@Chersfrozenface

Or an ear (see previous conflicts).
Jenkins ?

France taking back control of their borders

UK boat detained by France amid fishing rights row

how long before someone loses an eye ?

I am outraged that the French will not let English fisherman, fish in French waters. Do they not know that the fish probably swam there from England to get away from the sewage?

I know. Bloody Neil Kinnock !

Peregrina · 28/10/2021 10:03

Are British fish still Happy Fish, I wonder? Has Rees-Mogg asked them recently?

Reading the BBC report I note the hypocrisy from Downing Street the: "disappointing and disproportionate" threat of sanctions was "not what we would expect from a close ally and partner".

You have spent five and a half years being belligerent and saying that you prefer other partners literally half way across the world, and seem to think that International laws can be ripped up once you read them and find that you signed something you didn't like. Then you wonder why your one time allies have decided that they have had enough.

Chersfrozenface · 28/10/2021 10:03

@DGRossetti indeed Jenkins.

DGRossetti · 28/10/2021 10:10

And there goes Perrier

www.gov.uk/government/publications/notice-of-withdrawal-of-recognition-for-natural-mineral-water

No one noticed ?

Peregrina · 28/10/2021 10:18

DGR the absence of Perrier, Volvic etc. has been noticed on various Facebook threads I read. It's a bit simpler, I believe - those foreign mineral waters can be sold here, if approved by a UK regulatory body. For me this begs two questions: does the UK have such a regulatory body? If so, do the foreign firms do enough business to make it worth their while to register? Still I expect the answer will be that we will approve bottled water from Australia and New Zealand to compensate.

DoubleTweenQueen · 28/10/2021 10:22

It's all very sad and pointless still :(

Peregrina · 28/10/2021 10:26

I wonder when the MPs will notice that they can no longer get Perrier water? Will the idea be quietly dropped then? I suspect so.

DGRossetti · 28/10/2021 10:35

I think the fact you and I don't know outright is answer enough.

More Brexit good news. It is an absolute nonsense to be importing water, when we have so much high quality water of our own. Think of the good the lack of imported water will do for the environment.
dontcallmelen · 28/10/2021 10:48

.

DoubleTweenQueen · 28/10/2021 12:54

Hmm - don't think the lack of EU mineral water will halt sales of bottled water, or other bottled drinks based on the wet stuff.

DoubleTweenQueen · 28/10/2021 13:07

I don't remember Brexit being sold on promising to improve environmental law or conditions either.

We're looking at greater imports - wine, for example - from half way round the world?

DoubleTweenQueen · 28/10/2021 13:08

I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing mineral waters from NZ on the shelves.......

DuncinToffee · 28/10/2021 14:18

@DrBlackbird

jgw1 is being somewhat tongue in cheek…. So yes some satire has crept into the thread. Along the lines of if we don’t laugh, we cry…
Sunak does make it easy

Chancellor Rishi Sunak praises the "world-famous Burnley market" during a visit to Bury, 20 miles away

wewereliars · 28/10/2021 14:42

DoubleTweenqueen Brexit was sold on the basis of there being ""only upsides", "easiest deal in history" on the back of an advisory referendum interefered with by Russians, who want to destabilise the EU.

And the OBR has now forecast that its effect on the UK , a 4% hit on the economy, is twice as bad as a once in a lifetime pandemic

So you are not landing any punches there.

DuncinToffee · 28/10/2021 14:49

Hmm what about Gove's 'Green Brexit'?

FatCatThinCat · 28/10/2021 14:55

This is what taking back control looks like:

Trampling on local rivalry there, I guess he didn't try the pudden.

I was responding to the previous post suggesting that not being able to import evian etc was an environmental upside. Likely a tongue in cheek straw clutching by @jgw1 Throwing punches for Brexit? Me? Think you're barking up the wrong tree.
wewereliars · 28/10/2021 16:21

Fair play Doubletweenqueen, so hard to tell these days

DoubleTweenQueen · 28/10/2021 16:44

@wewereliars No worries. My quote button was out of action at the time, so I can see how my comments could be misconstrued :D

DuncinToffee · 28/10/2021 16:49

It is tricky isn't it. I had to double check that the aibu thread about blaming Blair for the lack of skilled workforce wasn't started by jgw1 Grin

Indeed and some of those upsides are the 3p off a pint of draught beer in 2023 and reduction of the tonnage tax on British registered vessels. And those are just the examples from the latest budget. What an impact on most people's lives they won't have.

Brexit the gift that keeps on giving.
