Long time lurker but popping up to share the email just received from my MP. I had waited until reading the full Sue Gray report before letting him know my views and this is what I got ...
Although like many I was very disappointed to hear and read about the unacceptable conduct and culture at the heart of government, I voted with the Prime Minister yesterday evening. I don’t feel that his personal breaches of the rules are sufficiently serious to warrant the resignation of the leader of this nation, not least one who led us to decisive victories for the leadership, in the general election and Hartlepool (12 months ago) and delivered on Brexit.
A 3-month leadership campaign with no clear successor, the inevitable subsequent reshuffle and the consequent delays in legislation whilst new ministers get to grips with their brief at a time of a cost-of-living crisis, a possible recession and war in Ukraine is highly undesirable.
I think it is important to note that the wider issues in No.10, including failures by political and civil service leaders to manage the workplace culture, are now being addressed by Cabinet Minister and new No.10 Chief of Staff, Steve Barclay, who I hold in high regard. The party has now had the opportunity to express its views, which has shown that the Prime Minister still holds the confidence of fellow Conservative MPs. I believe it is now right that we focus on the pressing issues that are facing the country, in order to deliver for the British people, in particular the constituents of Thirsk and Malton.
I realise that many people will not be happy with my decision, but I don’t think there is anything to be gained from engaging in a leadership dispute or ongoing correspondence on this matter. It is important that we now focus on urgent casework and various other matters affecting the constituency. As ever, I am committed to supporting constituents with casework or personal matters that they require assistance with.
Kind regards,
Kevin
Quite staggered to be told not to complain about the PM again. A line has been drawn ...
