Brexit

Genuine question - what does anyone like about Brexit?

Pipsquiggle · 11/11/2022 18:32

I have always been a committed remainer - I work in an industry that depends on seamless logisitics, particularly entering / leaving the UK. Brexit is a shit show for my sector.

Just had to pay £96.80 to UPS to release a package that I'd paid express delivery for, that should've arrived 2 days ago - I'm pissed off. The German firm has already agreed to reimburse me but it's all such a ball ache.

So I have a very bleak outlook when it comes to Brexit.

Genuinely, I would like to hear of good news stories around Brexit.
How has it made your life better?
If your pay has increased - how much by and which industry are you in?
If there has been a legal upside for you - which law and how has it helped?

I am genuinely hoping to 'reframe' my thoughts / feelings on Brexit and was hoping this board could help me

In addition, it was the only 'still' that was found because it blew up. It begs the question as to how many others were operating undiscovered...

Oh no! We were a blissful, crime free nation, before all the Poles came over here to do the jobs we won't / can't do!

Alexandra2001 · 04/12/2022 08:17

@Ladyintangerine Everything you mention is down to lack of law enforcement, not FOM or even EU membership..... illegal Vodka sold in shops? FFS don't you have trading standards in your area?

Illegal stills? no police up there???

I assume you pay council tax? so why weren't you demanding the council and police do their jobs? ah i see, its the UK government that has run down these vital public services.... nothing to do with the EU is it?

oh and i used to live just outside Hull in the 2000s.... not Boston but a lot closer than sunny Cornwall.

Minimise... thats exactly what you are doing by failing to accept the loss of EU workers in healthcare, agri food production and hospitality.... you also minimise my lived experience that English men are more than capable of smashing up town centres and drug dealing.... again, lack of UK law enforcement and deterrent.

Like all brexitiers i ve met... blame the EU for UK caused problems.... and now they can't the EU, blame people voted to remain or the French, its pathetic.

Actually I think Leave voters are continuing to blame the EU for all lives ills.

I know a couple who have been home distilling since 2007. You can get all the kit online. If people bothered to learn a tiny bit of chemistry and physics (or paid attention at school where it's free) they'd know it's no big deal.

Certainly no one was getting drunk and trashing town centres. No of course not.
Massive amounts of police resources are not spent on football matchdays rather than on community policing, no of course not.

All the police officers I am friends with greatly look forward to matchdays as they know it will be a polite and pleasant afternoon out with a friendly group of people. Of course not!

Yes, just wait until Newcastle lose at home to Sunderland....

That's pants and you know it is.

The OP asked why Leavers don't contribute to these threads - well here we have the reason.

When any Leaver voices an opinion, tells about our experiences, says what we think etc we are called liars, told we are whingers, told we are stupid. No-one wants to hear what we have to say.

So, a plague on all your houses, I'm out of here and you can find some others to berate.

@Ladyintangerine no need to get upset. I was one of the people questioning if the best you can bring as benefit of Brexit is the fact some EE were found to be brewing alcohol illegally 10 years ago in your city. If you tell me that all is glorious now, well, I find that difficult to believe and you haven’t said it is. And I know you must know you’ve been had. It’s not a nice feeling, but the one who made a fool of you is Farage & co.

On this I’m with you even though I voted remain. Leave voters get jumped on with insults.

LadyWithLapdog · 04/12/2022 16:18

Leave voters hide behind the non-existent attacks or insults rather than coming up with some actual arguments.

LadyWithLapdog · 04/12/2022 16:32

Anyway, there’s another thread about this with similar ZERO benefits found. This will go on and on. You can’t find what is non-existent.

MarshaBradyo · 04/12/2022 16:35

Writing to your MP would be better than these threads. Unfortunately I think it’s too late as Labour have made a statement already

LadyWithLapdog · 04/12/2022 16:43

My MP is a total, total waste of space. He only answers about local bin collections and doesn’t want to make other statements.

MarshaBradyo · 04/12/2022 16:48

I don’t doubt you but I think that there seems to be a disconnect between political direction and what people have linked in terms of polls

Sometimes filling up an inbox is the best way. Imo though in boxes won’t be full of Brexit related messages

I can only think this is why Labour seem to be not noticing or wanting the votes in their direction

LadyWithLapdog · 04/12/2022 16:53

@MarshaBradyo i should have said my MP is a Tory. When he had a more high profile role he made an absolute mess of it. Flagrantly so. In several roles. I still email. He still replies. My husband and friends often get the same pat responses. I don’t think the UK will rejoin any time soon. (My kids have an EU country passport but that’s not the point. This is my country and we’re still here for now. I wish it well!)

What an excellent idea, Boris can be president for life and Govey, Govey, Govey Prime Minister.

when humanity reaches the galaxies and beyond, which is better , a one world government, or the current system of all the different governments, then imagine that e.g. Britain has made agreements with x civilisation to acquire tech ect

LadyWithLapdog · 04/12/2022 16:18

oh and they also run off shouting "you don't listen to us, its not fair"

No one insulted @Ladyintangerine but if the benefit of brexit in your area there are no stills and the war memorial is no longer vandalised... well thats a shit trade off for 10s of 1000s of the elderly stuck in hospitals because there aren't enough care workers, GDP 4% lower than it would have been & hospitality going down the pan because they haven't staff.

Not down to wages either... there are not enough people of working age here and the 100s of '000s of migrants aren't allowed to work.

... the problems she listed were down to UK police not enforcing the law.. not EU.

I want to see benefits that off set the very real losses, not relative trivia.

What you haven't heard all the 'they're punishing us' whingeing when the EU treat us like a country that's not in the EU? So, treating us actually how we wanted and voted to be treated.

It's interesting that some people are going, "I got a pay rise because of it, screw everyone else who's lost out."

Ie the Brexiteers.

I made millions betting on the pound falling as a result of Brexit, if only everyone was as clever as me they too would be as smug as me.

That's not what they said though is it? They simply answered the question. But don't let the truth get in the way of a goady opportunity.

SinnerBoy · 05/12/2022 07:52

I'm just pointing out a fact that people are happy because they got a pay rise, whilst selfishly saying that they don't care about the thousands of businesses, which are no longer able to trade with the EU.

A pay cut for many, in other words. As they can afford to pay more for food, which has increased in price, they don't care about those who don't.

I'm sorry if selfish people don't care about their fellow citizens, who are suffering, as a direct result of Brexit.

Usually it’s can someone tell me a benefit, anything etc

Then a poster says I / my sector has has rise in payment

Then posts like yours come next

PoseyFlump · 05/12/2022 07:55

OP: has anyone benefited?
"Well my husbands wages have doubled"
Oh what a selfish bragging bastard you are.

Pointless thread then eh?
