Because there doesn't seem to be a new thread yet. I'm no RTB or any of you other experts, but these threads need to keep going.

Give me a couple weeks and I'll be able to post cat placemarks!

@quiteathome

Lidl seem to be spreading random stock they can't sell along some of their shelves. I can't tell if this is normal now. Or due to the time of day I am going at the moment. Sanpro was also very low in stock.
I shop at Lidl often. I agree there are often huge gaps in specific areas and very much the "same thing" duplicated around the shop. Also they used to sell regularly seem to have disappeared.

There was about a month that I couldn't buy wedges of Parmesan - I checked very week. Ended up having to buy Gran Padano. Hmm

Is anyone else depressed about the Police Crime etc Bill going through the Commons with a massive majority? It appears to be designed just to quash all dissent?!
And loads of Hong-Kongers are making their plans to come over here, not realising what kind of country they're moving to. Most UK citizens don't seem to have noticed.

invisiblesuit · 06/07/2021 20:01

"damage to memorials could lead to up to 10 years in prison."
So that's proportional Hmm

....and he [Martin Wolf, author of the FT article] doesn't even touch on the risk to the supposedly precious Union, which, when should it break up, will further diminish what is left of the formerly United Kingdom and its Depedencies (FUKD for short Wink) Hmm

Massively depressed about this. I wrote to my MP about it weeks ago and he sent a faux moral indignation reply that he wouldn't dream of not supporting a bill that was going to provide such enhanced security for women. The authoritarian screws are being tightened.

Meanwhile, Leo Varadkar, M.D. and Tanaiste (deputy Prime Minister) of Ireland has criticised the Johnson government's plans to reopen on 19 July.

“The UK decision was a gamble, quite frankly, a gamble that we were not willing to take," he said.

“I think we made the right decision in Ireland last week to pause the reopening of hospitality.

“What was announced in Britain yesterday was, in my opinion, too risky.

Staff scrambling to fill shelves at an unusual time in Aldi the other day- all hands on deck. Assistant told me they’d had a big delivery at an unusual time and had to call staff in at short notice. It must be a logistical nightmare for managers and so disruptive to employees’ routines.

Our old mate Phil "I like to talk about politics" noted that the bonkers court case Hoey and her gang tried to press in Belfast - that the NIP weakened the Act of Union - completely backfired in that the judge totally agreed with them that it did.

However they also said that Parliament is supreme and can do what the fuck it likes, so if the 2019 NIP happened to contradict the 1801 Act then that's what it does.

Probably lesser reported because it happened in Belfast.

Skybluepinkgiraffe · 07/07/2021 11:05

That's interesting worrying @borntobequiet

HappyWinter · 07/07/2021 13:15

I've noticed random gaps in Aldi recently, with everyday things like bin bags and bleach.

dontcallmelen · 07/07/2021 16:04

Lots of gaps of very random things in most supermarkets here as well.

Sad and regrettable.

www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jul/07/global-experts-urge-boris-johnson-delay-covid-reopening

Boris risking the health of the current generation and potentially providing fertile ground for the development of vaccine resistant variants.

A disaster is unfolding here.
Whitehall sources have said further delay or U-turn is not on the cards, but expect to come under increasing pressure in the coming days to change course. “I think we’d only be looking at further delay if there was an emergence of a particularly nasty new variant,” one said. Another source said it was unlikely” that the plan could be knocked off course, whatever the numbers.

With the number of cases estimated to be doubling every nine days, infections are set to surpass the winter peak of 68,000 a day within a fortnight and may reach six figures before the end of the month.

The reopening is nothing short of criminal.

jasjas1973 · 08/07/2021 07:43

R4 & Sky news saying the doubling is now every 6 days, that current infection rates are impacting on hospitals AE and attempts to deal with the almost 6m back log in treatments.

I can't wait for things to return to near normal, esp travel but i don't see the sense in allowing mass infections into a partially vaccinated pop.....

But its on Bojo now, Labour have come out strongly against this relaxation, so he "shouldn't" be able to throw it back in Labours face should things go badly..... though given what elsse he has gotten away with, maybe he will?

LouiseCollins28 · 08/07/2021 08:38

Think this one could come back to bite Boris on the behind. Easing things off as much as they plan to is so clearly at odds with the unfolding virus situation nationally and internationally. Biggest concern for me are the end of social distancing, mask rules and the dangers inherent in mass international travel when so many worldwide are not vaccinated.

Peregrina · 08/07/2021 09:01

I can't disagree with any of the last two posts. They talk about most adults being fully vaccinated but that's only going to be true of the older ones in the population. They have still some way to go with the working age population. Hasn't one scientist already come out and said that a half vaccinated population is a fertile breeding ground for a new variant?

I can't see why we couldn't keep up social distancing and mask wearing - if they work they are simple measures which are not too onerous for most.

quiteathome · 08/07/2021 09:39

I think there are a lot of scientists coming out saying easing restrictions is wrong. There was something on the Covid boards the other day. I will find the link.

There was also a story today saying the government were going to ease the restrictions on long distance lorry drivers. Which is worrying.

I thought the Brexiters said that outside the EU we would be able to raise standards, not lower them. Rules like restrictions on lorry drivers were made for a purpose - who wants to see an overtired lorry driver have a crash on the motorway?

TheElementsSong · 08/07/2021 11:55

It'll be Remainers' fault for having warned about it in the first place which made it happen - if only we'd either (a) BeLeaved that human's can't get overtired or (b) just not said anything then everything would have been fiiiiiiiiiinnneeee.

pointythings · 08/07/2021 14:25

On the other hand it's heartening to see Grant Shapps reaching the lofty heights of failure achieved by Chris Failing Grayling.

In terms of masks and social distancing - one look at the Coronavirus boards will tell you that people are going to be jumping to stop all that as soon as they can. Which makes me glad I'm WFH.

Kids are booked in for their vaccines now.
