Brexit

Genuine question - what does anyone like about Brexit?

I have always been a committed remainer - I work in an industry that depends on seamless logisitics, particularly entering / leaving the UK. Brexit is a shit show for my sector.

Just had to pay £96.80 to UPS to release a package that I'd paid express delivery for, that should've arrived 2 days ago - I'm pissed off. The German firm has already agreed to reimburse me but it's all such a ball ache.

So I have a very bleak outlook when it comes to Brexit.

Genuinely, I would like to hear of good news stories around Brexit.
How has it made your life better?
If your pay has increased - how much by and which industry are you in?
If there has been a legal upside for you - which law and how has it helped?

I am genuinely hoping to 'reframe' my thoughts / feelings on Brexit and was hoping this board could help me

Nothing. Other than it made me get on and get dual nationality. Otherwise it completely threw a spanner in our life plans.

Uffizi1 · 11/11/2022 18:38

It’s been a ghastliness. I would love tho to see some positives on this board. Anyone?

verballyincompetent · 11/11/2022 18:39

Quite like getting extra passport stamps and better duty free 😂

Costacoffeeplease · 11/11/2022 18:42

You may get ‘duty free’ but in much smaller quantities than pre brexit.

Lampzade · 11/11/2022 18:44

I would like the answer to this question.too.

ShandaLear · 11/11/2022 18:44

Well, it’s all a bit of a shit show, really, isn’t it? I don’t think anyone would argue with that anymore.

MrsKeats · 11/11/2022 18:45

Literally nothing.

ShandaLear · 11/11/2022 18:45

Oh yeah, I got an Irish passport, so that was nice.

Pootles34 · 11/11/2022 18:45

Passport stamps is the only one.

avocadotofu · 11/11/2022 18:45

Absolutely nothing. I would really like to hear what's so great about it!!

This. I could have got it years ago but Brexit made me get my arse into gear! No actual benefits though.

AutumnAgain · 11/11/2022 18:49

it’s destroyed the Tory party - surely that’s good for something.

CaronPoivre · 11/11/2022 18:50

It is a devastating act of self destruction for U.K. and unforgivable.

hamstersarse · 11/11/2022 18:53

I didn’t vote for Brexit but I genuinely enjoyed the awful behaviour of the EU around the vaccine distribution. They went nuts, full on

I also enjoy the utter spiteful ness of the EU in general. The Ursula person is an absolute travesty, much worse (and unelected) than any of our leaders. It makes me glad to be outta there.

Im fine with Brexit now, I think covid has messed it up and put it back, and I actually feel happy that we aren’t involved with the shower of shits in Brussels.

I do struggle to understand why people are still so aggregated by it.

teddyclown · 11/11/2022 18:54

It's a nightmare. I have a small business selling collectible dolls and bears, mainly from Germany and it's just awful. Customs clearance and charges have had such a negative impact for me.

ISeeTheLight · 11/11/2022 18:57

I paid the best part of £2k to get British citizenship. (EU national) Wouldn't have gotten it if we'd still be in the EU.

I'm with you OP. Zero benefits. I've stopped sending presents to people as they have to pay ridiculous import taxes (my home country is incredibly strict and rigid and slap import tax onto everything). My DM has stopped sending presents to DD. We just send each other money now. Sad.

BoredWithLife · 11/11/2022 19:04

If you really want just a single benefit, we were able to abolish tampon tax - but I suspect you don't just want a single benefit and will now argue why that isn't enough to justify it etc etc...

Owlcat42 · 11/11/2022 19:05

There's nothing to like and there are no benefits. The only point of it was to destroy worker's rights and environmental standards, so the very very wealth could become even more so at the expense of everyone else. The UK is skint. Everything is up the spout. And at a time where we should be taking radical steps re climate change, instead of trading easily with our nearest neighbours instead we're agreeing to fly stuff back and forth across the world. The whole thing is ludicrous

jgw1 · 11/11/2022 19:07

I like that instead of our laws being made by foreigners they are made here in the UK by a Prime Minister who isn't sure he wants to live in the UK.
I like that we have taken back control of our borders, which means there are far more migrants trying to get here in a dangerous fashion than there were before, it takes longer to travel anywhere and the cost of importing anything is much higher.
I like that my rich mates and I have made a fortune betting on the outcome of various daft ideas the government have introduced in the past 3 years in the casino we call London.

thistimelastweek · 11/11/2022 19:11

Don't forget SOVEREIGNTY !

Lonelycrab · 11/11/2022 19:12

Well this is where we end up, when the Tories let the Trojan horse of ukip into their party, with open arms. Major was right-bastards. He was one of the last actual Conservatives, and what we’ve ended up with here is a freak show now- an abysmal party disappearing up itself while the country goes the same way.

oldbrownjug · 11/11/2022 19:14

I'm guessing OP didn't start the thread to discuss the benefits of Brexit.

hamstersarse · 11/11/2022 19:14

thistimelastweek · 11/11/2022 19:11

Don't forget SOVEREIGNTY !

Sovereignty isn’t nothing.

Why do you think it doesn’t matter?

jgw1 · 11/11/2022 19:15

One of the benefits of Brexit is that we have spent 3/4 of a million pounds in severance payments to ex Ministers in the last 4 months.
Massive boost to the UK economy.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 11/11/2022 19:16

Nope. Can’t think of a single positive.
