you have to feel sorry for poor old "Brexit Hardman" {{https://twitter.com/BBCNewsnight/status/1630302891029217280 Steve Baker]].

Personally, my heart is bleeding...

HannibalHeyes · 27/02/2023 22:23

And now with the correct punctuation;

prettybird · 27/02/2023 22:41

Saw the guy from the TUV (I think) commenting after the press conference complaining bitterly that this agreement would ensure that the economic growth of NI and the rest of the UK would diverge because of the agreement Confused along with many, many other complaints like European Law still applying in certain circumstances Hmm

Essentially, he wants to be tied into a sinking ship Confused

borntobequiet · 27/02/2023 22:47

Definitely a brain transplant. Beard? Jewellery? Steve Baker has turned into a hippy?
Goodness.

Chevyimpala67 · 27/02/2023 22:49

Venal, self serving shithead

DuncinToffee · 27/02/2023 23:33

Baker is leaving the sinking ship, the one he helped sinking.

Sunak didn't like it when Starmer remindeded him who negotiated the original deal.

There's a streak of unionism that hates Ireland and the Irish so bitterly that dire poverty is considered a better alternative than any degree of separation from Britain.

borntobequiet · 28/02/2023 06:09

It’s really disconcerting and alarming when you realise the depth of this hatred and contempt.

I wouldn't put it past the Tories to become a pro EU party (before the next GE) and portray Labour as the party of Brexit and blame its failings on them too....

...ably supported by the right wing media...

DowningStreetParty · 28/02/2023 08:11

I’d love that Tory epiphany to happen if it meant rejoin.. but I think the Tories really like running a country that’s economically on its knees with a scared and therefore vulnerable electorate who are just worrying about getting through the day and so are not scrutinising the government’s dodgy dealings..

Alexandra2001 · 28/02/2023 08:19

I don't think they would go full on rejoin but i do think they will look to ease trade, travel - pet passports, 2nd homes, 90/180 rule, some form of FOM.. .... seek co op on science too.... a SM/CU "lite"

...that would leave Labour as the party of Brexit.

My mum used to tell me that the Tories are very cunning or sly as she used to put it!

I see that in some Leave voters/campaigners as well. They hate the EU and all it stands for so much that any amount of poverty and disunity it worth it for Brexit.

Also, Brexit voters are dying off and will continue to die off, their importance politically will fade.

DowningStreetParty · 28/02/2023 08:27

Actually Alexandra that kind of vote-winning very cherry-picked policy change (so long as we kept the duty-free ) would suit those with second homes in Europe etc so I could definitely see a Tory government going for that

I would be cynical about it but again if it reins in some of the Tory extremism and gives a more centrist flavour to the party that would be a small relief. The absolutist hardest Brexit whatever it costs Johnsonian mentality is bloody terrifying in government.

DuncinToffee · 28/02/2023 10:37

Sunak is still busy making the case for rejoin this morning

Rishi Sunak says "NI has this very special position where it has access to the UK & EU markets, which makes it an incredibly attractive place to invest for businesses"

DuncinToffee · 28/02/2023 10:47

And here he is again

twitter.com/Haggis_UK/status/1630516003267309570?t=b0WzIeiwTHR-Qm5waUjkpw&s=19

Rubbing our faces in it, reminding us of what we once had and they took away.

SerendipityJane · 28/02/2023 13:35

I believe the recent negotiations are referred to in Brussels as the "Saxe-Coburg talks".

I wonder if his distress at the effects of his brexit are comparable to that of the family of the British woman in her 70s, with dementia, on the brink of being deported from Sweden due to brexit?
