Westminstenders: a feature of the system not a bug

RedToothBrush · 25/11/2020 16:02

Tests on the new queuing system in Kent have revealed that lengthy tail backs are a feature not a bug.

We should get used to them because thats normal not the system malfunctioning, but the planned system working as designed.

Today we have found out that there's no money left. The economy is fucked. And tomorrow we will probably all be in T3 with the Isles of Wight, the tip of Cornwall and inner Westminster the only places left in T1.

Christmas has apparently been 'saved' though. Well if you are dumb and lacking in functional brain cells its 'saved'. Trade for Christmas is already thoroughly goosed and indoor family gatherings may come with a extra side of covid. The BBC have done an epic job of 'doommongering project fear' style graphics on this wonderful subject.

Tis the season to be jolly. Jolly fucked.

So Johnson saves the day, does he? I note that Polly Toynbee is predicting a Tory civil war. Bring it on is all I can say. I hope that Johnson and Cameron can go down in history as the people who destroyed the party.

ArrowsOfMistletoe · 08/12/2020 14:12

So basically the UK caved. I am so surprised. Someone pick me up, I've just fallen over. (pointythings here).

It was Gove, not Johnson, that was discussing the NI protocol so presumably he is hero of the day.

WorriedMutha · 08/12/2020 14:26

I read some weeks ago that Gove is very keen for a deal as he sees a chaotic hard Brexit as a gift horse to Nicola Sturgeon and the cause of nationalism which he loathes. Gove is more of a strategic thinker than Johnson in a Brexity headbanging way. Still we have to take comfort where we find it.

Peregrina · 08/12/2020 14:26

So who is going to stab whom in the back when the Tory party civil war starts in earnest? It's been rumbling on like a Cold war since about 1980...

Peregrina · 08/12/2020 14:31

I utterly loathe Gove for the damage he did to education, but I would be prepared to admit that he has been quite competent with some of the briefs he has held. He was in charge of the Ministry of Justice for a short while and was quite good in the post, I recall. Although there he took over from failing Grayling, so that wasn't difficult.

WorriedMutha · 08/12/2020 14:41

I can't stretch to giving any credit to Gove. As with all Tories and Brexiteers, it is only a matter of the degree of loathing I hold for them.

wewereliars · 08/12/2020 14:41

The only possible silver lining in this ongoing slow motion car crash, is the annihilation of the Tory party and their consignment to the dustbin of history.

The problem for the tories now, is that any replacement for Boris will have been cut from the same cloth. They've managed to oust all the palatable alternatives in their spiral decent into fascism.

Unlike the USSR of the 70s and 80s, the old guard look like they could last for decades.

One solution would be to fix the UKs broken democracy to be better representative, so that ERG headbanger types can stop hiding behind the skirts of conservatism like the scared little boys all right wing cunts are, and stand on their own platform of bile and hatred. They'd certainly pick up some seats and be able to continue pushing their crack cocaine of xenophobic elitism. But at least they'd be in the open and not scaring the horses.

But that's not going to happen unless we lose a war, and have some other power fix it for use. Much like we did for Germany after the war.

bellinisurge · 08/12/2020 14:43

Silver lining I can see is Irish reunification and Scottish independence. Created by the Tories.

DGRossetti · 08/12/2020 14:49

Does Gove think this is his time ?

What does Murdoch say ?

Goves antipathy to the GFA doesn't really make him besties with the new POTUS.

I can't help but remember that when the Tories faced an anti-EEC Labour party in the 1970s, they suddenly remembered how they'd always been at war fans of the EEC and wheeled out a very fetching leader to prove it ...

TheABC · 08/12/2020 14:51

Whilst I would love to see the annihilation of the Tory party, it's still got funding, support and another 3 years in power. I don't think they will collapse that easily.

4 years in power. With the UKs next general election coming just after the 2024 US presidential elections. Which I have already suggested is not something the Tories want. Although given the optics of overturning the FTPA, they might just have to deal with it.
Peregrina · 08/12/2020 15:01

....wheeled out a very fetching leader to prove it

Ted Heath fetching? You have got to be kidding!

ListeningQuietly · 08/12/2020 15:12

Colour me surprised
the IMB turned out to be a bad idea
Fishing will be next
bare bones deal here we come
IF Johnson can get the headbangers to support it by 4pm tomorrow
[fed up face]

Lest we forget. And "fetching" is a comparative - you had Harold Wilson on the other side.

Oh and Nige isn't sounding too happy..........................

When @MichaelGove
says there is a pragmatic agreement on Northern Ireland, and the EU are happy, then you know we are being walked all over.

Bless

Some world beating tech the UK has been quietly trialling. Here an aircraft carrier that doubles as a submarine.

Where's Raab to tell the world that only the British could have done this ? He's probably right.

Jason118 · 08/12/2020 16:31

I'm sure HMG will try to sell the IMB capitulation as an example of compromise and will expect something in return. I hope the EU give something really insignificant, like access to Macron cheese board twice a year on a Thursday afternoon.

pussycatinboots · 08/12/2020 16:35
