Westminstenders: a feature of the system not a bug

RedToothBrush · 25/11/2020 16:02

Tests on the new queuing system in Kent have revealed that lengthy tail backs are a feature not a bug.

We should get used to them because thats normal not the system malfunctioning, but the planned system working as designed.

Today we have found out that there's no money left. The economy is fucked. And tomorrow we will probably all be in T3 with the Isles of Wight, the tip of Cornwall and inner Westminster the only places left in T1.

Christmas has apparently been 'saved' though. Well if you are dumb and lacking in functional brain cells its 'saved'. Trade for Christmas is already thoroughly goosed and indoor family gatherings may come with a extra side of covid. The BBC have done an epic job of 'doommongering project fear' style graphics on this wonderful subject.

Tis the season to be jolly. Jolly fucked.

LQ I give you credit for drawing my attention to Private Eye. I see there’s mention of Sunak’s freeports on the first pages. That’s quietly gone under the radar of mainstream news.

Johnson and co are not in the least bit interested in keeping the red wall sweet, as far as I can tell. Maybe the MPs occasionally, but the people can just be lied to.

Mistigri · 07/12/2020 18:56

Johnson planning to go to Brussels in a last ditch attempt to sell capitulation as winning the war.

I think Macron's bad cop vignette probably helped things along nicely over the weekend. There has definitely been an "oh shit" moment leading to a semi-backdown over the internal markets bill.

I briefly saw something on DWs BBC page (she still reads them) about the UK offering to remove the troublesome bits of the IMB, if the EU "backs down" ?

Not quite sure that's how you do things. "give us what we want ....or we'll break the law".

veeeeh · 07/12/2020 19:11
@veeeeh , for what it's worth, I'm so fucking sorry I can't begin to express it.
Thank you, it is not your fault or UK's fault, it is the ERG ruling the roost really, and just walking over everything in their path to reach the Holy Grail.

Very much appreciate your comment. We are devastated here and don't know what to do. We did not decide to leave EU but will have to bear the consequences sadly.

And I know that a huge number of people in UK don't want anything to do with Brexit either. It is all so unnecessary really. Ireland is collateral damage sadly.

Thanks again.

Peregrina · 07/12/2020 19:25

We are awaiting a shipment of furniture- it ought to be here this week, but no sign yet.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 07/12/2020 20:07

TurquoiseBaubles - so sorry you are suffering because of the stupidity of 52% of UK voters.
Hardly anyone will be a winner out of Brexit.
I know nobody ever said life would be fair, but still.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 07/12/2020 20:11

veeeh - and you.
It's bad enough that they've fucked the UK. To fuck Ireland too shows how much they believe that the end justifies any means. Angry

OchonAgusOchonO · 07/12/2020 20:17

From an Irish perspective, at this stage my preference would be no deal. Yes, it will be crap but the UK will have to do a deal eventually so they'll presumably be back in 6 months or so and the deal will be a lot better for us at that stage. It will probably be better fit the UK too as it will presumably be closer alignment than your current shower of wankers want.

I don't think everyone in UK wants our little country to suffer with no deal. But it will sadly, and will cost us a lot. Dreadful situation really. I really thought that our relationship was repaired, not so.

Yep I am hoping there too.....

I am hoping that th EU will give him a way out, aka something to say they they have won and the EU capitulated when if it's nothing fo the sort.

So glad to have an Irish passport for freedom of movement now as an Irish passport holder. Thank God.

Sorry if that sounds bad, but a lot of UK people have Irish and other EU backgrounds too, but not sure about what the passport situation is for non Irish, forgive me. Someone will help I am sure.

I know about the CTA.

Italian passport holder here ...

Peregrina · 07/12/2020 21:32

I do wish I had the option of another passport, I would apply for one like a shot.

What really annoys me is the number of Leavers who have rushed to get EU passports. Where is the courage of their convictions?

Bet you are as happy as I am now. No matter what happens we will be ok EU wise and FOM anyway.

That is the question really. One thought for the gammons, another for their own lives. It is totally bizarre to me anyway.

The Tory sheeples have just voted to break International Law again
FFS
Labour and the other parties need to abstain entirely
so that the decision is solely down to the Tories

Be a rule maker
or a rule breaker Angry

Lonelycrab · 07/12/2020 22:41

Whoop whoop. Well this is looking like the point where we all actually fly off the cliff. Unless Carrie finds the handbrake and parachute switch.

PawFives · 07/12/2020 23:39

Does anyone else get that ‘oh just do it, just throw us off the cliff’ feeling even though you know a no deal Brexit will be so unbelievably bad for virtually everyone? Obviously I don’t want it to happen, but it probably will so spare us this last bit of theatrics. I think it’s a reaction to the past 4 and a half years of politics being treated by the press as some sort of soap opera rather than asking challenging questions and holding people to account, and I just don’t think I can take anymore of it.

wherearemychickens · 07/12/2020 23:46

I know what you mean - just wanting us to hit the actual wall of reality and have the crap shown up for what it is. I just worry that not enough people are paying attention and will believe the spin and the 'let's blame the EU for the mess we're in' that is almost certainly coming our way from people, who, let's face it, have absolutely no compunction about lying.

wherearemychickens · 07/12/2020 23:47

A big cathartic moment where we all see sense would be good. I think it's more likely that we get more horrible politics that gets more horrible - see 1930s Germany.

wherearemychickens · 07/12/2020 23:48

And the impacts of no deal are just awful to contemplate. The deal is going to be bad enough for so many :(

TurquoiseBaubles · 08/12/2020 00:40

I'm beginning to think that Ochan is right above, from an Irish point of view anyway. A no deal at this stage might be better because the shit will really hit the fan, and it will be obvious to everyone that sooner or later renegotiations will have to open up.

The type of deal that is possible at this stage is likely to be pretty bad, but may be not-quite-bad-enough so Boris can pretend everything is ok, and blame the EU for everything that isn't.
