Westminstenders: Move Your Business To The EU

RedToothBrush · 24/01/2021 14:46

The government is advising people to move their businesses to the EU to avoid UK taxation and red tape.

Why would you do this?

For the interests of the uk?

Or is it about power WITHIN the uk?

I sometimes fantasize about the Scottish and WM PMs swapping for a day. Just for the Twitter stream, alone.

By the looks of it, we're the only island in the top 50.

And 23 out of the 27 European Union member states are in your top 50 as well.

Of course the mantra for Brexit is the mantra for Scottish independence.

Germany to recommend that the AZ vaccine not be used in over 65s (we don't know about EMA yet, this is their national vaccine advisory authority's advice).

Lack of data seems to be the concern.

The EUs lagging in vaccine rollout does of course mean that it's the UK that's getting the dodgy stuff ... or so anti vaxxers will claim.

How many of them have no borders with other countries?

Clearly a major risk, needs careful communication from all parties.

FWIW I don't necessarily think this means the U.K. is wrong. It means it's a complex question in which medical ethics have to be considered alongside scientific evidence. But U.K. has clearly taken a calculated risk here (absence of evidence is not evidence of absence blah blah).

DUP ? TUV surely ?

Sinn Fein must be pissing themselves at Unionists infighting.

Also according the German figures I've just seen on twitter the calculated efficacy for the AZ in >65 was not 8% but 6% - but the figure is useless due to it being based on two data points. I don't think I've ever seen a wider confidence interval quoted in a set of clinical trial results.

Mistigri · 28/01/2021 13:40

TL;DR we are all in trouble

That puts it in the category of anecdote, not data. Poor that its being used in the news.

But they do appear to be doing well with the vaccination programme,
Hence the issues concerning supply with the EU.

Mistigri · 28/01/2021 14:01

Poor that its being used in the news.

I took those numbers from a screenshot of the German statistical analysis of the trial results.

It's a mess.

No doubt we should have stopped free movement of people from the EU on 31 January 2020 - oh wait...

Sorry, why? Data based on two points isn't reliable... Is there more being said elsewhere?

Mistigri · 28/01/2021 14:17

Honey because having national health agencies taking different positions needs careful communication to avoid increasing vaccine hesitancy. And let's face it, careful communication isn't something that this U.K. government is very adept at.

We should know soon whether the AZ vaccine is actually effective in the over 65 group, because the U.K. is effectively conducting a large clinical trial on it. If it turns out to be effective, great (but it doesn't necessarily undo any damage to vaccine uptake). If it turns out to be ineffective, or significantly less effective than Moderna or Pfizer, then not just the U.K. but the world more generally has a problem. (The AZ vaccine is cheap and easy to distribute because it doesn't require a complex cold chain = impt for less wealthy countries).

John Redwood slowly realising what he's done. Not sure it's quite sinking in though...

The U.K. needs to intervene urgently to free the flow of goods between GB and Northern Ireland. The U.K. needs to uphold the U.K. single market for all users.

The wine importer (mentioned on here a few days ago) was interviewed as well. When asked if his company would still be here next year he confidently replied it would...

Could they tell me who they fancy for the 1.50 at Cheltenham this Saturday?

Don't pick the top weight as the going (assuming Cheltenham passes an inspection) will be heavy. CD winner, going ok, won Jan last yr - Oldgrangewood e/w Grin

Yes, we probably should have done. And could have done.

But no, your precious Johnson would rather spread Covid around with gay abandon...

HoneysuckIejasmine · 28/01/2021 14:23

Ah ok, I panicked that you meant that the German conclusion was correct and all this vaccine rollout is a waste of time. may still be the case but for now I'll remain hopefull

Mum had her AZ vaccine on Tuesday (she's in 60s, but volunteers at a hospice so got offered as a care worker priority) and my CEV gets his on Friday. I assume his will be AZ too.

But on the phone today she said that she feels the biggest barrier now will be getting people to agree to receive the vaccine, which goes with your observations too.

I'm afraid Darwin will have his way with some, and we have to hope they don't take too many people with them when they succumb. Sad
