SLOW CLAP FOR BREXITEERS (again).

I posted a while back about a ridiculous customs charge I had to pay due to the wonder that is Brexit.

So now, it’s a special birthday of a relative who has had a hard time recently. I ordered her a certain type of Murano glass vase (she collects these) and, hardly surprisingly, it comes from Italy where it is made. No problem as it’s free and fast delivery with this company.

Anyway, the vase didn’t arrive. Checked on UPS and hey presto - a customs charge of £170 for a vase that cost £450. This is “due to the inconvenience that is Brexit” that’s how it translates on the Italian tracking page).

So, it seems we can no longer order anything from Europe for to the genius of those who voted Brexit! Has anything more idiotic ever taken place in British history? Maybe reality will finally hit them at the same time as the customs charges hit?

Are you the poster with the £3000 artwork?

If it's you OP, this whole thing is making you very bitter.

Please drop it, accept the result of a democratic process and buy British

AndromedaGal · 29/03/2021 19:41

Have you had your vaccine yet? Bet you have. The rest of Europe hasn’t. Don’t worry about the vase. But a vase from a charity shop in the UK. You can get some good ones

“I'm sure you could but I'd bet my pension it won't be British made”

I know. I’m not a moron. I understand that murano glass is made in Italy. There are also wholesalers here in the U.K. of such glass that supply to British retailers. They ship in containers rather than sending one piece at a time directly as in this case.

chocolateorangeinhaler · 29/03/2021 19:42

Well how stupid are you to get your fingers burnt once, do it again then moan that it happened.

You do realise the definition of insanity is doing the same things and expecting a different result.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 29/03/2021 19:42

I hear you OP - I had similar issues trying to order Easter eggs for the kids this year. Faberge London didn't stock the type I needed so I had to buy pre-enjoyed from an online boutique in Italy. Now I have to pay £4999 in customs fees thanks to bloody Brexiteers.

😂😂

Itsalonghaul · 29/03/2021 19:42

You just love throwing your money away! Slow clap for op that she is so rich and fabulously wealthy that she can continue to make the same mistake over and over again..

Who only orders from Britain when you can pay through the nose for broken vases and damaged art work from all four corners without a care for the environment, your own carbon footprint and the blessed high street on its last legs suffering from a fatal cardiac arrest... your posts are highly entertaining though, I give you that!

NoSquirrels · 29/03/2021 19:42

It’s not about the amount to all those scoffing

But it is, though. Literally. If you ordered something under £135 you wouldn't be paying it.

Good from Europe are now significantly more expensive to British consumers.

It's shit, but it's not unexpected, is it?

Beautiful3 · 29/03/2021 19:44

Slow clap for the person who failed to learn from her mistakes. You ordered £3,000 worth of artwork and complained about the customs tax. You chose to do it again, yet complain about it, again!

Itsalonghaul · 29/03/2021 19:45

My heart is breaking for op and her problems with artwork. 125,000 people dead and counting, and op's only complaint in life is about her vase!!!

It HAS to be a windup surely!!!! Grin

DesdemonaDryEyes · 29/03/2021 19:45

Posts I’ve seen bemoaning Brexit have largely been from second home owners who are concerned about how much time they can spend in their holiday villa, and those like the OP importing ‘expensive’ items from the EU.

I’m sure it’s a bit shit for them. But 🤷‍♀️

Haydugee · 29/03/2021 19:45

I’ll accept a slow clap for your tribulations in importing fancy foreign vases.

If you’ll accept a riotous round of applause for the British vaccination programme.

(I know which one I’d rather have!)

Pranct · 29/03/2021 19:46

Agree OP, only order from UK, insular thinking or what!
I have been trying to send some Easter gifts to friends who live overseas, and guess what, none of the UK companies I’ve looked at online are able to ship abroad at present!

SpanielSprint · 29/03/2021 19:46

The fact that this is your biggest issue regarding Brexit proves you do not live in the real world (I’m a remainer)

adeleh · 29/03/2021 19:47

YANBU.
Sorry you’ve had some spiteful responses.
And v depressed that some still believe the nonsense about us only being to vaccinate because of Brexit,

Unsure33 · 29/03/2021 19:48

If you are a business and it is vat you can claim it back . We have only seen small admin charges for processing the paperwork .

I did not vote for brexit and I am not particularly happy with the extra time spent on paperwork , but because it has happened alongside a pandemic I am just thinking we are where we are so let’s give it a year to see what happens.

tangerinelollipop · 29/03/2021 19:48

Epic!!! Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/03/2021 19:50

I was just about to spend 2/3 my mortgage on a vase too but now I’m having second thoughts.

Chloemol · 29/03/2021 19:50

Well if you were the poster who posted about the artwork you know there is a charge now, so why are you whinging in here again?

Just shut up

gamerchick · 29/03/2021 19:52

@ThroughThickAndThin01

Are you going to create a post every time you order something? 🤔
Have to outrage somewhere. Grin You knew this OP. Just pay the invoice and learn your lessons.
Itsalonghaul · 29/03/2021 19:53

How detached from reality does one need to be?!
I am sure Harrods can help if you are really struggling, they offer a sourcing service - you know you could use a concierge service and let them take the strain? Or given how much stress you under why not just wait until you can fly back in person, and hand pick your vase, perhaps if you organise a private jet you will increase your chances of the darling vase arriving home in one piece! Solutions baby! Solutions -

tangerinelollipop · 29/03/2021 19:53

This country has had it as far as I’m concerned. We’re going backwards to nowhere

Well, OP, you are not doing so badly in 'this country' after all if you can still afford £450 on Murano glass ...

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 29/03/2021 19:54

Slow clap for you for ordering it @alaia3

alaia3 · 29/03/2021 19:54

When it catches up with some people on here (which it will in one way or another), the penny might drop.

But for now, rather than sticking with the actual topic that rip-off Britain just got worse, let’s just retort with ‘vaccines.’ Yes that’s works. Confused. Nothing like answering fact with other, totally unrelated topics.

OP posts:
Thunderpunt · 29/03/2021 19:54

You again? The artwork from Russia?
Why not fucking move to France or somewhere so you don't have to pay all these import taxes and keep posting about it in MN.
