Westministenders: Unilateral Ignoring of WHO rules

Where we are:

On 1st January the EU started to apply checks on all goods from the UK coming into the Union.

However the UK decided to take a slower route to this, and planned that on the 1st April the UK we would be carrying out Sanitary & Phytosanitary paperwork for animal and plant EU imports like meat and eggs.

Then on 1 July we'd implement a full customs check on all goods arriving into the UK from EU member states.

Obviously we've struggled with exports as we weren't ready for this and its fucked business. But ultimately the import side of things has yet to hit the shit fan still.

It sounds like there is likely to be issues with imports of food in particular, so there is talk of delaying our plan of checks until later in the day. There is concern that the reopening of pubs and restuarants which will up demands of imports occuring at the same time as checks are put in place is likely to be 'problematic'.

Remember we get 2/3 of fruit, veg and cheese from the EU. And half our wine. And to date these largely have only been affected by haulage issues NOT UK customs issues...

You might want to keep that in mind.

the telling report will be the Hamilton independent report into whether she did break the ministerial code

Keir Starmer speaking on LBC this morning - Nicola Sturgeon must go if she has broken the ministerial code/misled parliament. He also confirmed that we don't want to rejoin the EU.

Peregrina · 22/03/2021 12:54

Well, thanks Clavinova - this helps to prove that Starmer is out of touch. Why though doesn't he attack the Tories who break the ministerial code - and as for We rejoining the EU . How does he know? Let's have a referendum.

Clavinova · 22/03/2021 13:19

Their press briefings already look a bit stupid with 4 flags on display, where one would be perfectly adequate. Will we mandate them in each classroom next, and have a pledge of allegiance?

Sep 2019 -
French children returning to school this week after the summer break may notice a change in their classrooms.

From Monday (September 2), all classrooms in the country are required to display both the French and European Union flags. Supporters describe it as “an important step forward” for French education, but the move is not without criticism.

The national motto “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” must also appear, along with the words from the national anthem “La Marseillaise”.

The “tricolore” flag is already hung outside school and other public buildings in France. From now on its symbol, along with that of the EU's 12 gold stars, will have to appear in all school classrooms – both public and private – but not in universities.

So if France is mandating the flag in schoolrooms, shouldn't your argument be that we should NOT do it Clavinova - it's not English, is it, it's what the Frogs do!

mrslaughan · 22/03/2021 13:29

I don't know who is advising Starmer - but this is why they are so's so wrong....
Lockdown/Covid is a wonderful distraction- but eventually we will come out of this , other countries economies will pull away in terms of recovery and the UK's will be decimated.

To me as a swede, the swedish flag represents summer, picnics, kids with flowers in their hair and små grodorna.

To me as a brit, the british flag represents imperialism. oppression, war and the BNP.

The Swedish flag says 'come and join us, we have snapps'. The British flag says 'fuck off, we're better than you'.

FatCatThinCat · 22/03/2021 13:37
  • we also have schnapps

I don't object to flags - you do - I was just pointing out the hypocrisy on here. You wouldn't mind your children/grandchildren having the Tricolore (insert relevant European flag) in full view every day - it's just the Union Jack you object to?

JustAnotherPoster00 · 22/03/2021 13:59

Urgh Im going to bite

As much as you would like to see the butchers apron draped everywhere C&P the other parts of this abusive marriage that we call a union not so much

PawFives · 22/03/2021 14:02

God I’m so sick of flags, haven’t heard so much about the Union Jack since Cool Britannia (remember that?). Now it’s all arguments about who has the most or biggest flag in the background, flying flags everyday (why?) and Daily Mail outrage about BBC presenters ‘disrespecting our flag’! Even worse it looks from Twitter like the bloody ‘would you press the nuclear button’ issue is back - FFS

Peregrina · 22/03/2021 14:05

I personally have only objected to the overkill of flags - one being sufficient, and as far as Government buildings are concerned, flown when a special occasion is being commemorated. If it's every day it becomes part of the furniture and tends to lose meaning - which actually is what Johnson and Co have already done with their overkill of flags.

You ducked the issue again Clavinova - you hate the EU, so with EU countries displaying flags ought automatically to mean that we didn't NEED to do that - because We Are Different and Special.

Peregrina · 22/03/2021 14:11

Now it’s all arguments about who has the most or biggest flag in the background, flying flags everyday (why?) and Daily Mail outrage about BBC presenters ‘disrespecting our flag’!

It's like the Poppy fascism which is part of what is now Remembrance month. I recall the absurd situation on the Apprentice Spin off, You have been Fired, where every person in the studio was sporting a poppy. Yet normally poppies were worn on outdoor clothing, not indoors. This to my mind totally devalued it as a commemoration for lost lives during war - it should be something that a person chose to wear consciously - not because the right wing Tories have tantrums.

I wonder if when cinemas and theatres re-open they will bring back the National Anthem at the end of performances? They scrapped it as I recall because everyone began to rush for the door before the anthem came on.

Peregrina · 22/03/2021 14:14

Can't help but think disrespectfully that this is all to prove which of them has the biggest willy. Why does Johnson need to prove that? We already know that he has at least six children, but probably more. Wasn't that proof enough that his willy was in working order?

Sostenueto · 22/03/2021 14:18

Omg! The only time I display ( or wave) our flag is when the Olympics are on which I love. I couldn't care less who, where or what country displays their flags.
As far as the Tory politicians displaying flags we all know they couldn't give a shit about this country only what they can make out of it. But I have more important things to worry about then flags in general like the depletion of our army , our increase in nuclear weapons, more rent a mobs around the country and the prospect of a third wave once country opens up especially foreign travel. Fuck whose waving various flags.

FatCatThinCat · 22/03/2021 14:20

@Peregrina Did you really have to go there? There isn't enough brain bleach in the world to remove the imagery of that last comment of yours from my head.

Clavinova · 22/03/2021 14:24

Peregrina

I don't hate the EU - I dislike the institution and one or two individuals have annoyed me - I certainly don't hate individual EU countries or their flags.

It was you who posted;
Will we mandate them in each classroom next, and have a pledge of allegiance?

Hopefully your children/grandchildren didn't relocate to France - you didn't specify which country they moved to. Grin

Peregrina · 22/03/2021 14:28

This is a question though: Will we have a pledge of Allegiance, like the Americans - which are a Republic. Does one need a pledge of allegiance in a monarchy, when the residents of the country are Subjects?

It sounds to me as though Johnson has gone and got his knickers in a twist over this issue.

Immigrants have to pledge loyalty to the Queen when naturalised.
Its only a matter of time till you locals have to as well Grin

DGRossetti · 22/03/2021 15:33

I have no problems pledging loyalty to my country - whatever that means. Beyond that Queen Liz can go fuck herself sideways before I pledge allegiance to any crown.

FatCatThinCat · 22/03/2021 16:08

I always feel torn on the allegiance to the crown thing. I want the UK to be a monarchy as the Queen is preferably as a head of state than President De Piffle would be (just the thought gives me nightmares). But at the same time I could never accept the Queen as a superior who needs to be bowed/curtsied to. Which is probably why she never invites me round for tea.

DGRossetti · 22/03/2021 16:26

Fuck the Monarchy. I refuse to accept that anyone is more equal than my child. Fuck you. Fuck you again. And then fuck you some more, if that's what you're telling me.

As we've seen with President Trump - you can get rid of ....

God save the queen ? Our fascist regime indeed.

Now "I vow to thee my country" - cringeworthy as it may sound - is less problematic. As long as we all remember we are all here by accident of birth.

FatCatThinCat · 22/03/2021 16:30

No that's not what I was telling you at all. What a horrible and aggressive way to respond to me. Totally uncalled for.

Peregrina · 22/03/2021 16:32

Which is probably why she never invites me round for tea.

But has the King of Sweden invited you round? Now the Dutch king was a bit more down to earth and used to be a part time pilot with KLM, we might have found ourselves hob nobbing with him as he walked through Schiphol.

yellowspanner · 22/03/2021 16:35

The Union flag is not about Willy waving. Lots of countries worldwide fly their flag on government and council buildings.
It's not about "think deeper".
It's the national flag and we should show it and be proud of it.
I am proud of our country and happy to see the flag reflect our national pride.

Peregrina...in case you didn't notice Boris Johnson is our elected PM. He is not a dictator.
But please keep on ranting about our government and Boris because it keeps me amused on a day basis.
