Happy New Year all ❤️

2020 truly was the year from hell...
Am glad to kick its arse out the door 🙌

Starting the new year with hope & optimism 😍

Things are def looking up chez Brandy - I've got the dates scheduled in court for divorce endgame (after 5.5 years & nearly £10k paid so far in solicitors fees 😩); my youngest (15) is making positive steps to come through what has been a really dark year for him & my eldest (18) has just been offered a new, better paid job & should be getting surgery soon which was delayed for the last year 🙌🙌🙌

And the vaccine is incoming!

2021 is where it's at! 😍😂

Was good to catch up with old friends & new on this thread xx

Wishing everyone love, strength & happiness for the future 🥂❤️

(Way too much personal info in this post, but I'll likely namechange & take another MN hiatus when this thread ends, so who gives a fuck?! 🤷🏻‍♀️ 😂)

Cheers! 🍾🥂 🇬🇧 Wine

I think the only thing that will make BJ resign is money. He could earn so way more elsewhere (and did), and may need to.

I think though that the next few years are the fun, creative part and he will want to be part of that transformation having got the more tedious parts over with. It's certainly what his skill set is more suited to, he wasn't built for pandemic leadership for sure. So I think his position is very secure if only he wants to keep the job.

bellinisurge · 01/01/2021 12:58

He wasn't voted in by the electorate. He is Pm at the whim of his party. And he knows it. As should you if you know anything about our electoral system. He'll be doing the Gordon Brown walk of shame soon enough.

Roundlampshade · 01/01/2021 13:02

Yup, I reckon before the February half term. The Russians have no further use for him now.

Otellie · 01/01/2021 13:11

He's already said he may go this year after getting brexit done, so I doubt it will be a walk of shame.

BrandySours · 01/01/2021 13:16

Was looking back over the last week at news reports from this time last year - a couple of reports about an odd pneumonia-type virus which had affected a handful of people in Wuhan, but no indication of human-to-human transmission...

How QUICKLY things ramped up & changed was gob-smacking
It's truly been a blindsiding smack in the gut to the whole world...

The comms were the worst thing about this govt imo, and the incessant leaking & crappy 'journalism' just compounded everything

With the vaccine rolling out across the world, things should (hopefully) be much better by summer - and by next Xmas I'd hope that we're pretty much back to 'normal' 🤞🤞

By the time of the next GE, I honestly don't think Covid will be much of a factor 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's what Boris does from now on which could make or break him

And if he's successful, then his entry in history will be that he delivered Brexit, steered the country through a pandemic (whilst coming through the virus himself) and being at the vanguard of vaccination in the world

As to the next GE...?
Labour are still floundering, and doing everything they can to alienate their old core vote - still in thrall to identity ideology.
If they don't break those shackles then there's no hope for them imo 🤷🏻‍♀️

Don't know if Boris will fight the next GE or not, but if he steps down then I'd like to see Liz, Rishi or Priti as next leader (in that order)
Unpopular opinion I know 😂
But I like all 3 of them a lot
(Also got my eye on Kemi Badenoch, but she's not well known enough yet. I'd like to see her promoted soon & made more visible)

The SDP are definitely a party to watch as well I think
If they can increase their profile & reach then they could easily replace Labour as the main opposition to Tory party

Bellini, did I miss something or wasn't Boris elected with a stocking majority in December 2019?
He most certainly was voted in by the electorate.
Keep up.

Brandy, I am signing out now.
Thank you to all who joined us in the Alms and posted positively. Thanks for the celebrations, comments, encouragement and memes.
Hope 2021 really does turn out better for you all Brandy.
Happy Brexit Day.

Brandy, I am signing out now.

Not permanently I hope Yellow?

bellinisurge · 01/01/2021 13:36

@yellowspanner - that's not how it works. I wonder what else you don't know about how our electoral system works. And, in particular, how the Tories work.
For what it's worth there is no one in the current cabinet who could hack it as leader. They are all utterly incompetent as evidenced daily or, like Gove (who is at least intelligent, utterly unsuited for national leadership.
The Tories least worst option is Hunt. At least he wouldn't be undone on a weekly basis against Starmer who is , although utterly competent, a bit short on charisma.

BelleHathor · 01/01/2021 13:52

Good luck Yellow 👍 and you are correct, Boris was duly selected by the Conservative party (as per their constitution) over Hunt and romped to a stomping victory in December last year in the general election.

Roundlampshade · 01/01/2021 13:54

The Tories don’t have anyone competent left because they sacked all the decent politicians in 2019. We are left with the indecent ones.

bellinisurge · 01/01/2021 14:21

@BelleHathor , Johnson led the party that one. He wasn't on the ballot paper except in his own constituency.

bellinisurge · 01/01/2021 14:22

Ha ha won not one

SouthDownsLass · 01/01/2021 14:23

@bellinisurge

The difference is that Gordon Brown lost the only election he fought. BJ won his, massively. Why on earth would they want to get rid of him?
DoubleTweenQueen · 01/01/2021 14:24

This isn't a Conservative government, though. It's funny (!) but many of those who are up in arms about Brexit are traditional Conservative supporters. This lot in the current executive are an embarrassing lot of self-serving middle-managers, at best.

SouthDownsLass · 01/01/2021 14:24

You're forgetting Rishi, surely? I reckon he could win an election.

SouthDownsLass · 01/01/2021 14:25

I'd rather vote for Sunak than the dreadful Hunt.

SouthDownsLass · 01/01/2021 14:27

Anyway, Happy New Era!!! Grin

Roundlampshade · 01/01/2021 14:34

I will never forget “the culture Secretary, Jeremy cxxx” 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yes potentially good choices. I like them too.

bellinisurge · 01/01/2021 14:53

I'd love them to lead the Tories. They are thick as pig shit.

Otellie · 01/01/2021 15:08

Oh Bellinisurge, your bitterness and inability to move on from this is so sad to witness. Still I guess your lonely interactions here will be a record for you to look back on in the future. Maybe you'll find peace in yourself one day eh.

Andante57 · 01/01/2021 15:13

Bellini there’s a link on another Brexit thread to the Rejoin the EU campaign. Why not get involved in that as it would be an outlet for your anger which I don’t think is going to be helped by non stop posting on mumsnet.

Aria11 · 01/01/2021 15:18

Otellie, Bellini is not on her own here. There are plenty of people that share her views, more than you can think of. It's your lot now that is alone, I wonder why.
