Part 10 of our long running thread.

Not sure what to say, really, other than it is worse than I feared.

Strap in, folks. It's gonna be a rough ride...

YouGov Word cloud from Leave voters

That is a genius work of staggering heartbreak. Or something.

Does the corresponding word cloud for Remain voters consist of "Well, durr." and "We fucking told you so!"?

SerendipityJane · 13/01/2023 08:52

Surprised they found more than two leave voters to be honest. They're a vanishing species.

pointythings · 13/01/2023 09:33

My violin is so small I can't fucking find it.

I did have the job interview Tuesday, should hear by close of play today with any luck. It went well, if I don't get it that won't be because I cocked it up.

DuncinToffee · 13/01/2023 09:47

What else can remainers be blamed for

Apparently, "remainer elites" are to blame for - WAIT FOR IT - far right extremists invading the Capitols in Washington and, more recently, in Brazil.

Desire to leave the EU in EU countries has dramatically reduced since witnessing the epic self own that is Brexit

The silver lining to brexshit.

HannibalHeyes · 18/01/2023 08:03

From twitter;

Just for context, the £3 million in tax Zahawi tried to dodge would cover:

A year of free school meals for 6400 children
The annual salary of 111 new nurses
A full year of state pension for 407 people

And we wonder why they claim to have no money to pay nurses...

SerendipityJane · 18/01/2023 08:46

Not posting much on here. Too much trouble (if I had a tinfoil hat I would note that for me this is the only thread that struggles ...)

Noticed the Telegraph is giving up on Brexit.
www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/01/16/britain-going-rejoin-eu-farsooner-anyone-now-imagines/

That'll confuse Express readers.

Of course now the Tories are the party of Brexit, they can sink with it.

That telegraph article really cheered me up. "You didn't believeeeee enough!" and it predicts the demise of the Tory party.

Brexit was never going to work. There was never a clear, positive manifesto and the Hard Brexit chosen by Johnson ignored every fact of geography and basic economics.

Having said that, I don't think Labour will push to rejoin and I doubt the EU will want us back. It's going to be a long-term project.

DuncinToffee · 18/01/2023 09:43

And then there is David Davis slamming JRM's Brexit bill:

“When we talked about taking back control, it wasn’t removing control from Brussels to give it to Whitehall, it was taking back control to give it to Westminster and our sovereign Parliament.”

The reasons Thatcher gave to join the Single Market are as true now as they were back in 1988.

Whilst Labours attempts at appeasing leave voters might seem sound in electoral terms, its also extremely damaging to UK plc.... quite incredible.

... yes we are out of the EU and the SM for many years to come, maybe decades, the British Volt saga shows exactly why we need frictionless trade with EU, as does lack of EU healthcare staff coming here.

Chersfrozenface · 18/01/2023 11:27

In the interests of even-handedness, I was surprised at the extent to which Europe, both the UK and the EU, rely on Asian firms for electric vehicle battery manufacture.

The UK has the Nissan-CATL plant.

And apparently 44% of planned capacity in Europe by 2031 will be from Asian companies, in second place European companies, mainly Sweden's Northbolt, and Tesla's (US) plant in Germany will be in third place. That's planned capacity, of course.

HannibalHeyes · 18/01/2023 11:51

I see the Torygraph are trying to cover their own liability in campaigning for it by saying "the Tories have made such a hash of Brexit that the project is probably now unsalvageable", as if there were ever any circumstances under which Brexshit would have been a success (apart from tax evaders, obviously, for them it's been absolutely perfect)...

SerendipityJane · 18/01/2023 12:47

The quickest way to reverse Brexit is to superglue it to the Tory party. It will either destroy them, or they will be force to destroy it.
(incidentally, a similar choice faces US republicans: destroy MAGA or it will destroy them)

Being forced to use MS windows has the unfotuinate side effect of forcing their "news" widget (bottom right, is about the only thing in the universe that uses Edge). Which means I get to see the increasingly hysterical tone the Express has to take abotu Brexit in the face of reality. Bless. I know The Beano never did current affairs, but if they did, it would probably look remarkable like The Express.

Just typing "tory Brexit" into Google a few days a week from diffent locations is costing the Tories a fortune in cleaning up.

Exactly... i just wonder whether the Tories will ambush Labour with a quick u-turn, & re spin the benefits of the SM & indeed FOM before the next GE.

Their media will then blame Labour for Brexit.... and the resultant economic damage...

Sounds extreme but they blame Labour for lack of nuclear power and for the NHS failings on PFI/Labour supporting strikes.. and the global financial crash on them too, ,
So ministers will say Labour left the economy is mess after the "Financial crash" referencing that note.. and the interviewer doesn't pull them up on it....

Just seen the falls in inflation across Europe, esp Germany, significant ones too.

Ours will remain higher of course.... gotta to that last drop of profit out of us all.

Cost of Brexit to our economy currently coming in at £33 billion.

Truly the gift that keeps giving.

I know I saw somewhere that American inflation has also decreased, or possibly plateaued.

There must be something else at play besides global factors in the British inflation problem...

From another thread:

Cost of Brexit to our economy currently coming in at £33 billion.

Truly the gift that keeps giving.

The government's own figures put it at £100 Billion, and a £40 Billion loss of tax take.

And as it's from the government, I suspect the reality is far worse...

HannibalHeyes · 18/01/2023 21:25
