Brexit

Genuine question - what does anyone like about Brexit?

I have always been a committed remainer - I work in an industry that depends on seamless logisitics, particularly entering / leaving the UK. Brexit is a shit show for my sector.

Just had to pay £96.80 to UPS to release a package that I'd paid express delivery for, that should've arrived 2 days ago - I'm pissed off. The German firm has already agreed to reimburse me but it's all such a ball ache.

So I have a very bleak outlook when it comes to Brexit.

Genuinely, I would like to hear of good news stories around Brexit.
How has it made your life better?
If your pay has increased - how much by and which industry are you in?
If there has been a legal upside for you - which law and how has it helped?

I am genuinely hoping to 'reframe' my thoughts / feelings on Brexit and was hoping this board could help me

The main benefits and aims of Brexit were stopping the internal infighting in the Tory party and ensuring Boris Johnson became Prime Minister. Both have been successfully achieved.

That’s a benefit??

Lonelycrab · 11/11/2022 21:12

Prapse @clavinova can come splat the thread and tell us we’re all wrong 🙂

Yes, the UK is a much better place after those benefits.

It's nice that sewage can be dumped in the sea

Yes, yes it is. But mainly for the fact that we can decide to do that for ourselves, with sovereignty, that we can dump our own shit, in our own sea.

That’s the important bit.

I certainly find it much more exciting when I go swimming knowing that I might be swimming with thousands of other people's poos. Most invigorating.

Sorry you’ve lost me. The U.K. is better because Johnson screwing over the country, piling up the bodies and handing friends corrupt contracts was a good thing? Helped Putin, I suppose.

Johnson was one of the countries best Prime Ministers. I gather the pot plants in number 10 have never been better tended.

Apart from a good old fashioned stamp in the passport when travelling - nothing!

He was a laugh I guess. All those funny bits he did, you know, with Latin and stuff. Was the sort of bloke I’d love to have a pint with. Those are the things that we need really in this country. Not all this Kier starmer boring stuff. And don’t forget Corbyn, that would have ruined us!

Spot on Crabster. Johnson is someone we can all relate to, we all know someone like him.

If there was no Brexit, would the UK have been able to offer security to Sweden and Finland while they apply to join NATO?

Lonelycrab · 11/11/2022 22:24

If there was no Brexit, would the UK have been able to offer

If there was no Brexit, putin would have faced a much more united Eu in the first place.

Which is why Brexit was a goal to him.

PoseyFlump · 11/11/2022 22:31

The problem with the EU though would be getting all the countries to agree something quickly. The UK could make its own decisions on vaccines and sending supplies to Ukraine.

Sovereignty isn’t nothing.

Why do you think it doesn’t matter?

What actually is Sovereignty? And what does it give us that we didn't have before?

Are you really saying that some kind of toff Peter Kay buffoon you could have a laugh with in the pub represents the best qualities of a PM?
God help us.

PoseyFlump · 11/11/2022 22:35

There's fifty people in a room and you need to get them all to agree to what they want for dinner. Versus one person. Spag Bol it is then.

Lonelycrab · 11/11/2022 22:39

Are you really saying

No, I’m not.

Lonelycrab · 11/11/2022 22:40

Convince them what you’re serving is tastier, and serve up your dish instead Wink

PoseyFlump · 11/11/2022 22:44

Convince them

Don't think we were ever much good at that! They wouldn't even vote for our Eurovision song Grin aha! But they did vote for our song after Brexit. I think we have a winner ladies and gentlemen!

TartanGirl1 · 11/11/2022 22:51

Bendy bananas? Or was it straight bananas?

I don't know, there was some shite about bananas!

j712adrian · 11/11/2022 22:54

There is a Brexit benefit.

It was to prove that the English are - beyond doubt - the world's biggest xenophobes.

It's good for other countries to realise that that has now been proven.
