Unfortunately, I think they won't do that. They'll probably never vote again, let alone bother with politics.
They've simply written off politicians as liars and charlatans and they see no point in writing to them: they feel that whatever they do, the politicians will do as they please with no care for them and their families. This was psy-ops and manipulation on a massive and very well funded scale.

I wish I could tell them they're wrong.
Will you tell them they're wrong and truly believe it?

mathanxiety · 23/04/2022 23:42

@Alexandra2001 since when has being an idiot been a hindrance to Tory leadership ambitions?

I think the only thing in Truss' way to Number Ten is taking any step which would cause Johnson to believe she is trying to upscuttle him. If she is patient and loyal she can expect to fly under the radar. Or at least provide no handy excuse to give her the old heave ho.

@Tanith
Tbh I have very little sympathy for the (very few) who do regret voting Leave, they have done enormous damage to the country and should be blamed. Brexit could have been stopped if enough had changed their minds and been vocal about it. So unless they are now speaking out loudly, writing to MPs , never voting for any brexiteers etc they get no forgiveness from me.

💯

Brexit benefit! GrinWink

To all the Remoaners: we now have fast-tracked entry to Portugal. Brexit benefit - check! All right, yes, we had fast-tracked entry to every EU country pre-Brexit, I get that. But can’t you just ever accept these amazing Brexit benefits without questioning every little detail?

It will annoy the right wingers in this country no end, but Macron looks to have won a comfortable victory in the French elections.

HannibalHeyes · 24/04/2022 19:49

Phew! It looks like Macron has won fairly convincingly.

It still doesn't explain why 40-something % willingly voted for a Putin-backed fascist party...

ChiswickFlo · 24/04/2022 19:50

Yeah
41% for le Penn is pretty disturbing

Peregrina · 24/04/2022 19:58

No, according to Brexit arithmetic, 58:41% is most definitely overwhelming.

FrankieStein403 · 24/04/2022 20:00

>41% for le Penn is pretty disturbing

43.6% for the Tories n 2019 was more disturbing IMHO

I think they're expecting a pretty high abstention rate in France, with a lot of people staying home because they could not lend their vote to either side. Which is better than everyone flocking to the hard right, but still not great.

NATO aside, most tories would support the RN, there aren't huge differences in the two parties, even Le Pen doesn't want to leave the EU, the Tories went and did it.

ChiswickFlo · 25/04/2022 10:36

I can't help but chuckle at the CHQ absolutely shitting themselves that they'll end up with Truss as PM if De Pfeffle goes 🤣

I say if. The man has no honour and will have to be pushed.

pointythings the abstention rate was 28%. Not great but 5% better than the UK 2019 election at 33%.
The start of the school holidays in some areas including Paris, didn't help.

HannibalHeyes · 25/04/2022 12:22

I case you thought it couldn't get any worse than last week's "week in Tory", here comes this weeks...

HannibalHeyes · 25/04/2022 21:41

Looks like there could be a campaign to prosecute Theresa May for not declaring the referendum invalid after MI6 had told her that Russian interference and money had rendered it "not free and fair"...

T.May, despite her tears and stating how much serving the country meant to her, was only ever interested in the Tory party and keeping it together.

Everything she did from 2016 to 2019 was always party before country.

Kendodd · 26/04/2022 08:53

At least May cared about something other than herself though, even if that was only the Tory party. Johnson cares about nothing except himself.
