SLOW CLAP FOR BREXITEERS (again).

I posted a while back about a ridiculous customs charge I had to pay due to the wonder that is Brexit.

So now, it’s a special birthday of a relative who has had a hard time recently. I ordered her a certain type of Murano glass vase (she collects these) and, hardly surprisingly, it comes from Italy where it is made. No problem as it’s free and fast delivery with this company.

Anyway, the vase didn’t arrive. Checked on UPS and hey presto - a customs charge of £170 for a vase that cost £450. This is “due to the inconvenience that is Brexit” that’s how it translates on the Italian tracking page).

So, it seems we can no longer order anything from Europe for to the genius of those who voted Brexit! Has anything more idiotic ever taken place in British history? Maybe reality will finally hit them at the same time as the customs charges hit?

I’m not even getting into a moronic debate about “buy it here.”

It should make no difference - free delivery from Europe used to mean just that. No more. And people voted for this!

I'd vote Brexit all over again just to annoy you and your silly vase, OP. How's that Grin

raincamepouringdown · 29/03/2021 19:15

@Markies

Bet you’ll be happy to get your vaccine before the majority of the EU though...
Please. Boris literally lucks into one good choice during his administration. We'll get through Covid. Brexit will be a long march down down down economically.
Druidlookingidiot · 29/03/2021 19:15

Oh well, look on the bright side, at least we have a decent vaccination rollout.

“In my life I have only ordered one thing from abroad and that was from the US”

Yes because that’s totally normal, isn’t it.

@Aposterhasnoname

Are you the poster with the £3000 artwork?
I would check the facts, sadly UPS has got woeful reputation of getting charges totally wrong, Check TRUSTPILOT - worse courier in UK out of 451, all 1 star - lowest rated company in UK. They scammed me and my customer. I sent an item to USA, value no more than £300.00 fee to send £49 They tried to charge customer $1700 in DUTY .. check their facebook page, they are woeful and blaming Brexit, Pandemic etc for their incompetence -

Brexit is done, and exporter and importers are slowly adjusting, So i would CLAP the 17.4 million who ensured we are out of a corrupt and declining EU.

We are seeing how much mess EU can create with the Vaccines ...

DoubleTweenQueen · 29/03/2021 19:16

Yanbu. Brexit is a shit waste of time and energy.

coogee · 29/03/2021 19:17

Did you pay Italian VAT on the vase?

alaia3 · 29/03/2021 19:18

This country has had it as far as I’m concerned. We’re going backwards to nowhere.

OP posts:
Theunamedcat · 29/03/2021 19:18

You know you can buy some of the glass in the UK you don't NEED to buy it directly from Italy

Your money to waste

canigooutyet · 29/03/2021 19:20

Didn’t it occur to you that once we joined free delivery from Europe would be a thing of the past and buying would involve the same costs as other countries? 😂

Isn’t a part of the Europe vaccine issue because they were too tight to pay? Never mind all the arguments they were having amongst themselves and public tantrums trying to blame the U.K. for the shipment that wasn’t even heading to us?

DuckonaBike · 29/03/2021 19:21

YANBU, obviously OP. This is so frustrating for those of us who knew all along that Brexit would cause big problems. And problems with imports are nothing to the problems with exports.

alaia3 · 29/03/2021 19:22

“You know you can buy some of the glass in the UK you don't NEED to buy it directly from Italy “

Really???? Oh thanks, must have missed that. Next time I’ll just go to John Lewis. Or buy the closest thing that’s not exactly what I want but never mind that as it’s “British” innit?

OP posts:
Notnt · 29/03/2021 19:22

YANBU, Brexit was an extremely bad decision. Unfortunately all of us have to live with the consequences, which sucks.

I don't know why you're getting a hard time about spending money on a vase. I think paying anything over £15 to get your hair done is a silly waste of money, but it doesn't upset me if others have it done. I'd rather have a valuable vase than spend the money on branded clothes and make up, for example.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 29/03/2021 19:22

@alaia3

“I've never ordered anything online that's needed to be shipped from overseas - too expensive.”

Er no, it was free delivery otherwise.

But it wasn't free, because you knew you'd have to pay the customs charges.

Did you learn nothing from your last thread on the same subject? Or are we going to be treated to a thread like this every time you order from overseas?!

TopTabby · 29/03/2021 19:23

Oh dear you sound a bit stressed.
Brexit has happened whether we like it or not, this is the reality.
Getting worked up & ranting on here about charges for very expensive items purchased from abroad isn't really helping you is it?
You've made your point, until next time you don't check....

DoubleTweenQueen · 29/03/2021 19:23

@canigooutyet The issue is with AZ and differences in contract specs.

beginningoftheend · 29/03/2021 19:23

Has anything more idiotic ever taken place in British history?

Brexit was genuinely an idiotic move, I can't get over what has happened to British food producers/exporters Sad

1Morewineplease · 29/03/2021 19:23

But Brexit means exactly this!!!
We can no longer trade freely with Europe.
End of.
Why should anyone think " but I only wanted to order a ridiculously expensive piece of red glass for someone and receive it for almost free?"

B33Fr33 · 29/03/2021 19:24

Oh my god how funny!
There are actual real people who think the vaccine negotiation would have been different inside the EU for the UK. I really thought it was just cartoonists taking artistic licence.

Thanks.

I'll be laughing all week that the propoganda machine is still spoon feeding successfully.

nellly · 29/03/2021 19:24

I'd vote Brexit all over again just to annoy you and your silly vase, OP. How's that

I didn't vote for it the first time but this poster makes me wish I had Grin

DoubleTweenQueen · 29/03/2021 19:25

The point being, we have lost a great deal of freedom and convenience in our dealings with the EU.

CloudFormations · 29/03/2021 19:25

Buy British

British mutant glass...?

CloudFormations · 29/03/2021 19:26

Murano! What an excellent typo Grin
