Brexit

Genuine question - what does anyone like about Brexit?

Pipsquiggle · 11/11/2022 18:32

I have always been a committed remainer - I work in an industry that depends on seamless logisitics, particularly entering / leaving the UK. Brexit is a shit show for my sector.

Just had to pay £96.80 to UPS to release a package that I'd paid express delivery for, that should've arrived 2 days ago - I'm pissed off. The German firm has already agreed to reimburse me but it's all such a ball ache.

So I have a very bleak outlook when it comes to Brexit.

Genuinely, I would like to hear of good news stories around Brexit.
How has it made your life better?
If your pay has increased - how much by and which industry are you in?
If there has been a legal upside for you - which law and how has it helped?

I am genuinely hoping to 'reframe' my thoughts / feelings on Brexit and was hoping this board could help me

That is certainly a Brexit benefit @GlobeTrotter2000

The best thing is that the lie that "Brexit is done" (thanks Boris, maybe the one useful thing he did) means that the dwindling band of OG Brexiteers are now in the incumbent position. And the UKs political system was built on inertia.

I didn't have to wait at passport control last time I came back to the country.

GlobeTrotter2000 · 15/01/2024 14:56

@IVFNewbie I didn't have to wait at passport control last time I came back to the country.

Me neither after my last visit to The Netherlands. Scanner's can be used for UK passport since 2022, but still need a stamp after you have gone through the scanner.

Often, there are fewer NON-EU passing through than EU. I have not noticed any significant time difference to go through passport control since the UK left the EU. Even it did a little longer, you would still have to wait for luggage on the other side.

I was refering to the exit stamp from The Netherlands.

You like exit stamps?

We haven’t got Brexit as most of our laws are still aligned with the EU.
The establishment and the ruling class don’t want Brexit and thus we are still affiliated in all but name.
I hoped we would ban live export of animals, something that was impossible while in the EU, but this vile government could t care less about the environment and animals. Labour are no better.

The laws you refer too are to do with trade, do you want to wreck UK exports into Europe?

We ve relaxed the environmental ones and live export bans are stupid, uk animals can go even longer distances in the UK & what about NI and ROI ?

Brexit doesn't work, its a mess and will take years to sort out, if ever.

Even the much vaunted Border Control has proven to be a disaster.

Yes we have got brexit. We can now use 37 different agrochemicals on our land that are banned in the EU and are much freer to dump our shit in the sea. If you thought brexit would mean higher standards not lower, then you were just plain stupid, no other word for it.

How is it importing dogs from Greece these days?

What I like about Brexit is the look of fear in Brexiteers eyes when you ask them about the benefits.

MotherofPearl · 15/01/2024 21:01

@jgw1 Grin You know how to keep Remainers' spirits up!

What colour passport do they have?

Do they come by boat?

@jgw1 What I like about Brexit is the look of fear in Brexiteers eyes when you ask them about the benefits.

Several questions:

How do you know the people you are speaking to voted Leave?

Assuming they all voted leave, how many millions of people have you spoken to?

I make certain that I talk to everyone in the country each month before I make any judgement.

@jgw1 I make certain that I talk to everyone in the country each month before I make any judgement.

UK population is Approx 68 million. To speak to all them each month, you would need to process them at a rate of Approx. 26 per second. Wow!

not all communication is verbal though.

GlobeTrotter2000 · 16/01/2024 16:51

@SerendipityJane not all communication is verbal though

The phrase "...I talk to everyone...." sounds very like verbal.

Even if communication was telepathic, it would require a process rate of 26 persons per second.

SerendipityJane · 16/01/2024 16:55

Only if your brain is broken, surely ? Telepathy being instant. True, there is the problem of all the voices in your head. But Brexiteers seem to manage.

@GlobeTrotter2000

Just leaving the latest YouGov Brexit tracker here

It's now 55% remain, 31% leave.

Booked a business trip to Ireland today - still annoys me that it's going to take bloody ages at passport control to get in
