swear words and memes from those that clearly lack the capacity for anything else

🙄
Get over yourself cupcake
I have BOUNDLESS capacity, for many things

Do not mistake my refusal to engage with tedious re-hashing of the same old, regurgitated tropes & DEMANDS FOR ANSWERS! as being anything other than just that 🤷🏻‍♀️

I do not engage with it, because I do not want to

I did - for a long, long time
I engaged in good faith from pre-ref onwards
But it just got too bloody wearying in the end
I can only put up with so much abuse, wilful disingenuousness & deliberate twisting of words to suit another's narrative

Better people than me still make the effort & try, and I applaud them for their patience & tenacity
But me? I'm done with it all now 🤷🏻‍♀️

In under 22 hours, my vote of 2016 will finally be delivered upon - and shall raise a glass to the future 🥂

@Jason118

I watch this thread (and previous incarnations) to get an understanding of what benefits we can look forward to and other than features of the deal (reduced ECJ oversight, a few more fish, being able to do our own trade deals), no one has shown me actual benefits. It's an example of how poor salesmen operate, continually selling features but ignoring the things that really matter, the benefits. Disappointing.
Why would you watch these threads to try & glean those answers??

It was very clearly laid out waaay back in 2016 when these threads began that it was a 'pub thread'
A thread for banal chit-chat & a bit of a laugh amongst people with an interest in Brexit

It was initially intended to be a thread for all 'sides' - a sort of companion thread to the WM Arms ones
The WM Arms threads were always chock full of info & were very interesting & informative so it felt a bit rude & de-railing to just natter about stuff

As it turned out, the goading, trolling & nastiness was awful from the get-go
The threads quickly turned into the only place on MN where leave supporters could post anything pro-Brexit - where they had other people to stand with them during the frequent pile-ons & attacks

So the Brexit Arms pretty quickly became the de-facto 'Brexiter Thread' (although we always tried to welcome everyone, there was never a single, solitary thread which was not jumped on by Remain-extremists who just wanted to lash out & be angry/goady/nasty)

We even tried to move away from the Brexit Board after the GE last year, so as to get away from the vitriol we had to wade through on a daily basis
But we were followed & trolled there too 🤷🏻‍♀️

So we stopped posting

I left MN for most of this year & when I saw the news the other day about the deal being agreed, I thought 'why not? One last Brexit Arms thread to seal off the saga of Brexit for old time's sake'
I thought it would be nice to see if the old posters were still kicking around

How naive I am 🤷🏻‍♀️
I honestly thought we'd be left alone for this last thread
But sadly not
The DEMAND! for ANSWERS! goes on

Le yawn...

Up early, alas my days of loitering in pubs until the wee small hours are behind me. Totally agree that this space was set up as a pub thread, for chat and funny pictures. People seeking an in depth autopsy of brexit need to start their own threads.

However, having spent years abusing brexiteers, they sit on their threads stunned that we won't attend!
I'll be in my usual chair, with a coffee and a paper.

lyinginthegutterstaringatstars · 31/12/2020 06:57

Not much to do for you all besides sitting in a corner admiring that shiny blue passport.
No where to travel to

LurkingLeaver · 31/12/2020 07:07

What on earth are you on about Grin, we have left a trade club, not left the planet! Of course we can still travel, pandemic aside.

TheSultanofPingu · 31/12/2020 07:41

It's good to see the return of the Brexit Arms after all these months.
Although I will never agree that leaving was a good result, I still found myself drawn to the Arms.
It was shut down under a cloud and the Politics Arms went the same way.

I enjoy the daft meme's as ridiculous as they are, but I really hope the offensive 'code words' don't make a comeback (I'm sure the regulars will know what I mean). They spoilt it I think.

Have a good day everyone.

Stilltalkstotrees · 31/12/2020 07:52

Surely, if one were looking for positives of Brexit, it's perfectly reasonable to look for them in a pro-Brexit thread. Why would we not be asking those who are pro-Brexit for their reasons? If we're all to get behind Brexit and pull together, it would stand to reason that we need to find the reasons to be cheerful.

As there are none posted on this thread (and none anywhere else that I've been able to find), I shall continue to believe we've made a foolish mistake. Enjoy your win. And happy new year.

LurkingLeaver · 31/12/2020 08:19

Surely, if one were looking for positives of Brexit, it's perfectly reasonable to look for them in a pro-Brexit thread

I'm pretty sure the Arms was opened as a welcome-to-all pub style thread, not a place for a forensic break down of the results of the vote. However, it has become an abusing ground for those seeking a captive audience of brexiteers to attack.

There have been "come and explain yourselves" threads opened by remainers, and those brexiteers who wanted to could go and have a crack at appeasing remainers on there but we stayed away for the most part because of the abuse.

If you really, honestly wanted to understand our position, your chance to allow us a space to honestly and openly talk has passed. I never post my honest thoughts because I know how they will be ridiculed.
You reap what you sow. You shut us up.

Stilltalkstotrees · 31/12/2020 08:22

I never post my honest thoughts because I know how they will be ridiculed.

A strange admission.

Thanks for the background - I shall leave you in peace.

Aria11 · 31/12/2020 08:24

BrandySours, the abuse so far has come from now, no one else. It's pretty obvious why that's the case.

Aria11 · 31/12/2020 08:29

From you, I meant. I don't care by the way about what you think. It's pretty irrelevant, as it is obvious that in real life you must be such a pleasant person.

AMRAFP · 31/12/2020 08:30

@Aria11

XingMing, re the way things that are discussed in this thread, I had naively hoped that there would be some ideas with which even those not supporting Brexit would be able to engage. What I have seen though in all the comments from Brexiteers here is quite shocking. It's either platitudes about the UK's superiority in research, the legal system etc. that are nothing more than stereotypical views with no evidence whatsoever or swear words and memes from those that clearly lack the capacity for anything else. Frankly speaking, it's depressing.
Yep! Exactly.
LurkingLeaver · 31/12/2020 08:30

"I never post my honest thoughts because I know how they will be ridiculed.

A strange admission"

I'm a very, very normal person. None of my opinions are extreme, and yet I won't share them because of the vile attitude of those who don't share them.
Just look at the way lefties talk about Tory voters, and people who read the daily mail. Both are the main party and newspaper in the country, but are apparently pure evil 🙄

Aria11 · 31/12/2020 08:39

LurkingLeaver so far it has been the other way around, I am afraid. Leavers comment on posts asking for evidence, not projections (their own words). When someone does that, they post memes, swear words or go on with platitudes and say that they are going to ask a couple of friends about it because they don't have a clue. It's so easy these days to claim you are the victim.

Jason118 · 31/12/2020 08:44

I obviously missed the point of the thread completely - apologies for any offence caused, just seeking enlightenment. I will continue my search elsewhere. Enjoy!

RedtreesRedtrees · 31/12/2020 08:47

“You reap what you sow. You shut us up.”

Unfortunately we didn’t and that’s why we’re in this mess!

LurkingLeaver · 31/12/2020 08:53

* Unfortunately we didn’t and that’s why we’re in this mess!

Wow. Maybe you should seek a country where democracy and freedom of speech aren't allowed??

bellinisurge · 31/12/2020 08:58

"The Brexit Arms became the only place where anyone even slightly right of centre could express an idea and work it out in public without being lashed by Momentum. "
So sweet, a poster still thinks that the only people who objected are Momentum supporters.😂😂😂😂

RedtreesRedtrees · 31/12/2020 08:58

Why would I move when things are going to be so amazing here thanks to us all taking back control? I’m sure looking forward to those sunny uplands.

MoodyMarshall · 31/12/2020 09:00

There's no shutting up Brexiters, that's been apparent since 1973.

I was once walking through my home town where a ' Save the Pound!' rally was taking place. Around 1999 I guess. I asked one of the ladies handing out leaflets what she objected to about a single currency, to which she replied, 'Them Germans doing what they always do.' That's why we're leaving the EU, because most ordinary people believe the UK is an exception to the rule, somehow.

RedtreesRedtrees · 31/12/2020 09:05

Hopefully for all of us Brexit is a roaring success. But Leavers will have it tough if it isn’t. It won’t be the politicians who take the blame, they’ll slink off / deny they ever promoted it. It’s ordinary leave voters who will take the brunt of it.

bellinisurge · 31/12/2020 09:08

Happy New Year Arms residents. I hope you are all the very first to feel the true effects of Brexit!Wine

Don't you get it, you were NOT meant to vote that way! 😉. You would think that after losing the referendum and 3 elections, they would look in the mirror and reflect..... But nope 🤔
yellowspanner · 31/12/2020 09:13

Jason, you say we don't say what the benefits are and specify 3. I have said many times over the last few years that being away from the ECJ is a benefit as far as I am concerned. As is having a points based immigration system, trade deals around the world and control of our coastal waters.
We can now spend our money how we like. And if you don't like the way our elected Govt. spend it we can vote to change the Govt.
And I don't like the flag, anthem and President of the EU. We joined a trading bloc, which changed.
I love the Brexit banter, memes and emojis. And I will continue to enjoy them.
This thread is lighthearted. It is not compulsory for anyone to read or join in.
And tonight I have a Brexit zoom party to go to. Champagne is on ice.
