@ICouldHaveCheckedFirst - I did notice that (which is why I referred to their scathing report saying that the trade deals announced in no way replaced the value of leaving the EU but I was just ShockConfusedHmm at the government's attempted justification that there could be unknown benefits in the future Angry

It reminds me of Donald Rumsfeld's quote (for which he was excoriated) that "There are known unknowns ...... then there are unknown unknowns"

To be fair on Rumsfeld Wink, I sort of get where he was coming from.

But as Peregrina points out, the government "justification" is just pathetic stupid Angry

DGRossetti · 18/03/2022 10:42

Anyone who has had the pleasure of doing an ITIL course will be familiar with the idea of known and unknown unknowns. As will any decent scientist.

The problem is that most people - myself included (but it's concentrated in Brexiteers) - don't realise they know fuck all. Dunning Kruger again.

Peregrina · 18/03/2022 10:43

then there are unknown unknowns

I have mentioned on these threads before Frankopan's The Silk Roads, and how it struck me reading it, that countries went and took their eye off the ball, and something apparently completely out of the blue came and finished them off.

Except, if our Government is anything to go by, it was probably more like complacency. Taking current events - pandemics were predicted, we could have been much better prepared generally, with PPE and effective tracing and quarantining systems. As for Russia and Ukraine - we could see what was happening in Crimea, but our Government was too fond of Russian oligarchs money.... Then Brexit - where any old deal is a good deal as long as it's nothing to do with the EU.

Hannibal it’s as if they think there’s no such thing as a record of what they’ve said in the past…

DGRossetti · 18/03/2022 13:54

The thing is, even if the dimmest man in the UK (and bearing in mind teh competition, we have to respect it) does succeed in getting SCOTUK to declare Boris deal worse than staying in the E|U (spoiler alert: they won't) what's he gonna do about it ?????

Peregrina · 18/03/2022 14:08

I would genuinely like to know what LouiseCollins thinks of Ben Habib's actions. Should he just shut up, after all he's got Brexit, and as we can see, he was happy with it a few months ago?

prettybird · 18/03/2022 14:20

I'm no longer interested in reading what LouiseCollins thinks after she proudly stated that she would object to anything that emanated from the EU on principle and demonstrated that she was worse than a toddler in her desire to cut off her nose to spite her face and her complete refusal (was going to say "inability" but that would've been incorrect) to learn and adjust her reactions in the face of experience and new facts reality.

At least a toddler learns.

Peregrina · 18/03/2022 14:34

I do wonder what Habib expects from the Supreme Court. I would expect the answer to be that Parliament voted for Johnson's deal and therefore it's perfectly valid.

DrBlackbird · 18/03/2022 15:15

More to the point, why does Ben Habib care? That’s a genuine question. Does the man live in NI? I’m assuming so…

DGRossetti · 18/03/2022 15:15

@Peregrina

I do wonder what Habib expects from the Supreme Court. I would expect the answer to be that Parliament voted for Johnson's deal and therefore it's perfectly valid.
Well it's already long established that parliament - being supreme - can piss over any and all treaties it likes whenever it likes.

Honestly there are no words for the amount of stupid there has to be in trying to hold the UK to an 1801 treaty.

LouiseCollins28 · 18/03/2022 15:57

Great, so now I'm "thick", part of "a cult", "worse than a toddler" Grin not to mention xenophobe with half a brain.

Seems like I was pretty much on the money after all doesn't it...Grin

"If what you'd really like is for me to recant and say that I was wrong in voting to leave then I'm afraid not going to because I don't think I was wrong then or am now."

Peregrina · 18/03/2022 16:11

But since you are back, I would like to know what you think of Habib?

LouiseCollins28 · 18/03/2022 16:13

@HannibalHeyes

I guess that's it.

It's just being someone with half a brain, I'd like to see some sort of valid argument to back that opinion up.

I guess we're back to calling Brexshitteers thick, because they are incapable of showing themselves to be otherwise...

I'm tempted to ask how I might demonstrate none thickness in a way that would satisfy you?
ChiswickFlo · 18/03/2022 16:15

🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿
It's getting very squirrelly

LouiseCollins28 · 18/03/2022 16:21

@Peregrina

But since you are back, I would like to know what you think of Habib?
Hadn't heard of him till I read his name on here. Little to say really. Knowing little I can only presume he was a "no deal" Brexit advocate. I think the NI protocol is wide open to criticism for sure but I'm not sure ditching it now would be a positive move at all.

If he thinks going to the supreme court is going to get him anywhere then that doesn't say much for him IMP. What is does demonstrate however is that the said supreme court is the highest legal arbiter now. A demonstrable, concrete benefit of Brexit (Brexit Benefit Klaxon)

That he's recognised the UK supreme court as

LouiseCollins28 · 18/03/2022 16:25

Chiswick are you posting the squirrel thing every time I post? I mean the attention is nice and all but it seems like a fair bit of effort.

If you'd rather just have a rejoiners only thread just say and I'll disappear.

DuncinToffee · 18/03/2022 16:28

There was a squirrel and cat face off on our fence this morning

And diesel price 181.9p at Sainsburys

ChiswickFlo · 18/03/2022 16:32

My squirrel is back too...he's a greedy bugger

ChiswickFlo · 18/03/2022 16:33

Dh got his EV today.
I'm not keen.

DGRossetti · 18/03/2022 17:08

@ChiswickFlo

Dh got his EV today. I'm not keen.
If the price of nickel keeps rising, then it'll just be a more attractive scrote magnet. Like a car with a full tank of fuel.
HannibalHeyes · 18/03/2022 17:43

I'm tempted to ask how I might demonstrate none (sic) thickness in a way that would satisfy you?

I'm not sure you're capable, to be honest. I'm starting to think you'll be advocating for a 24 letter alphabet soon, without the letters "E" or "U".

But then, going by what we know of the leading Brexshitteers, I suspect the cyrillic alphabet is more what they're looking for...

A demonstrable, concrete benefit of Brexit (Brexit Benefit Klaxon)

That the UK Supreme Court is now the sole arbiter on UK law is neither correct or a benefit. At best it is a 'feature' of Brexit that EU court of Justice has no say (except when it does). A benefit has to derive something positive. The UK Supreme Court as top dog is not a de facto benefit, just a feature. @LouiseCollins28 keep looking, I'm sure you'll find one somewhere Wink
