It will make sweet FA difference if BJ loses both seats. Hmm

People are still assuming that BJ works to normal standards of ethics and morality. Confused

He'll have to be prised out of Downing Street kicking and screaming.

Because of his arrogance and lack of self awareness, the UK's best chance of getting rid of him would be if, in his hubris, he calls a snap election, assuming that his "boyish charm" and "winning ways" will get him another majority and instead he gets bitten on the bum Hmm

Yes.

The PM will call an election if he thinks he has nothing else to lose. In that respect, it's worth watching the rebels in the party. They don't have a plan - yet - but I can't see this fading away. They've got two years left to save their jobs.

Yes.

I think this will happen. I've been predicting it for a while.
This winter or early next year.

The time to have called an election was the second he won the VoNC in his own party. Really the headlines should have read: Election in 4 weeks time; Johnson winns Tory vote.

In that order.

amp.theguardian.com/politics/2022/jun/12/is-brexit-working-four-key-tests

We will be debating the success or otherwise of Brexit for decades. However, that does not mean we cannot draw tentative conclusions about the results to date. On its own terms, Brexit has clearly not delivered either better overall performance or greater fairness: for most indicators, the opposite is the case. But while the UK has become a less open economy to trade, this is not the case for migration, where the optimistic case has largely prevailed. And while levels of public distrust and dissatisfaction with government overall remain high, Brexit itself may have improved matters somewhat, especially on immigration.

TL:DR : The racists and xenophobes prevailed SadAngry

More bad news for farmers and the climate.

"Last year, ministers announced a post-Brexit scheme to pay farmers up to £800 million a year to transform agricultural land into nature-rich forests, coastal wetlands, peatlands and wildflower meadows. That fund has now been slashed to just £50 million over three years."

Expect more of this...

Brexshitters are - literally - shitting themselves at what they have done.

They will be flailing around blaming anyone but themselves.

Predictions for civil unrest?

I'd say pretty certain at some point this autumn/winter.

DuncinToffee · 13/06/2022 08:31

You are right

Eustice
I don't accept brexit is a factor in this.. problems are labour shortages

I don't accept, I don't recognise blah blah

DuncinToffee · 13/06/2022 08:42

Also Eustice

Niall Paterson - How can you break an international agreement, protocol, & for it not to be a breach of international law

George Eustice - We have to make the protocol work, because at the moment it's a serious threat to the Good Friday Agreement...

Oven-ready

HannibalHeyes · 13/06/2022 09:02

Well, in honour of this "Remainer's Brexshit", because, you know, this was exactly what we all wanted, eh?, how about some Oven Ready Classics from Larry & Paul...

pointythings · 13/06/2022 09:04

We really need to stop daying David Davis is as thick as mince. It's unfair to mince.

DuncinToffee · 13/06/2022 09:11

Remind us who negotiated it and signed it? He might have been able to justify this remark if the had accepted May's deal.

Johnson on LBC

PM on @LBC on NI Protocol

  • Says bill “the right way forward” this a “bureaucratic change that needs to be made. Frankly it’s a relatively simple change in grand scheme of things”
  • “disagrees” it going to break international law & “higher & prior obligation is to uphold GFA 1/
PM asked on @LBC if UK decision to unilaterally overwrite parts of the 2020 Brexit deal struck with EU could lead to trade wars.

Says that “would be a gross, gross overreaction” and says “how perverse, how preposterous” it would it be for EU to launch a trade war in response 2/

DuncinToffee · 13/06/2022 09:42

Irish readout of Coveney’s call with Truss this morning:

“Minister Coveney said it marks a particular low point in the UK’s approach to Brexit, especially as Secretary Truss has not engaged with negotiations with the EU in any meaningful way since February”

Sounds a frosty one

🦄Boris Johnson's spokesman says it is "too early to pass judgement" on whether Brexit has hurt the economy, but then says the Prime Minister is "confident it will be a boon to the economy in the long term."

HappyWinter · 13/06/2022 14:00

I don't think they really understood what they were doing, it was ideological and in Johnson's case, it was a way to power by jumping on the bandwagon created by the ERG.

The economic news is worrying, the rising cost of living is affecting everyone.

HarrietPierce · 13/06/2022 17:43

Appeal court judges have refused to stop the first flight carrying asylum seekers to Rwanda tomorrow. Horrifying.

HannibalHeyes · 13/06/2022 17:51

At least it looks like there are going to be hardly any poor refugees on it.

And I'm quite sure they will all have to be brought back at huge cost to the taxpayer (assuming they survive, that it).

HannibalHeyes · 13/06/2022 17:57

From twitter;

Today Liz Truss will confirm that Johnson did not get Brexit done, the deal was not oven ready and the Tories never took back control.
