SLOW CLAP FOR BREXITEERS (again).

I posted a while back about a ridiculous customs charge I had to pay due to the wonder that is Brexit.

So now, it’s a special birthday of a relative who has had a hard time recently. I ordered her a certain type of Murano glass vase (she collects these) and, hardly surprisingly, it comes from Italy where it is made. No problem as it’s free and fast delivery with this company.

Anyway, the vase didn’t arrive. Checked on UPS and hey presto - a customs charge of £170 for a vase that cost £450. This is “due to the inconvenience that is Brexit” that’s how it translates on the Italian tracking page).

So, it seems we can no longer order anything from Europe for to the genius of those who voted Brexit! Has anything more idiotic ever taken place in British history? Maybe reality will finally hit them at the same time as the customs charges hit?

😂

Why do people say 'innit' when trying to mock brexiteers?

Anyway, now you've had your petulant little foot stamp, do you feel better op?? I do hope so, innit.

adeleh · 29/03/2021 19:57

I have never seen this sort of attack on here on people who spend this sort of money on a holiday or a mountain bike. And there are quite a few threads about both. Don’t know why art attracts such bile.

Itsalonghaul · 29/03/2021 19:57

Ah of course, it is our fault because we haven't got around to ordering our Murano glass vases just yet! Naughty us for being so busy dealing with the small problem of the pandemic when we could actually be ordering cut glass. We can slow clap together.

Who else is feeling sorry for the poor chap on the receiving end of op's tantrum?

LadyLolaRuben · 29/03/2021 19:57

If you can afford the price of the vase, you can afford the customs charge. Can't believe this post when there are people using food banks and struggling to make ends meet

alaia3 · 29/03/2021 19:57

Because of course, nobody on here has anything in their homes “from abroad” and nobody has anything in their homes worth over £135. No not one of you.

So you’ll all be fine and anyway... ‘vaccines.’

@fretnot

To think this is only going to affect high end items is pretty blinkered
It also affects gifts sent from family or friends who live overseas.
TheJerkStore · 29/03/2021 19:58

It should make no difference - free delivery from Europe used to mean just that. No more. And people voted for this!

How outrageous that the average person earning an average wage didn't factor in how they'd import their £450 vases when they were voting. What a massive oversight......

Libraryghost · 29/03/2021 19:58

Sorry that’s bollocks. Customs is part of my job and I deal daily with Italian suppliers. I don’t know what dodgy website you have ordered off but this is utter rubbish. Why would you order murano glass direct from Italy anyway? You would order it from a British supplier who imports for you surely? Methinks you are talking shite ...

Howtomakeevery1 · 29/03/2021 19:58

If it’s not about the amount then pay the customs charge, your relative gets their vase and we the tax payer get more funds to help get back on our feet. I’m a passionate remainer but whinging isn’t going to change anything

sotiredofthislonelylife · 29/03/2021 19:58

@rwalker

Forget artwork and vase order some glasses (from the uk ) then you can read up on all the info that CLEARLY states you would have to pay this .
🤣🤣🤣
GreenSlide · 29/03/2021 19:58

@stairway

Buy British
I live in Northern Ireland and I can't even do that. So many shops based in the mainland won't deliver to us.
Itsalonghaul · 29/03/2021 19:59

I am feeling like you are channelling Veronica from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this evening op!

Maldives2006 · 29/03/2021 19:59

@mygenericusername

Ok, which U.K. companies sell one off blown glass vases!!

smigg · 29/03/2021 19:59

I mean it's annoying but you surely knew it would happen plus I don't think the average person will be too bothered about your strife re an expensive glass vase.

Are we going to be treated to one of these threads every four weeks or so?

The average person doesn't tend to import their furniture from abroad. We make a real effort to buy British and always have but if we can't we would use a British based supplier.
Itsalonghaul · 29/03/2021 20:00

It does make a rather nice change from the endless covid threads though!

YoniAndGuy · 29/03/2021 20:01

If only she collected Toby jugs

Viviennemary · 29/03/2021 20:01

I would always check id any tax was due after Brexit. It has been well publicised.

Kolo · 29/03/2021 20:01

FuzzyPuffling · 29/03/2021 20:01

@YawnyOwl

I'd vote Brexit all over again just to annoy you and your silly vase, OP. How's that Grin
This made me laugh!
Itsalonghaul · 29/03/2021 20:02

I think Italian coat saga should come next... if I can make a little request perhaps?
